Is the hype going to get to Donegal?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Donegal and some of their fans really need to take a step back here as some of this stuff is starting to border on arrogance and contempt for others and it smacks of the antics of Dublin and some of their support before the 92 final. Starting to talk about victory parades, dismissing other counties and an air of general superiority will be music to Mayo's ears. Wise up SOME Donegal people or you could be heading for a very big fall, get real and back to basics.

Every All Ireland finalist - win or lose - has had a homecoming. It's not arrogance. It is about respecting your team's efforts. It is not a victory parade. And with or without Sam the team deserve to be acknowledged for the year they have given their fans.

That's all this is about. It's typical of Letterkenny.

I agree. Every county does always put on a homecoming for the finalists, win or lose.

This type of thing has to be planned out in advance for health and safety reasons, due to the large gathering of people on roads leading into a town.

benjy, what question? All I can see is you asking me why you should answer the simple question I asked, and the answer is obvious. Answering it makes this all go away and proves the story wrong beyond any doubt. It is the obvious, and may I say very simple, solution for you to totally sink this story, show that the team is totally innocent and that I or whoever said it made the whole thing up all in one swoop. That is of course, assuming it is untrue and the donegal lads are not trying to cover this up by avoiding answering it. So now I have answered your question do you have the courtesy to answer mine?

Re the homecoming. It isnt the fact that they are having a homecoming, it is the fact that they are all fighting over who gets it. It doesnt take a genius to work out why.

Keep denying it lads, ye are only making it worse. Lying about it and hiding from it wont make it go away.

I know the question you really want to ask benjy. 'How did that mayo fella hear about all this?'

Fighting? What fighting? Donegal Town traditionally held the homecoming, Letterkenny applied for it, County Board said Donegal Town. The rest is just smoke & mirrors created by newspapers & local radio looking for a story where there was none.
The same applies to the hotel story. Anyone with even a modicum of sense would know that the Donegal squad couldn't care less where they stay & most certainly wouldn't get into a scrap about it.

However Master, if the thought of Donegal tearing itself apart over this trivia helps you sleep at night, then knock yourself out.

This is crazy. Nobody should reply to Themaster. He is just a WUM. Everyone in donegal knows the team and knows the structure in place. There is no way the players asked for a different hotel.
On the homecoming it is a homecoming regardless of result. Letterkenny tried to get the crowd and i do believe it was in bad taste but that had nothing to do with the team or management.

Come on guys , this is a final between 2 teams that are dying to win it. lets talk football and matchups instead of talking crap about the teams and players that are doing their best for us.

Lads I am not making any of this up. If I was then it would be easy to prove me wrong, so why is everyone so uncommital about doing so?
Name the hotels where they stayed for the semi and quarter, and virtually every other game they have had in dublin. And then name the hotel they have booked for the final. If what ye lads are saying is true then they should be the same. Very simple. The real thing to note on this thread is that when you strip away all the guff ye have talked on here, none of ye have done this. To then turn around and start pointing the finger at me is frankly dishonest. There are guys who have posted on this thread who know what I am talking about but they are not man enough to say it. Irishtom brought up the regency, I hadnt mentioed the place, yet he then used the 'I know nothing' excuse and hightailed it off the thread. I appreciate that some mightnt know about it, and to those I say read over this thread and see if you can read between the lines. Everyone up in arms, but nobody showing that I am wrong, even though it would take little or no effort to do so.

I am aware of what hotel the players are staying in since Sunday - its been posted on a lot of threads both on this forum and elsewhere.
In fact if you asked me to guess this time last week based on where most all ireland finalists I would have picked one of two
So your whole point about proving your cock and bull is that you know which hotel the Donegal team are staying in does not stack up.

However I would believe your story if you could prove they had a reservation in the Regency

Im sure you know for e.g it was posted on the Donegal forum twice about 6 hours before you started your rumour
But lets follow your argument in the order that you made it - Prove that they had a booking in the regency and then we can confirm if the rumour is true.

Have to agree here. All these thing will find its way to the player no matter how much they'll try and avoid it. There's alot of goodwill towards Donegal that slowly getting eroded away. Things like Devennys comments or Kevin Cassidy's tweet are only ramping up the pressure on the team.
Mayo must be loving this. It's exactly the hype and mentality that they thrive on.

Let's not get carried away here. I have not seen any "contempt" for the Mayo Senior Football Team, either here or anywhere else. I would even question arrogance although a few Johnny Come Latelys could do with toning things down a bit.
Since the Championship started we have been told at almost every stage that we were going to be "found out". I have even seen it with regard to the final. We always felt that we wouldn't be "found out because we know what this Donegal setup is about because we have watched it evolve over the last two years.
Having had so many lean years we are now genuinely thrilled & excited that what we have watched grow has come good to the extent that we have beaten some of the best teams in the country & are favourites for the final.
For us Donegal people this is uncharted water and so I would beg a little indulgence if we get a smidgin carried away with it all!!!!

I can only imagine that Mayo people not alone would understand this but would also feel the same way about being where they are at the moment.

Earlier in the year I stopped by a bookies window and saw Donegal at 20/1 to win an All Ireland. I don't know what Mayo's odds were but I'm sure they were something similar. I wonder what odds I would have gotten on a Donegal Mayo pairing in the final?????

What with the row over the homecoming

the row over the hotel

and then the

revelation that DL people/fans had assaulted Spillane

the answer has to be yes, they have lost the plot big-time.

1261518 What with the row over the homecoming
I've seen bigger rows in my own kitchen

the row over the hotel
I've had bigger rows with myself

and then the revelation that DL people/fans had assaulted Spillane
Whatever happened shouldn't have happened but it's hardly the first time there was handbags at a Gaa match, Derrytresk, Wicklow on any given Sunday.

the answer has to be yes, they have lost the plot big-time.

Clutching at straws, clutching at straws........

I never seen it an any forum. I dont think I have ever been on the donegal page. In fairness that probably makes the denials that it was true on here all the worse. They knew the hotels had been changed all along but denied it. Bit by bit the facts are coming out. And now u ask me to prove they had a booking. Well then I will ask you to prove they didnt. The reality is this is an internet forum, not a court of law. I made a genuine comment on the assumption that the donegal posters would be forthcoming and honest in their answering. Maybe that was my mistake. I mean, if a fella down in mayo can hear what happened then obviously there are plenty in donegal who did also. In truth, if that had been done this thing would probably be long gone and the thread would have sunk to the depths.
