Toomy do you not reckon a drier pitch would suit loughuile too?? I do agree though, a lot of their shooting was poor and the shamrocks got out of jail to a certain extent........although had the umpire been on the ball.......

The incident everyone is referring to regarding Watson breaking his stick is well wide of the mark! For starters it wasn't Waston it was Tony McCloskey and he got booked, secondly it was a ridiculous decision as he won the ball cleanly and was then fouled. I'm not a Loughgeil supporter but there were a lot of tackles from Thomas' player which made contact with Loughgeil players faceguards which were not deemed fouls ( this is supposed to be a red card!) so to say the referee favoured them is also pretty ridiculous. The pitch was a downright disgrace and it says it all about the GAA that they expect club players who have trained religiously all year and made lots of sacrifices that they are treated as shabbily. i thought that the heavy pitch favoured Thomas' more so than Loughgeil, especially didn't suit loughgeils two corner forwards. In my opinion all club semifinals at this time of year ( senior, intermediate and junior) should be played in Croke park as double headers or even 3 games on a day. it's supposed to be a state of the art pitch so should be able to handle it and as we all paid for it it's about time the old fogeys game something back to club players all over the country. For the sake of hurling in Antrim I hope Loughgeil win next day out, but it's going to be tough and they need to figure out how to beat the Thomas' tactic of dropping men back to crowd their halfback line and stop Waston and Eddie McCloskey getting any ball, stinks of the defensive/sweeper system that everyone is moaning about in football at the minute. Personally I'd bring Watson out and let him fire them over from further out, he has the ability.

Any sign of THURLESBLUES

He must be in hiding. Great win for for the Offaly champions. Thurlesblue and all of Tipp must dread the sight of KK.

Rule 5.29 To pull or take hold of a faceguard or any other part of an opponent's helmet.

The penalty is for this is a yellows card, not red.

Regardless game.on.now.ger these incidents I'm referring to were frees and weren't given, you have indeed clarified that they were frees by suggesting that they were yellow cards. If you concede frees you will concede scores my friend hence your statistic, the 0-2 to me suggests discipline and better tackling skills. What frees in particular do you think weren't?

Hurling in Leinster is much stronger now than Munster

Honestly I just wanted to bring up the point on the faceguards thing cause i've seen it said a few times on here that it's a red card when it's not. I thought for the most part the ref was ok, Thomas's themselves were at fault for giving away soft frees for stuff like pushing in the back and pulling jerseys that intercounty refs will always pick up on.

In relation to the McCloskey incident you are right that he was being fouled first, but he was still lucky to stay on after swinging back at head height the way he did. Similarly, Liam Watson fouled Shane Cooney midway through the first half but no free was given, the Cooney then hit him when the ball was gone. Didn't see on the tv what Cooney did, would imagine he was lucky to only get a booking though. Both of these incidents came from the ref not giving the free initially. I also felt that for Loughgeil's first goal the forward interfered with the fullback's helmet as the high ball was dropping in.

Great game really enjoyed it, the result was in doubt right to the end.I thought Thomases were the better team but also made more mistakes than Shamrocks such as conceeding soft frees. The pitch was very heavy but most pitches are this time of the year.Any word of the replay?

Personally I thought the St. Thomas's / Loughgiel match was brilliant to watch given the conditions just like other club semifinals involving Galway clubs in recent years like Clarinbridge / De La Salle and Portumna / Ballyhale. I still think that Thomas's can improve in a lot of areas such as taking more of the scoring chances that come their way. Even though 1 - 25 is a pretty good scoring return even with extra time they had at least 15 wides (many from very scoreable positions) in contrast to Loughgiel with only about half that total. Also their defending was a bit naive at times and conceding 1 - 7 from frees was completely unnecessary although I did think some of those frees were of the soft variety. In fairness Loughgiel were dogged with a good spirit but I still feel Thomas's have the more natural hurlers and a drier sod would suit the pace and skill in their forwards a lot more than the mud and muck of Parnell Park the last day.

In fairness, the mud and muck gave St Thomas' their goal which would not have happened otherwise. I do think that a draw was a fair enough result as I'm not sure either side deserved to lose. I would agree that some of the frees were soft, in relation to the fact that it was lazy tackling i.e hands on the back, jersey pulling. These are fouls fullstop and a referee of the calibre of Kelly will not miss them. He did miss one near the end when a Loughgiel player was tripped by a Thomas player lying on the ground and Thomas' went on to score, but that's the breaks. A really enjoyable game with 48 scores played on an absolute slurry pit is a credit to both teams
