1328466 Yes I think we can all agree that luck played a huge part in Meaths success in that time. I think most genuine Meath fans will admit that.
But in fairness they had some good footballers too, nothing special, but good footballers
if you actually think that we had no special footballers then that says alot about your knowledge of football... most people would consider meath players of the 80s and 90s some of the best to ever play the game. those people saying we were just very lucky having one golden generation after the other, between those 2 sets of generations we had to wait from 92-96 before we won anything again so we wernt just lucky all the time. i think people are basing meaths performances in the league over the last few years on how the team are, but if you look back over the last few championships we havnt been as bad as everyone is making out. 2009 -got to all ireland semi-final, 2010 -won leinster and quarter final, 2011 we didnt get far, but 2012 -leinster final appearance like that isnt too bad for an average team like meath who has ran out of luck..

Meath's bubble bursting hasn't been helped by Meath GAA's lack of forward planning/ vision and the blame rests solely at the feet of their county board Did you honestly just think that somehow you'd keep on producing legendary crops of players out of nowhere?
In fairness, they won't be the only county to have internal politics and lack of leadership from the county board cast a long shadow over the team. Living down here football is very much alive and well. They get the right man and a development plan in place they'll produce again. Peaks and valleys.

Just to be clear about this Meath are one of the most successful footballing counties in the country. It says alot about The dubs with a population of over a million that they have two all Irelands since 1983 yet they feel they need to point out Meaths failings

Good man atta, some of the posters here are revealing in the Meath result yesterday although their silence when presented with a few facts speaks volumes

Personally i dont like seeing meath in a bad place, and it can happen quickly to any county, , though this is only one match and a lot more football to be played,,i certainly wouldnt be all high and mighty about it, and i think they were a great team , TEAM being the operative word , with some great players.
richieq when we lost to mayo last year, some of the meath lads were first on to put the boot in, so it happens to every one. sh..t happens.

Its interesting the way there was so many games yesterday and all everyone is talking about is Meath. All I want to point out is that Meath beat Monaghan in their first league game last year, also hammered Westmeath away and were within a point of beating Kildare only for McAnarney hit crossbar, however it was all downhill from there. I'm glad yesterday was the first game and not our 3rd our 4th. We can still turn things around, its up to the players to respond. To me there was several things wrong yesterday the main one being the players looked tired and over trained and as a result lacked hunger. In hindsight the team selection wasn't great either. But this Meath team must be the most inconsistent team in the country, we can be extremely bad but we can also be very good at times.

Meath have been punishing above their weight for a few years now. OK there is the odd shock in the championship but they will have to give O Dowd a chance at the helm

Meath had a fanstastic team!
But its cyclic really....there are teams who are just better than them at the moment.
Hasnt helped that they dropped the ball on underage games promotion etc.
The Dublins, Tyrones, Corks, Donegals have been pushing good underage teams through for the past ten years. It takes time to develop a strong senior setup!

Lads relax.
My comments clearly applaud the genius that is Sean Boylan. Surley you can take that as a compliment. You have took the negatives from my comments while blatently ignoring the positives.
By the way I think Sean Boylan would save the current squad from relegation if he was manager. And lets me honest that is a dreadful Meath side. Thats how highly I rate the man.

I am surprised my some comments:- Look this was Meath's golden Age, maybe it will be repeated maybe it won't, BUT to suggest that Meath did well considering their population is just finding an excuse......
Meath has a much bigger population now than in the early 1990's, Navan has doubled in size ( yes with a Dublin influx), but Ashbourne, Trim, Rathoath, etc are sizeable and fast growing urban centers. Along with Kells, Meath have large urban centers. Although the north of the county is more rural there is still Oldcastle.
Meath really has no other organised sports ( forget the MDL in Navan ) -no serious soccer club or rugby club ( at all-ireland level) , gaelic football is the number one sport but has not succeeded at Leinster senior club level, schools level ( we hear about st. pats - but where are all the other schools)- so Meath has under achieved
In Meath there is a JFC at A, B,C, D, E and F level. In Armagh we have 1 JFC as most clubs struggle to field. In essence Meath have the playing numbers, clubs and facilities, but have performed poorly at serious competitions in club/schools level has the downturn in the economy effected meathgaa - Noel Keating of Kepak pumped 'loads' into meath in the glory days - is this still happening!!!!

Firstly you say luck had a major part in success a fact that most genuine Meath supporters would recognise you say, now you put it down to the genius of Sean Boylan, who are these genuine Meath supporters you refer to?? Sean Boylan was a genius but he had some special players, a fact you seem oblivious too, and the ones that weren't special he moulded into players who could your compliment and support those special players and step up to he mark on a consistent basis. I watched them all in League, Championship and challenge matches up and down the country since 1983 so forgive me if I offer an opinion tha I know a little bit more about those teams than you might

This forum is a great spot for "real" GAA people to display their ignorance on GAA.

Luck or a lack of it plays a huge part in any success, but you need a lot in place to avail of good fortune when it comes your way.

Of course arock. Obviously you also need a lot of raw talent to achieve such success.
But there is always an exception to the rule. Meath being the exception.

Thats a sad pathetic and childish post. Seriously grow up will you. I'm no fan of Meath and indeed certain posters from Meath on these boards deserve stick but there are a lot of decent Meath posters on this forum who don't deserve to read that rubbish above.

Look Connolly if you want to take the p**s fine go ahead, you haven't uttered one single word of logic or sense and like some other poor idle minded Dubs have decided to come on here and rub some Meath noses in it after last Sunday, it that is what you have to do to get your kicks then go ahead, thankfully I know enough Dublin fans to know that your opinions are not shared by everyone
