TG4 don't say the names in Irish anymore do they? I know they used but I thought they changed their policy on that a few years ago and now say the name in English but the rest of sentence in Irish. doublehop (Kildare) - Posts: 4172 - 05/12/2012 20:51:36 1307035 Link 0 |
Maybe rather than TG4 changing to creating a red button for you, you could learn some of the Irish language. Sports commentary is pretty specific language with the same words used over and over again. Won't take you long. icehonesty (Wexford) - Posts: 2573 - 05/12/2012 20:56:37 1307041 Link 0 |
haha icehonesty has a point it wouldnt kill you to learn irish it would actualy benifit you knowing another language hill16no1man (Dublin) - Posts: 12665 - 05/12/2012 21:18:34 1307052 Link 0 |
You don't have to study it. If you listen to the commentary and you see the ball being kicked wide and then you see the ball being kicked wide again, if you hear the same phrase, the chances are the commentator is saying that ball has been kicked wide. Wait for the third wide just to be sure. bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 05/12/2012 21:58:29 1307083 Link 0 |

part of being a member of the GAA is to uphold and promote the Irish language so we should all make an effort to learn our native language if we are true Gaels. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 06/12/2012 09:48:48 1307107 Link 0 |
my county colleague (middle row keyboard) is way off the mark.. TG4 is probably the only "cool" station in the country. s goldrick (Cavan) - Posts: 5520 - 06/12/2012 09:50:41 1307111 Link 0 |
Very true S Goldrick. In fact, the word Gael is actuall an Irish word...and the language of the Gael is Gaeilge. Its amazing how many anti Irish language 'Gaeil' there are out there! Culann (Dublin) - Posts: 2306 - 06/12/2012 09:55:32 1307115 Link 0 |

Who criticised TG4? Cracking station. Films, sport, good documentaries. What more does a man want or need? gotmilk (Fermanagh) - Posts: 4971 - 06/12/2012 11:41:22 1307156 Link 0 |

Don't bother getting premier sports, I have had it for the last year and its gaa coverage has gone very bad, I dont think they have shown any club games at all this year, they mainly seem to show nrl or south american soccer. I think I will be giving it the boot. draydis (UK) - Posts: 81 - 06/12/2012 14:09:38 1307233 Link 0 |
Here's a realistic option, Learn irish. TG4 promotes irish not offer english on the red button, it does a better job than the GAA. Hurl.Force.One (Tyrone) - Posts: 106 - 06/12/2012 14:18:46 1307240 Link 0 |
Bennybunny is spot on. Anyone who learned Irish in school, as I assume most of you did, would be able to follow the commentary easily enough if you made the effort. And it is good practise. TG4 is an excellent station and is way ahead of RTE on so many levels, and with a fraction of their budget. I'd given them franchise for all GAA games. hurlingdub (Dublin) - Posts: 6978 - 06/12/2012 21:01:43 1307518 Link 0 |
