1218255 Lads, we are all Irish GAA Supporters, lets not fall out over the use of the Irish Language.
but we are not true gaels unless we post in Irish seemingly.
i know an American professor that speaks Irish does that make him a Gael?
I don't know and I don't care. What it does show is that he has less of a problem with Irish than one or two on here do.

I imagine you do care about the language and there is a link There are a couple on here that have a problem with irish ok, I'm sure they have their own reasons, they need to be rooted out along with the odd few that persist with marginalising Irish as some sacred cow which they use as tool to give themselves an air of superiority when in actual fact they are one of the reasons the language is in the main just a nice little earner for those involved with those in the industry.
If the task of restoring the language to a lving one is not taken away from this band of fuhrers soon it will die out for good. Irish people have a habit of rejecting compulsion.
P.S. the same academic has petitioned for the abolition of the curreny mistreatment of the language in the educational/grant system but alas vested interests dont like change. slan

Culann, congratulations on being unpleasant and distasteful in two languages. This may surprise you but I'm not on the edge of my seat waiting for our comments on here, I like to get out and about now and again too. The "poor cratur" comments etc by yourself and the rest of the Irish Solidarity Alliance you're head of there are fairly lame now. Poor Bosco has gone off to sleep etc.. I mean please now!! Look if it helps you to feel fully actualised and a little bit better about yourself to to try and demean me on here then work away. Rudeness and incivility are the calling cards of the insecure and emotionally bereft. I like to think I'm above that. As for your ability to "effortleesly" take apart my arguments well, if you're going to write your own reviews bud then at least take the tie to get the speliings correct eh? Scattering bouquets at your own feet and then telling me I'm juvenile so you'll take it easy on me? Embarrassed much? For future reference, denigrating someone based on their chronological age is a fairly desperate place to find yourself in a discussion. Like yourself, I am the age I am and that's the beginning and the end of it. I've made no contribution to accummulating the years I have on earth, I just stay alive everyday and it takes care of itself. It's like slagging somebody off for being tall or short, makes no sense. It's not their choice. Being arrogant, condescending and downright rude howver is a different story. If it means that much to you to believe that you're so much more clever than me which you obviously do (as obvious as your need for intellectual recognition) then work away sure. It also shows however that the Irish thing is just a vehicle for you to show off a bit. You don't impress me but others will buy it and good for them and you. This is tiresome now so you win, you're the cleverest etc... and just to show there's no hard feelings, slan!

dhorse, did you just have the temerity to state that the Irish language is to be resoterd to a living one? As in a resurrection? Oh you're in for it now, if Culann sees this he'll release the hounds and he can read minds you know!!!! What's your strategy if he asks you what age you are? That's a tricky one but I think I might just have gotten away with it!!!! I think your comments on this topic are spot on. That's not to be psychophantic because I'm looking for support on here which I think is pathetic to be honest when I see it, I just happen to think you're right.

I don't resent the language, this is precisely my issue.

dhorse County: Laois Irish people have a habit of rejecting compulsion. ------------------------------------------------------------- True enough, but they also have a tendency to be pushed out of things a bit too easily. No little group or cabal own the language, in spite of what they or others might think. If any of us want to use the language, in whatever way we want (even if its just for a giggle), we can. We don't need the imprematur of any self appointed group to do so.

festinog, I never said I resent the language, never. I'm disinterested, made that very clear but as other posters have also made clear the implications surrounding it now I'm uneasy with. Nothing wrong with some sensitivity anyway wouldn't you say? Over-sensitivity is a different kettle of fish now, I wonder who might fall into that category, mmmmm.........

I honestly believe this is much ado about nothing. From time to time somebody might start a bi-lingual thread, if its about a match or a controversial decision odds are there will be a corresponding thread in English. If somebody dosen't feel like trying to work out what is going on in the Irish thread and doesn't feel like contributing then they just concentrate on the English thread. The fact that a couple of posters are corresponding with each other As Gaelige in a different thread should not bother them in the least. "Live and let Live". There is room for us all. Personally if the subject interested me, I'd try to contribute to both but thats just me.

Corkcelt, no reasonable person could take umbrage with anything you've said there at all and I certainly don't.The OP on this thread however is motivated by something different I think hence the situation. Like I said I don't think anyone could have a problem with yourself.

Not you too! If you resent the tone of my posts stop following me around on the site and stop giving me a reason to respond to you! Its like Irish language threads on this site. If you don't like them just keep away from them. Ceatharlach agus An Cabhán are gone from the hurling and football championships I thint that you too are just bord.

Well Culann, since you're setting the tone here with this type of snide comment who am I to disagree with someone of your brilliant intellect? Looks like the Irish language section is proving to be a roaring success anyway eh? Well done you, cracking job!!!! Unpleasant in two languages.

The tone was set by you Bosco when you started questioning me for making dogfood out your arguments. Read back over the posts. You will see I stopped debating the issues from that point on. I just figured that there was no point debating the issue with people who aren't capable of it. Now, i will leave the last word on the matter with you and the Breffmyster. Slán agus beannacht (for the second time!!).

On the contrary Culann, you're a sneer and that's the thing that's most obvious when you examine posts. Dogfood of my arguments? If you do say so yourself. Good man, whatever!! Anyway the raison d'etre for this whole carry on was for your brainchild of an Irish language section on Hoganstand so let me once again offer my congratulations. It's a roaring success. So I think I'll be having the last word if you don't mind bud!!! Tee hee....
