That was a watershed moment for me Brend with those posters. It speaks volumes for them - "I'm alright (Union) Jack" mentality.

Rip Aidan on your 25th Anniversary and its great to know that your memory lives
on in the GAA family as there is a team in Boston (USA) bearing your name and who are
very successful in that part of the world.

Isn't it nice to see that those posters who were happy to chide and condemn James McClean for his principled stance on not choosing to wear a poppy on his shirt are conspicuous by their absence on this thread, shame on you.

Fact of the matter is that there were over 3,000 people murdered during the so called troubles, and while the murder of young Aidan Mc Anespie was an outrage, so were the majority of all the other murders. Rather than just commemorating individual murders, how about a commemoration for all of those who lost their lifes in the troubles?

Clearly its escaped your notice Gilly, but this is a GAA forum and Aidan McAnespie was a young gaelic footballer effectively murdered by the British state. I'm sure there were many rugby, soccer, hockey players who also perished during the troubles, I suggest you go find the appropriate forum and start your own commemoration, me, I want to remember one our own, now move along.

Some subtleties obviously lost on you.
Today is Aidan McAnespie's 25th Anniversary.
He was an active GAA member on his way to play a GAA match against his neighbours on the day he was murdered.
This is a GAA website.
Aidan McAnespie was murdered by the forces they are charged with protecting. They are to uphold and enforce the law.
Despite repeated warnings that they were going to assassinate him they made the excuse that it was an accident which happened while they were cleaning a gun.
The offending security force (Think about those two words) members were never court marshalled or tried in a criminal court despite overwhelming evidence to refute their flawed account. No guilt was ever admitted though Shaun Woodward has expressed regret following HET and PSNI inquiries.

Its about a community not forgetting someone killed by a foreign state (where no one was held accountable)in cold blood.
A so called democractically elected government who buried what happened.

Im not interested in a debate about this, but british government always maintained it was an accident, they regreted an accident took place, when they clearly knew it couldnt of been an accident, as i said buried what happened.

Once again gilly might I remind you this is not the letters page of some UK broadsheet, this is a GAA discussion forum, take your pitiful wumming elsewhere as you are clearly not interested in the subject or are deliberately setting out to provoke a response, I will not indulge you and would urge others not to either.

What possible relevance is that link - that justice has been served?

It's clear to me that the HS is not immune to proliferation of Robot hackers. Perhaps before his ilk post they should have to type those squiggly encryption words to validate they are indeed human.

Gilly,
I don't know if you are old enough to remember they day Aidan was murdered or the intimidation, harrasmant and brutality suffered by GAA members in the 6 counties during this dark period in our history. I am certianly old enough to rememebr the day well and unfortuantly many others where GAA members were targeted or murdered simply because of their membership of our great organistion. We are forever in the debt of these great gaels who kept the GAA alive throughout the North during these times. Without there efforts none of us would have the 32 county organistaion we now have, no All Ireland finals would exist and we would all be a lot poorer for it.
When the history of the GAA is written, many great names will be remember for making our organisation, but those who kept the GAA alive in the North will be at the forefront
RIP Aidan
