It seems Banty will play McA regardless and I don't know why? He was poor at corner back against Wicklow,so he decides to move our best and most natural CHB in Menton to the corner, and McA moves into the centre, far too loose here yesterday against an ordinary team. Joe does not look fit for me,and the keeper?? Well it's gone beyond the joke.

all the forward play is very individualistic, also yesterday we were not clinical, when there is a goal chance GO FOR IT,Gilsenan was a few yards from the goal went for a point(in which he missed),Tobin went for a point when he was clear on goal,Farrell played well, but Queeney was clear on goal at one stage and he ignored him and went for the point, now two of these were in the first half and if taken would have killed Carlow

1191346 For the next game mark Collins must be placed on the team, he offers far more than the likes of Meade, bray and Farrell- each there because of rep- new players need to be introduced and stop playin players out of tryin to not hurt feelings.... You play the best and not play footballers for there names.... Kerry play this way and I don't under stand the Meath way of playin footballers who don't hav the ability and the skill that others hav to offer,
Contender for stupidest post of the year.
Out of the 2 championship games played so far, you think Farrell shouldnt be there. Fairly safe to say that you werent at either game. Likewise with Meade, he's been very solid in the 2 games so far. Then you mention Bray. The best footballer on the Meath team, and you say he doesnt offer enough. What a joke of a comment.

Another really bad result when it is consider that Carlow finished ahead of only Kilkenny and London in Division 4 of the league. The reality is that we have too many players that are just too inconsistent, one game followed by a couple of bad ones.... every now and then when a player has a good game he is the flavour of the week but in reality we only have four or 5 consistent players. We have too many individuals...Brian Farrell played well yesterday but he clearly should have laid off the ball instead of kicking a point towards the end, it would have led to a one on one situation and a clear goal scoring opportunity.
The lack of a sub keeper on the panel is an accident waiting to happen and is the biggest joke I have come across, all due credit to JCL but he not a goalkeeper and never has been how he is a sub-keeper on an intercounty panel is laughable and a disgrace to all the good goalkeepers in the county. Too many players have fallen out with management or have fallen out of favour.
Crawford (although he owes the county nothing) Mark O' Sullivan (where did he disappear to?) CKing (enough said) Paddy O' Rourke (needed between the posts) Paddy Coakley (a way better option than JCL)
I dont think we are anywhere near fit enough and I think we would be eaten alive by the intensity and power of Kildare and Dublin. Joe Sherdian missed six weeks of training at a vital time and looks no where near full fitness...Cian Ward does not look fit enough either.

Gaz772, Meade and Farrell were two of the better performers yesterday and without Bray there it's no wonder the HF line were disfunctional. Collins got 20 minutes and didn't do much. He may be one for the future but deal with the present for the moment.
Banty made the major mistake of putting Menton in the corner. Why because he wants him to do a man-marking job on one corner forward, but the price you pay by playing McAnarney at CHB is that it leaves a huge gap down the middle. The end result Carlow midfielders and half forwards have license to run into this area largely uncontested and pick off long range scores. The cons far outweight the pros of playing Shane here.
Why was Gillespie not taken off sooner and get someone in there with a real work ethic. We will get even more scores too from Graham Reilly if he plays in the opposition's half of the field. And he will not be singled out so much for special treatment either.
Joe also should have been substituted also, every time he switched he became more irrelevant in the game. He is only up to FF now and stick with that. If things aren't working and he isn't getting suppply it's others fault. If he is and isn't making use of it, take him off.
It's clear Banty has his favourites and this is having a major negative impact on team selection and the lack of substitutions or faith, game time for others. He probably knows who was for and against his continuation and this is playing out now to some degree in his championship selections.

Meath people are deluded to think that yesterday's result was a freak result. It wasn't. Meath are now an average D3 team. There is little difference between D3&4. I believe that Carlow were the better side and kicked away their chance to advance. Maybe now is the perfect time to exit the championship rather than suffering a mauling from Kildare in the semi final

Do people have a complete blind spot for Graham Reilly or what is the story?
Apart from his scores (which are top notch) in my opinion he does absolutely nothing for the team and continually lets opposition players walk / jog / run straight past him to join attacks. More often then not, he is looking straight at them and is completely oblivious to the problem. Has to be one of the most frustrating footballers to watch.
Clearly the Meath team are in no position to allow any player such a luxury where he can be completely absolved of any defensive duties just because he kicks a few nice scores to the extent that he only has about three minutes of meaningful impact on a game.
On a side note, another top class performance from Kevin Reilly. Great attitude, doggedness, determination and everything you would expect from a Meath player.

You wont win a derby by bringing donkeys to the track and sadly in my opinion this is what meath are doin. We have many players (young) who can offer so much. Banty is not the manager of us- we need fresh blood in all the major areas of the field. Come on graham geraghty is stil on the panel. Graham reilly is also needed in the forward line more so even if he was effective against wicklow in midfield, surely in the whole county of meath we have midfielders than resorting to a half forward to fill in the boots. I dont know how anyone can say players played well in this match- carlow ruled the park in the second half. A 4th devision less than average team who last yr meath people were laughing as they beat Louth. Some people have to open there eyes and see the big picture here!!!!

I agree this is our one area(midfield) were I believe we cannot really improve on,with the loss of O'Rourke and Ward. Ward has his problems but would compete better than Gillespie. Joe and Kev Reilly would do well at midfield, but they are needed elsewhere

Why is everyone so upset? Banty was delighted with the result. They all were, he said! As for the captain selection, Banty will pick him from the few who voted for him at the meetings. Great to see the difference the two additions to the management team have made! Bring on Kilkenny....footballers that is. The hurlers would probably beat us in football because they are a united and well-led bunch. Can anyone tell me how these players have become so bad in just two years?

If all players are available for selection I think we need to go with this (up front at least).
Graham Reilly ... Stephen Bray ... Paddy Gilsenan as our half forward line. One as wing forward, making pacey runs and taking scores. The other with playmaking ability and delivering quality ball into the full forward line and the other really mobile working the forty to provide a link between defense and attack. And for God's sake start delivering kick ball out of defense to mobile pacey half forwards who will always be showing for ball.
Brian Farrell ... Joe Sheridan ... Cian Ward in the full forward line. Cian and Stephen can switch around during the course of a game (mixing it up and taking the odd breather) and if Joe isn't effective (which I think he would be in this line up) Jamie Queeney is the most obvious replacement off the bench.
Brian Meade in midfield with either Tom Walsh or Peadar Byrne alongside to start.
With Kevin Reilly and Brian Menton adding solidity in the centre of the defense.
So now the $64,000 question ... corner backs and wing backs. Tobin, Lenihan, Keoghan are young and have the legs to track back and also comfortable carrying the ball out of defense. Harrington (and King if brought back) the experience to do the job. Micky Burke still plenty to offer. So long as our back lines (mostly consisted of half-backs) don't have similar weaknesses or limitations as each other which make it easier for the opposition. Suggestions?

My team for the next day..
1.Me/Jinxie/Royaldunne/McQullien (whoever really) 2.Keoghan 3.Reilly 4.Lenihan 5.Burke 6.Menton 7.Tobin 8.Meade 9.Walsh (if fit) 10.Byrne 11.Bray(unlikely fit,if not on bench yesterday),if not Cian Ward 12.Reilly 13.Ward 14.Joe(last chance to prove fitness),if not Queeney 15.Farrell
When goal chances arise go for it

I must say though Banty clearly is not a Lenihan fan,has been very harsh on the young lad,who was our best player against Kildare last year until he went off injured
