Firste off, if his name Laurent Blanc why would you call him larry white? Do you honestly think that is what I am suggesting? If so, where did I give that impression?

Secondly, how do you know that Cahill does pronounce his name Kay Hill? Or are you just assuming?

Thirdly, the great Dublin footballer, when playing soccer in England, used to be referred to as Kevin more anne. Do you take issue with this?

Reagrding Cahill or Kay Hill, if you do not know how they pronounce it themselves why not just pronounce it as you would yourself - Cahill.

Well yes normally I would pronounce it Cahill, but knowing people from abroad with that name, as they pronounce it Kayhill then I follow suit, I'm hardly going to call them something else when I know how the pronounce it themselves. I've never met Gary Cahill, but people I know who were close enough to Sheffield United when he played for them call him by that name and to be honest some of them might find it strange how the name is pronounced differently over here. So yes, maybe I am assuming that's what the lad calls himself, but if it's how people who used to work close enough to him on a fairly regular basis pronounce it then why should I do any different?

More Anne was a strange one alright, bit like they way some racing commentators but more emphasis on the "g" in the Johnny Murtagh, or drag out the "o" in Ken Doherty, or else add in a c before the h.

But I suppose if they want to call them that let them away with it, it's probably up to the person themselves to correct them, doesn't really bother me to be honest, maybe some day one of them will be caught out like one of their football commentators was back during Euro '88 when Packie Boner was playing in goal for us.

Don't really see why any of it is an issue at all really.

Rebute my points if you can. Tell me how you have not been brainwashed. How you independently made up your mind that English soccer was for you. Reagrding having a separate opinion, it appears i am in the minority in what I am debating here. As I have said above, we live in a democracy. If this is how Irish people want Ireland to be well then fair enough. But again its not for me and people should not be stopped from saying it how it is. That is all I am doing here.

Regarding love/hate, great to see Irish actors getting recognition. In my opinion we gave the best actors in the world. That has a lot to do with our great storytelling traditions in Ireland. Reagarding the content however, I think we have to be careful that young kids do not put these crime gangsters on a pedastoll or inspire to be like them. Television has can have a very negative effect on society.

how have i been brainwashed culann check the other page if you wish and dont ignore all the post?...well the world cup is the first quality soccer iv seen...english league is the most accessible top quality league for somebody living in ireland..where did i say english soccer was for me?...you seem obsessed with the idea that everybody watches english soccer and nothing else..i attended league of ireland for a number of years and also played for my local league of ireland team at underage level however the standard was very poor and also the creation of summer soccer meant it was going to clash with gaa and there would be only one winner there...well thats your opinion culann but i agree with you in that we have some exceptional actors..to say we have the best would be pretty biased

Still laughing at your contention that Irish people are more British than British people :) ha ha

Its not really a luaghing matter mate. Its sad really. Again we have a adopted there language, cultur and society. They are not originally our. Hence, we have become as Brisish as the British themselves.

Ffgg: " dont be using the internet culann it would be hypocritcal of you to use a british creation."

Quoting from an earlier post of mine with an addition

The World Wide Web was not created in Britain but by an English scientist, Tim Berners Lee while working at (CERN) European Organization for Nuclear Research in Geneva and who was assisted by a number of his colleagues there. There is nothing ironic on my behalf or hypocritical on Culann's part in expressing an opinion via a means of communication irrespective of where it was invented or by whom. This holds true going back to the invention of ink by the Chinese after which written communication became widespread. If we follow ffgg's logic then it would have been hypocritical to criticise the Chinese by writing a letter via the medium of ink to a newspaper for what happened in Tinnamen Square in 1988 simply because they invented ink
