i really can't see donegal not doing the 3 in a row in ulster now. they've never done it but have other counties done it apart from cavan?

We can further discuss this matter when Sam is home and dry for 2012, if hes up in them there hills of Donegal they will have mission accomplished and no oe will begrudge them their celebrations. If that happens then I for one cannot see them putting the same emphasis on winning Anglo celt cups back to back. It has to be Fermanaghs turn soooooooooooooooooooooooooooon.

OK so Sam is at home in the hills.

So who will stop the Donegal Ulster 3 in a row?

Tyrone - Main contenders if they can get a full squad. Hopefully they get put on separate sides of the draw and can't meet until the final.
Cavan - Did well last year and expect them to improve slightly with their young squad but will fall short.
Armagh - Not up to much a bit like Meath capable of 1 shock at most but they are Donegals bogey team so who knows.
Derry - I think they will be just as bad next year.
Down - Capable of a shock but losing the 2 lads to AUS Rules is killing them.
Monaghan - Can't see them doing it.

So to me Tyrone are the only team that will stop a historic Donegal 3 in a row. Is Cavan the only team to do this?

in fairness the same can be said for leinster with dublin completely dominating. meath are the only leinster team who have beaten dublin in six or seven years and the other teams in leinster dont seem to be able to actually beat dublin with wexford and kildare, the only teams coming close to beating dublin.

I think that Tyrone will b back with a bang next year. They were a few short thru injury this year and are going 2 b waiting in the long grass for us.

As for Armagh, who knows, they are in a very soft spot at the moment. Monaghan are poor are as fermanagh and antrim. Down will have to improve massively, Cavan are on the up but are still a year shy of the final article. Derry are rebuilding from scratch.

So Tyrone seem to b the team that are going to be there or there abouts come july next year

Tyrone a real threat in Ulster. They will have players back & Mickey Harte will be motivated like never before. Expect a lot of puking at Tyrone training sessions this winter!!

The rest, nowhere.

I haven't posted all week (real life got in the way a bit), so I just want to congratulate Donegal on a well-deserved win - it's great to see another county succeed where sam will be the biggest thing for the coming year (I know the Dubs enjoyed it too last year). I thought the pressure might have gotten to ye in the build-up to the match, but Jimmy kept yeer lads well-grounded, so who knows what sort of defence ye can mount next year... I can't see ye surrendering the title easily anyway. Roll-on 2013...

Armagh did 3 in a row ( 2004, 2005, 2006 ).
Cavan did 3 in a row ( 1903, 1904, 1905 ), ( 1918, 1919, 1920 ) and ( 1947, 1948, 1949 )
Cavan did 5 in a row ( 1922, 1923, 1924, 1925, 1926),
Antrim did 6 in a row ( 1908, 1909, 1910, 1911, 1912, 1913 ),
Cavan did 7 in a row ( 1931, 1932, 1933, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1937 ) and again ( 1939, 1940, 1941, 1942, 1943, 1944, 1945 ).

In the modern era Armagh's feat has really stood out, as modern day Ulster football is a tough championship to dominate.

Tyrone will likely be Donegal's biggest Challenger in 2013, but thats not to say Armagh, Monaghan, Down, Cavan and Derry can't stick it to them on the day.
Donegal are certainly very capable of winning a 3rd Ulster title in a row, and look to be Ulsters most solid looking outfit by far.
I dont think the current Donegal squad would still view Armagh as their bogey team, as mentally i dont think they would feel they have any bogey team.

Is the draw made this thursday?

When is the 2013 Ulster championship draw to been made? I heard somebody say it was this thursday.

It will be interesting to see were Tyrone and Donegal are placed. I can likely see them both contest the Ulster final this season, if in seperate sides of the draw.

I think Brian McIver will turn Derry around, and make them competive again. Although it may take a year or two to get them competing for Ulster titles, and thats only if things come together for them. He certainly seems to have the right backroom team. Division 2 could prove to be the right platform for building a good side.

As pointed out by Ruana, I think your Sat Nav is broken. Slieve Donard is in fact Co. Down so you would be advised to refer to an atlas of your own Country before you make any further comments. As my own comment was tongue-in-cheek, followed by a number of exclamation marks, it was clear to everyone but you that it was meant to be taken as such. In saying that, my prediction of Antrim winning another Ulster football title will happen some day in the near future with the right man at the helm. You can laugh up your sleeve all you want but St.Gall's for proven that there is no shortage of ability in Antrim. I bet you laughed at the thought of Donegal winning Sam 2 years back. One of these days Jack, one of these days!!!!

Even before the results showed it to be obvious, I thought that John Brennan was going to be a useless manager for Doire. Brennan is a really old school man, all about the fire in the belly and pride in the jersey, and that's great - It may work for a club team, going into local games with some heavy baggage, but in the modern intercounty game his likes can't go too far. I think Brian McIvor is more of a thinking man and he'll do far better for Doire, who are a very capable team. Hopefully he'll get them competitive in the next season or two for a start at least.
I wouldn't mind either if he got rid of some of the old heads, caus I'm afraid they're not going to win anything at this stage. Doire need to work from the youth up.
