Cork Boo Boys

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

You cant beat a Cork v Kerry match, yes Galvin gets he's fair share of booing(which I think he loves and drives him on), but so too do O Leary and Cadogan from the kerry crew. The only reason they didnt on sunday is because Kerry had very bad support on the day. Its all a bit of banter, and the two sets of supporters actually get on great. Ive never seen an fight or even a heated arguement between the two sets of fans in the 24 years ive been going to these games. As for this Kerry team being finished - I WISH !!!

Boorish, obnoxious and unsporting behaviour is not the way to go Liam.People should be able to bring their children to games without them having to listen to torrents of vile abuse being dished out by other so called fans.Theres nothing wrong being spiritedly vocal in support of your team but some fans from every county and club just show a complete lack of respect for those around them and are in fact an ugly embarrassment where ever they go.

I've seen plenty to be honest, the worst was an incident in the Cusack Stand during the 09 Final, more than likely drink-fuelled. Nothing wrong with healthy rivalry.

A rock dublin "The fans of every single county boo free takers, its the norm, except when its dublin of course, that's just hooliganism. "

Frankly you are talking rubbish - maybe you have only ever been to Dublin games?

I find this thread ridiculous. Most of us follow the EPL and in that league we see fans constantly jeering each other yet we have a pronlem with it in the GAA. Why do people think GAA supporters should be perfect. I would much rather booing at a game than people acting in an aggressive way at a match.

I've been attending championship games since 1990, and as far as I can remember its been the norm for fans to boo the opposing teams free kicks, especially at the business end of the championship.
I never taught anything of it, as its been going on for as long as I can remember, even joining in myself back in the day. Its only recently that some folk have started highlighting it. Its part of the banter of the game now so get over yourselves!
I don't think the free takers do be crying themselves to sleep at night after hearing a few boos.
Boooooooooooooooooo!

Speak for yourself pk57! You are comparing Gaelic games with a different sport from a different country!
I for one, do not watch the over-rated, over-hyped, over-marketed EPL, with their over-paid, over-rated,
over-hyped players! Those clubs are basically corporations nowadays! The same cannot be said about the
GAA, whose amateur status and focus on the community are fundamental principles of the organisation.

Booing is aggressive by the way! Soccer has always attracted thugs; that's not to say that all soccer fans
are thugs, but the majority of thugs are soccer fans!

It's not the thread which is ridiculous!

This talk that booing is fine, "get over it"..."happens in soccer and other sports" (so this makes it ok?!) - is frankly pure hogwash!. The reason I am a proud GAA fan is precisely because it is not like soccer. As for the argument that there is nothing wrong with it, would any of the posters here go to an under 10 or under 12 game and boo the young lad or lassie from the opposing team when they are taking a free? After all booing is "part and parcel" of GAA according to some posters. The reason I started this thread was that I felt the behaviour of Cork supporters and the team set a very poor example on Sunday. If some GAA fan's moral compass is such that this is ok because there was no obvious violence amongst the supporters then I feel we have reached a fairly sad level!

That's one of the worst reasons I've ever seen for liking something

I would! And I have!
Only last week i was down the park at an under 10's blitz
I booed the life out of a few kids, called them all sorts! Stood behind the goals while they were talking frees and bared my bare arse. I called the 9 year old ref a w****r and i threw a 99 (flake and all) at the keeper as he was taking kick outs

And I dont regret a bit of it!

RIGHT!

Why?! Maybe you missed my point - its amateur - people play for their county for pride and not money - diving ( I know its creeping in!) and lack of hooliganism (the point of original post!)

With Respect Ciarra abu..

I am a Dublin fan. I have been attending Dublin games all my life the length and breath of the country. I spend my money doing this to support the city i am from and the players who represent it. Prior to games i like all fans have the craic and the banter. But as soon as that ball throws in the only thing i want from a selfish and greedy point of view is a Dublin win. As i said already. If a bit of boo-ing puts off an opposition free taker once or twice and we win the game by one or two points then i will feel as a fan who is there to not only to support and cheer on but to help my side then i will have done my job. As soon as that full time whistle goes, I will always respect the winning and losing team by applauding both sides off the pitch. I do not and have not used over the top verbal abuse of a player(s) of an opposition side and would never either. There is a line that must not be crossed. That line that isnt crossed is open to peoples interpretation. But to me boo-ing is nothing majorly bad and thats just my own personal opinion. I will never however boo my own team off the pitch as some "fans" have done.

And again with respect. Your from Kerry. I dont really mind if someone from outside of Dublin has a bad opinion of our fans. To me, They are few and far between. Gaelic football fans are amongst some of the best supporters in the world in any sport. This is proven by the lack of incidents at matches over the years. And Dublin fans are included in that..

Again with respect - Who died and made you pope ? The GAA is a wonderful organisation regardless of boo-ing. It sets itself on a level above everything else in my opinion for numerous reasons. I love the fact we can all go to games supporting any county and we can all get on and have a laugh together before, during, And after the game. I love the fact our players are normal everyday joe soaps who go to work the day after games. some may even be teaching your kids and my future kids. A bit of boo-ing doesnt look so bad on the organisation. Its normal in rivalry..

Has been happening since early 80s. It doesn't make any difference to a player. Pg should just rise above it. Graham geraghty used to get it all the time from every county. But he would soon shut them up. I was talking to him during the height of his career and asked him about it. He said if it didn't happen he wouldn't know what to do lol. Now think it bothered his kids towards later years. But then when your as good as graham was it was bound to happen. And he more often than not silenced them.
