Meath v Carlow

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Don't really mean to be having a go at David Gallagher as we all make mistakes. He is asked to do a job and is trying his best. The fault lies with management. Here we are, probably only second to Donegal at producing high quality (soccer) goalkeepers, many of which have proven themselves adaptable to GAA down the years, among our best and most consistent peformers and we settle for makeshift keepers. He may have done a good enough job in the past but the game has moved on. Far more professional approach nowadays with nothing left to chance where the big boys are concerned. You tweak every position possible to maximise your potential. It's disrespectful to all Gaelic football goalkeepers in the county not to treat the position with far more consideration. With so many players tracking back in the modern game it's not as if keepers will need to go on a long solo run before releasing the ball, so high fielding, shot stopping and most importantly accurate kickouts is paramount.

Where you at the game? In fairness look at the Meath bench, now most of those would walk on the Carlow team,YES we are far from the force we were,BUT we should be performing much better against the like of Louth,Carlow, etc

I fully agree,it's the managements fault, but when I heard Gally was coming back,I was very surprised, and proven correct

Cian Wards performance was alot better than his Wicklow performance but IMO if he was wearing a Purple and Gold Tones shirt yesterday he would have sored twice as much. Took the wrong option of not shooting and passing a few times when he had did all the hard work but maybe it's a confidence thing. His performance yesterday should go some way to increasing his confidence and this can only be good for him and Meath.

ziggy..i was at the game.. and secondly what i meant is playing the likes of carlow should be a foregone conclusion.. and that on a monday we shouldnt have to be writing so many comments about DRAWING...the comments should have been about our NEXT GAME..instead we are debating about a replay against carlow..its a throwback to the early 80s..

People have to stop deluding themselves Meath simply are not good enough. When you see then lucky to get a draw against Carlow you really see the how far the standard of football have gone down in Meath.

absolute waffle there mate! carlow were lucky to get the draw and if you were at the game you'd know that. meath threw it away and had a terrible performance yet they still didn't lose.

CKing (enough said)
he left the panel because he wasn't played against wicklow. very disappointed he made that decision.

Paddy O' Rourke (needed between the posts)
could really do with him and he's let a lot of us down by not committing.

Can anyone tell me how these players have become so bad in just two years?

In 2010 we drew against a Laois team that would have lost to Carlow yesterday and we end up winning Leinster. Things can be turned around so hopefuly every who can travel does next week the team needs the support to drag them over this line. I'm sick of a lack of Leinster semi's in the last 10 years and I'd really like a chance to set the record straight v Kildare.

lot of bull begin said here lads, carlow got a lucky draw with a horrific mistake and meath missed chance after chance to put the game to bed after 20 mins, they took their foot of the pedal and when gillespie got sent off it was always going to be tough with no one on murphy, they will bounce back and win next saturday but don't think for a second anyone who played yesterday didn't give 100% i saw joe and farrell sprinting back and wardy, they put in a big shift and it didn't click on the day, it happens to every team look at kerry sure, no need to panic we haven't gone back just a off day in front of the posts

Brian Farrell impressed again yesterday, Donal Keoghan looked quite assured, think we will beat them well the next day

I thought yesterday was a great example by a manger(luke dempsey) how to get the best out of a Bad bunch of players!

Carlow played out of there skin yesterday.....and we played like a team that had just landed 10 minutes before throw in!

I would love if the meath players were able to play like Brendan Murphy on the very edge of the rules but if we did we would not have any players after 10 minutes!

Anyway what i find funny we still nearly won and us playing absolutely rotten...just another 5% effort on top of playing rotten yesterday we would have won easily...Isn't great to get a boot up the hole like that and still not lose!

wakey wakey and Bettystown Royal, King was not at the Wicklow Game, that was established awhile back. he has not turned his back on the team nor does he need to man up, he has made his decision and has made the right one by the looks of things. Banty needs to go

prehaps ruddy from Seneschalstown, cunningham from duleek.... joe sheridan (alternative) moved into midfield and put reilly back into the forward line, joe is a handful in the air and is physically capable with regards to strenght to play there unlike reilly in my opinion.

The players and management obviously have more new found respect for Carlow and some of their players (post match) that some supporters seem to afford them. The bottom line is we performed poorly enough but were still comfortable throughout (2-3 point leads). Content to go through the motions and not tackle much, nor play as a team just a group of individuals. Lacked cohesion and intensity. The late goal make things look worse than they really are. If Carlow didn't score that (and granted both teams missed chances) then we wouldn't be hapving these post-mortems. I'm not here to defend Banty but I think he meant we are here to fight another day given the late goal. Better teams would have won the kickout and slotted over a point at the death to send up packing. What happened may be a blessing in disguise. We aren't ready to tackle Kildare and had we won that game yesterday, we might have been lulled into a false sense of security. This now gives us an opportunity to address certain issues and get another match under our belts.

For all the drama, circus and so on that goes with following Meath recently (especially after last nights soccer), it's good we have a local team who also have supporters who have a true sense of belonging and pride in their county. One we have a real passion for and always put first. Long may it continue win, lose or draw.

It shouldn't have been such a surprise that Carlow took us to the wire. It was flagged well in advance that they were going well in training and had upped the ante in their approach to their football. Give them some credit for preparing well. As for Banty, well let's say the reports of his preparations are a bit puzzling to say the least. I know he's my own clubman, but Caoimhin was missed badly.
