Under 21 Championship

I thought we played some excellent football particularly in the first half when we played the quick ball in. We got a bit nervy, I thought, in the second half but overall a good result. Too often we took the ball into the tackle and lost it so for the next match I would like to see them letting the ball off a bit quicker to avoid this as a few of the Longford scores came from turnovers. I thought the ref gave a few harsh decissions against us as well particularly the time he blew up for overcarrying in the second half.
As a previous poster said this is a good Longford time and we'll hear more of them in the future.

Thats some record by the Cavan U21 in all seriousness, lets hope that they can convert this into their seniors. Ulster could really do with a strong Cavan senior team.

I would second that. Ulster has traditionally been the most competitive province & it would be great to see a strong Cavan team in the mix.

Well done Kildare , seriously good 21 team there maybe after you win it out you'll split Kildare in two so it gives everyone else a fair chance. Only joking well done again , maybe the sleeping giant of Gaelic football has finally awoken.

Can any of the Kildare lads tell us how many of the 2008 U21 All-Ireland Finalists moved up to Senior? 3 at most?

Did you mean Cavan the sleeping giants of Gaelic Football? Into our 4th Ulster U21 Final in a row winning the previous 2.So here's hoping for 3-in-a-row Ulster Titles. Add in an Ulster Minor Title in 2011 so things are looking up in Breffni. We now have to convert that into Senior!!!

Hugh McGrillen was on the bench for that team. Regular starter with the seniors since 2009. Eoghan O'Flaherty and Alan Smith would be the others.

Gary White would be on the panel this year but for his army commitments. Conor Brophy was on the panel a few years ago as was David Whyte and Ciarán Kelly. Declan Brennan started one or two championship games under McGeeney before moving to Derry.

Declan Brennan, Gary White, David Whyte, Eoin O'Flaherty and Alan Smith all played senior from that team. Hugh McGrillen was actually an unused substitute that year too.

Brennan has transferred to Derry but not on the panel. David Whyte had a few okay years but dropped off panel now. Chalky (Gary White) was going really this year but had to leave midway through league due to Army commitments. Other three are all still involved.

Off the top of I think around five played Kildare senior at some stage of another. Declan Brennan (gone to Derry), David Whyte (not on panel anymore), Gary White (away on Army Duty), Alan Smith and Eoin O Flaherty. Not sure about Conor Brophy.

I believe this team are a lot more balanced and at least 9 of those who featured last night have played senior as far as I know.

Can't let it go without saying well done to our lads last night. Overall we just about deserved it but we'll be hearing a lot more from some of those Longford lads. I was well impressed with their duracell bunny No. 6 (McCormack) and their full forwrd line would give any senior team trouble. We've a lot of work to do and last nights second half display won't be winning many more games.

Cheers lads! That's a good shot of players to be fair. 10 of our starting 15 that day went on to make appearances for the Seniors, and also one sub. Shane Enright, Killian Young, David Moran, Mike O' Donoghue, Kieran O' Leary, Johnny Buckley and Brian Looney are all on the current Senior Panel. Tommy Walsh in Oz obviously.

Didn't realise Johnny Buckley was on that team. I remember all the rest ok.

What about Cork-v-Tipp next week in Munster final?

Are both of these teams no hopers?

Vibe on this thread seems to indicate so.

The vast majority of posters on this site are from Leinster/Ulster and I think they tend to overrate their own sides while underrating sides from Connacht/Munster (unless it's Kerry).

Thanks Clondalkindub. Bye the way how is the Kildare man Jason Phillips who transferred to your club getting on?

I think Tipp will give Cork good game next Wed in Semple.

It's hard to predict outcome though as both sides just did what they had to do make it through their respective semifinals.

Cork will be favourites but don't think Tipp will shy away from them.

I'd be surprised if Cork win the All-Ireland, wasn't impressed by them v Kerry and were lucky enough in the end to win. That's a good Tipp team so they'll have their work cut out.

I think the 'vibe' has just been people from these provinces talking about trying to win their own provincial titles. If people aren't talking about Tipp, Cork, Galway or Roscommon it's because they haven't looked past their next opponents closer to home. That's what happens in Leinster/Ulster where you've to play 3 or 4 games just to get out of your province.

Lilywhite1 he's a beast of a man and very good player and sound, his only problem is his hammer keeps going ha. He's playing full forward for us kick it in anyway and he'll win it.

Hasn't Kildare played three games v Meath,Laois,Longford to reach the semi final the same as Galway if they win on Saturday. Cork will have to improve if they want to beat Tipp likewise with Donegal v Cavan.
