I agree with you Muckross. But surely if the best teams in the country will be the provincial winners (Dubs/Donegal/Cork/Kerry/Mayo) then there is a case for doing away with the qualifiers? Or perhaps only introduce them at provincial final stage with the four beaten teams given another shot then seeded in same way as the semis to avoid whoever beat them in provincial final? Then have a revived Tommy Murphy for the rest.

the problem with home and away agreement and you using croke park is that if that was the case dublin would have to rent the use of croke park like they do in the league while westmeath wouldnt have to rent cusack park.

Will take your word for that. Sounds a bit ludicrous.

sure we had to scenario on the opening night of the spring series where dublin had to pay to rent the ground to play there match while kildare were actually paid by the gaa to play there match in the same ground that night

That is indeed ludicrous. Is the rent a tokenistic transfer of funds or is it more than that? What is the motivation for charging this 'rent'? To me I have always considered Croke Park as Dublin's home ground (though I technically know it isn't) as it would be ludicrous to build another stadium in Dublin when Parnell Park also exists for smaller games.

im not sure what exactly the amount is dublin pay croke park to rent it but i know its a money transfer anyway.
i suppose its the same for anybody who wants to use it just like the leinster council have to rent the ground for leinster championship matches and the ladies football and camogie boards the same for their all ireland finals.
the only games that dont have to be rented are all ireland series matches as they are run by central council.or the national league semi finals and final.
dublin used to play all league games in croker before parnell park was renovated to hold a crowd in the late 90tys and they had to rent the use of croker then also.

Without the agreement of the Kildare County Board there would not have been a spring series this year.

how do you gigure that?
i didnt see many of your fans at either of the games ye played in the spring series?
and again last saturday ye had 4-5 thousand max.
dublin had same crowd almost for all the matches with the exception of the down game.
indeed outside of the down game it was dublin v kildare that was the smallest attendance

Who hold the cards do you think? It is probably in Dublin's interest to play league games in Croke Park as Parnell Park is tad small for most games. However, do the Leinster Council need to play Leinster hurling championship games there given the crowds they are getting. Last year's games were all played outside Croke Park besides the final. Maybe they would be better off playing the final outside as well given the success of the league final this year. I imagine though they are forced to play some games there (as Central Council have their boxes sold).

I think that the four teams who come through the qualifiers will at the very least give the four provincial fianlists a run for their money & in the case of Tyrone & the losers of Cork/Kerry have legitimate expectations of going farther.

oh its defo in dublins interest as parnell park only holds 7 thousand now with health and safety rubbish so its impossible to play there for a division one league match.but its also in all the other countys interest aswell as you may not know that all the gate reciepts are shared out among the countys,so dublin dont actually get the money from having abigger crowd at league games it gets shared out.i dont think leinster council will play any matches other then the fial in hurling in croker.
portlaoise was where semi final was between dublin and kilkenny last year and had 11 or 12 thousand at it so would imagine a semi final with possible the same countys will be there again.the final will always be in croker id imagine.

they paid kildare because the gaa thaught newbridges 6 thousand capacity wouldnt be enough for kildare v donegal(as they were all ireland champions)

You questioned my assertion that there would have been no spring series this year without the agreement of the Kildare County Board to move two fixtures out of Newbridge. That article shows that this was the case.

QUOTE: "Crucial to extending the Series into 2013 was getting Kildare to concede home advantage for two games, set for St Conleth's Park, and play them instead in Croke Park."

Your County Board chairman was also quoted saying the series was "certainly back on the bill" after his Kildare counterparts agreed to move two fixtures originally scheduled for Newbridge.

Helping out our neighbour by paying to switch their games so they could also get the feel for Croker with some extra games there....your welcome :-)

Just over 7,000 are in attendance at Wexford Park this evening. What is your opinion of holding the replay in Parnell Park next week? I personally think it is the right decision and there will be a great atmosphere there with around 10,000 at it, I doubt Croker Park would have brought many more to the game....
