Speaking of being 'lucky' on the day....
Was delighted when Dublin won Sam in 2011, especially for Gilroy who I believe transformed them into a team unit versus a group of individuals under Pillar (alot of whom were glory seeking individuals). But on the flip-side to some of the posts, if you want to discuss 'lucky' teams, was it luck that Dublin won Sam or 'bad-luck' that Kerry threw away a match with that lead in the dying minutes, that every sincere GAA footballing person knows is the case......... but that's the way it goes sometimes, its all on the day, and its this that makes our game one of the best in the world....

As for O'Connell, Flynn, O'Rourke, Giles, Geraghty & co being described as 'ordinary', --------- does not credit a response...
These men were legends just as Curran, O'Leary, Holden, Brogan etc etc are/were for the Dub's, and Joyce , Kavanagh, O'Sea, Gooch, McCarthy etc etc and so many more are/were legends of the game for their counties. With respect folks, its people like these that have given us hours to talk about and the spectacle of skill to watch over the years... Respect where respect is due.... and probably better to not reply to the odd 'dis-respectful' clown or two on this forum. QED

Interesting logic
How many games have Meath been "lucky" to come back in then...?
My point is not that Meath's achievements were lucky. Becasue that's simply not true
I mean there's been several instances where Meath have been behind in major games going into the last 10 minutes
Did those other teams throw it away like Kerry or was it that Meath's make up for success was never to give up until the whistle blew?
I mean... coming back from 4 points down is hardly a huge undertaking. Considering how well Dublin played in the first and the start of the 2nd half

Dublin completed it in about 60 seconds. 1-1 bang, bang game on
Then it was all up to who wanted it more and Dublin won that battle.

Perhaps Meath were lucky to win at the end of the 4 in a row in 1991...
I mean Dublin had a decent lead going into the last 10 minutes
Yes that's it. I see your logic now. Dublin threw that game away and Meath were lucky to win.
That's why Down ended up winning in 1991. Meath were luck to be even in the final.
Yes I see it now

This is often unpopular especially with Meath fans but rated the 96-99 team higher than the 87-98 team!

Beelze-bud, bar your view through 'slightly' blue tinted glasses, I have to agree you are nearly there. What made Metah great was, as you say, that 'never say never' attitude of never giving up until the final whistle blows. I agree we won matches that we probably should never have, we came out on top in '91 after those epic encounters (I can still feel the hairs on the back of my neck stand up when I think back to being a young lad in the Hogan Stand, little did I know that I was experiencing history in the making....), any true GAA person would agree with you that on the balance of things Dublin should have been the victors. again in '96, some would quietly agree (even in Meath) that Mayo should have put us away but were unable to. Very few were with that team, sad to say we are a liong way from that attitude at the moment. I feel, given time, Mick, Sean, Trevor and co will get it right but whether we have the players is the real question....

Sean Boylan has been appointed director of hurling and football in the Royal County, good move by the county board to get him back in this role, hopefully it works out this time.

Makes perfect sense alright

The one man is responsible for almost 60% of your 7 AI wins in the entire history of the GAA

I think getting him involved is a bloody no brainer.

Yeah KELF the Biffos never rated Laois, even when Laois started hammering them at under age . Or when Laois clearly passed Biffos out in the Leinster rankings. Biffos were busy building a stadium for Laois,Dublin,Wexford,Kildare,Tipperary,Carlow,to show how superior they are to the Biffo footballers.
