Karl Lacey - Footballer of the Year - Spat on??

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

TyroneTim - a slight misinterpretation of the facts - for the record...53 fouls.....31 frees to Donegal....not 31 fouls committed by Donegal. Also re the 13 bookings and 2 sendings off....the 2 sendings off made up 4 of those bookings.

The fact that Tyrone committed 31 fouls should call into question Joe McQuillans reluctance to brandish only 4 yellow cards to Tyrone... It also raises the issue of Tyrones fouls being more cynical in nature....enough to disrupt Donegal yet not serious enough to warrant yellow!

Lifford - your disputing foul count (I hope) the stats will come out but my interpretation was of fouls "For" but I could be wrong on that but surprosed we would have fouled more. You were talking about "Majority" "Minorities" this morning and that may have discombobulated me.
Either way the crowd where I was was nothing like you described. One factor in mitigation of what you observed was at home nobody wants to see their team pushed about and Donegal certainly set out to maximise their physical advantage. We have played 3 games this year in the league and that has certainly been a recurring theme teams trying to physically take Tyrone out of the game.

In any case virtually all Tyrone fans condemned the actions of that idiot but unfortunately you and a few others have been opportunistic presumably to deflect from the real issue your defeat.

I think for you and your friend

"Lecturing" "trying to insinuate"… At the risk of being one of those people with "No Manners" I'll be blunt. I think you've deflected from the universal condemnation of the act carried out by a lout on Karl Lacey. The Tyrone county board and supporters within proximity acted appropriately in the circumstances from what I can gather. I hope the investigation is swift and the idiot dealt with severely.
Too broaden this out to a …what do you expect from them tripe does your county a disservice. Your anecdotal nonsense is just that, I've never seen anything approximating that in the many more Tyrone games I've gone to. When I hear people from Tyrone come out with similar stories to yours about other counties I take a deep breath and let them get their prejudice out of the way but don't give it any credence. Why? Because I believe people are essentially the same, some idiots, some loud mouths, some decent folk, some who know absolutely nothing about football.
I've seen some things from other counties I haven't liked most of it peculiarly when we have been defeated and we are getting our noses rubbed in it .
I like the way you excuse the more uncouth elements in your support as lacking malice but are quick to presume malice with "High spirited" Tyrone people.
I have learned something from you today though…carry them grudges, harbour them deep. Perhaps I'll not be so willing to defend those "high spirited" Donegal fans when they come in for ridicule in future - hopefully the Spillane family have seen things that way too.

What makes you think it was given out of sentiment?

He wasn't the best footballer in the country in 2012, not by a long shot, but he'd been knocking about for awhile and he was on the All Ireland winning team so it made perfect sense to all involved.

It;s hard to know where to start with this but here goes,

How often have you seen Lacey play live, not on telly, but live which is the only way you can properly judge a player.

"He'd been knocking about a while" What the hell does that mean?

Who was better in 2012?

Karl Lacey was THE outstanding footballer in the country last year.

Fully deserving of his footballer of the year award.

Always nice to see an award like that go to a defender rather than a star forward too.

It will be interesting to see if Tyrone Co Board do follow up and take action against this clown. Reading the Tyrone posters on here it would seem that it is known who he is. My bet is that they will claim that they were unable to identify the culprit making their apologies nothing but empty words.

Cant agree with you on this Herbie.
Both Mickey Harte & the Tyrone chairman made personal apologies to Donegal & no Tyrone poster here has had anything but condemnation.
Tyrone are a proud county, full of decent people & to see one of their own sully their name like this will not be be let pass.

I've seen Tyrone fans throw coins at referees, linesmen and players so can't say I'm surprised by this at all.

Its quite obvious to be fair that the tyrone posters are appalled by this behaviour,
Its one person giving the supporters a bad name,
Every county has them and as was said we need to get off the moral high ground.

the worst behaviour I'v seen at a county match in the last tens years was caused by Monaghan supporters at the Ulster finals.

Spitting is a disgusting thing to be at, Lacey deserves better than that.

When you see a replay of what Murphy did then the crowd reaction was probably a little over the top. However at the time it looked a very bad challenge.

In regard to Morgan giving Murphy verbals that again was uncalled for. However 2 or 3 Donegal players stood in front of him taking his free kicks and screamed "post, post" which I thought was equally unsporting. Think that trick came from a certain ex Donegal manager now managing Derry.

From a Tyrone perspective I was a little disappointed that we didn't push on when 7points up and really score a big psychological blow. Donegal will come away thinking that but for the loss of Murphy they may well have won the game. Honours about even.

It must of been a different Healy Park to the one Snuff is describing though......

Yes there definitely is a thuggish element to the Tyrone support, I think we can all agree on that.
