Will Mayo win the All Ireland?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Mayo flatter to deceive every single year and all I can say is I hope none of the rest of the squad are operating with the same mindset of Mortimer......its a team game and nobody is invinceable.....big egoes only drag a team down...

Mayo are a team, the ego is gone. That is the only thing that has held us back in previous years. Mark my words we will win the All Ireland this year.

Agree with roundball don't know how Donegal are rated ahead and sometimes Kildare. Having said that it is good to be underrated and coming in under the radar.

My analysis has being spot on all year. How I mentioned Galway would start well but lose the Connacht semi final to Sligo and then lose their first qualifier match. I said that Tyrone would beat Roscommon by 10+. I said that Kildare would lose to Meath (The only one to say it) I dont have much to prove.

Roundball & Rocket... The reason donegal are rated higher than Mayo is simply because we have actually beaten quality opposition to get to an ulster final and also if we do win on sunday we will have played 4 matches to win our provincial championship, whereas Mayo have won 2 matches against Leitrim and sligo, think this confirms all of the above.

On the question of Mayo good enough to win the AI, I think not, there likely to make an impact but not strong enough to win 3 matches now in croker park, before someone comes back shouting and spouting about donegal's chances, then I feel the same applies, we will be extremely difficult to beat but to win 3 matches in Croker park if we get there is a big ask and I feel that wee lack one more quality forward that is required to win sam.....

If we don't sam then I would be delighted to see sam head west and there is not a county in Ireland would begrudge Mayo an all ireland after all the heartaches of the last 10 years

Mayo don't have enough scoring forwards to win the All Ireland. I think Dublin will beat them in the Semi final (revenge for 2006)

Is there any chance that Mayo could meet Meath this year ? Does it depend on a draw out of the hat ? Just curious. If it did happen then ye might have a little problem getting Sam , but I have always liked Mayo football and certainly wouldnt begrudge ye .

I second the motion Sir! Well, AN All Ireland anyway

But it seems all you have to do with Mayo is put them in a final in Croker to guarantee defeat for them. Even in the league.

I s'pose they have to overcome that some time, but will it be this year? Probably not. I'd say any one of Dublin, Cork, Kerry, Tyrone, Donegal would stop them as matters stand

We will meet in the Semi if ye dethrone the Dubs in Leinster and we both win out QF. If the dubs beat ye we could meet in the QF.

I think we need too much to go right for us in order to win the all Ireland.that being said, a nice quarter final draw and a win and anything is possible (there's the mayo optimism in me).

I find it amusing at all the mayo bashers on here totally dismissing their chances.granted we have failed on the big day 4 occasions over the last 20 years but that really counts for nothing.in the last year this particular group of players have won 2 connachts and reached both an all Ireland semi and a div 1 national league final.not to blow our own trumpets but that is decent going and while we might not lift the all elusive prize come September we'll give it a decent shot. And I guarantee no team orset of ssupporters, regardless of whether they think we're chokers or not, will fancy playing us!

Out of all the big teams which I would consider Mayo , they have by far the worst forward line talent wise

You've beaten one quality team, Tyrone, who have spent the last few years operating out of Division 2 and were stripped of some of their best players through injury. The standard in Ulster has fallen off a cliff in recent times, Cavan and Derry were woeful in the qualifiers. I would argue that they are poorer than Sligo and Leitrim. Mayo also had a better league than Donegal and a pretty similar season last year in terms of the level reached and quality of opposition beaten. In fact you could argue that while Donegal-Dublin might have been tighter than Mayo-Kerry, Mayo beat the reigning All Ireland champions last year, Donegal squeezed past a massively overhyped Kildare team.

I'm not saying Donegal aren't a decent side but they are in the same bracket as Mayo, a little bit off Cork and Dublin and you wouldn't be putting the house on either to beat Kerry or Tyrone in Croke Park either.
