Have to agree with Liam on this one!

I wouldn't like to be in charge of picking the next team of the Millennium, if they added 20 years to that team now, how many players would lose out for the likes of Henry, DJ, Tommy Walsh, JJ Delaney, Joe C, Tony Browne, Kelly, Mullane etc

Hard to disagree with Liam also. If I was allowed to expand the back line, I would find a place for JJ in corner back (with Ollie Canning and Noel Hickey next to him) so that I could include Sean Og at wing back. Otherwise, it would be

Tommy Walsh, Ken McGrath, JJ Delaney

Benny if i was gonna add a langer to the team it would be Curran not Sean Og
Sean og was as much an icon as anything else
but Curran....what a hurler. Class personified.

Picking up on Bennys expansion to the full-back line, I would have to go for;

Micheal Kavanagh - Noel Hickey - Ollie Canning
Tommy Walsh - Ken McGrath - JJ Delaney

You can't argue with them KK lads having a lot of All Stars and things. But if I was picking my personal preference of who I'd pick if it was my team my half back line would be:

John Gardiner, Ken McGrath, Tony Browne

Sure I suppose a Liverpool fan would never admit Dixie Dean was a great .............;)

If we're looking at the full back line, my own area of dubious eh 'expertise' I'd have to have Brian Lohan patrolling the edge of the square. I don't think Ollie would've played all that many Championship games at corner back in the 90s? Muintir na Gaillimhe might know?

John Gardiner, Ken McGrath, Tony Browne. Can't believe some people are leaving Ken McGrath out.

The thoughts of picking this gives me a headache. Tommy Walsh, Michael Brick Walsh and JJ Delaney were probably my favourite growing up but its so hard to leave out Ken McGrath and Sean Óg. We have been blessed with the amount of skillful players in the last 10 years and not only in the half backline.

Faithfull I wouldn't like to be in charge of picking the team for the last ten years not to mind the team of the Millenmium.

For what it's worth, I've been watching intercounty hurling for about 42 years now and below is the best team i could pick

1: Skeehan. I know there are many greats over the last 15 years but I think he redefined the position and was way ahead of his time.
2: Whelahan. Out of position I know but he had to play and (although I can't believe it) he wouln't make half back line
3: Lohan. Best full back I've seen
4: Tyrell. I'm sure he will achieve a lot more but already I can't think of a better no 4
5: T. Walsh. Automatic.
6: T. Keady. Maybe I'm biased.
7: JJ Delaney. I think he is so under rated, would probably say best all round defender I've seen.
8: C. Carey. The only player I think on the team without an AI.
9: J. Cooney. I know he didn't play much of his inter county career here but it was his best position.
10: Shefflin. No need to comment.
11: John Troy. I could watch him hurl all day.
12: DJ. He was actually one of the last I picked.
13: JBM. The most natural hurler I've ever seen.
14: Joe McKenna or Ray Cummins
15: English. Although I also considered P. Fox.

Some team there only, but I would have Frank Cummins in one of those midfield spots. Hard as nails & a great hurler.

If you could forget Herny existed Johnny Dooley for number 10 !!!!!

Would you have JJ a better all round defender than Tommy Walsh?

My own opinion is that Tommy's the best I've ever seen, that's only the mid 90s mind.

JJ is awesome though, maybe he's a little more understated than Tommy who is maybe that bit more spectacular in his play sometimes which leads to his elevation above JJ?

I'm only in my very early 20's so the names like Keady, Cooney and English are all obviously legendary players, but ones that I have never had the pleasure to see playing. So keeping that in mind I will name a team that I have watched playing regularly and have played the bulk of their hurling from 2000 to the present day (The main reason DJ Carey isn't on it).

1. Cummins
2. Kavanagh
3. Hickey
4. Canning
5. Walsh
6. McGrath
7. JJ
8. Brick
9. O' Connor
10 Shanahan
11. Shefflin
12. Brennan
13. Canning
14. Kelly (Tipp)
15. Mullane

Yes, but your talking about the top two. I would rate JJ as an all round better defender, who is comfortable in any of the 6 defensive positions and I wouldn't worry about marking anybody. Tommy is probably a better hurler in some ways (has won all stars as a forward and midfielder as well) but if i had to pick the best defender i ever saw it'd be JJ

Yea hard to argue with walsh, mc grath, jj. In my opinion tommy is the greatest hurler i've ever seen, shefflin defitinately the best forward ive ever seen but tommy is so versatile, pure class!

Tommy Ken JJ.............I always loved Galways 567 of the 80s....... Pete Finnerty Tony Keady Gerry McInerney and with Sylvie behind them it was always fun to watch. Brian Hogan is unlucky to miss out....

The Best half back line ever........ Tommy Brian JJ have an average age of 31 this year. Some mileage up too......food for thought. But we all have to remember the old saying....there no substitute for class.

JJ Ken McGrath Tommy Walsh

That would be mine Ken McGrath one of the greatest hurlers never to win an All Ireland. the other two talk for themselves
