For the county which supposedly has one of the weakest followings I think Cork have the biggest Football and Hurling Attendances so far this year and compared to other non-double header games the attendances at the Pairc have been far bigger than the rest.

Granted I can't see many going to the football final now but maybe some of the posters who were knocking their support earlier in the year should take note. I agree that there should only be one big stadium built in each province but surely its makes sense in Munster for that stadium to be built in Cork. To me it makes sense to build a proper state of the art stadium in Cork and maybe forget about squandering the money on other grounds around the province. Thurles is fine and all but its in the middle of nowhere really and the GAA would be much better served by having a decent stadium in a population centre like Cork. Pairc ui chaomh is the worst stadium I have ever been in and it badly needs to be redeveloped or ideally levelled as soon as possible.

23 thousand for kerry match was down 20 thousand on last year and 32 for cork v tipp was good i agree but that was a realy big match for cork ye were always going to get that crowd there,as you say the match against clare will tell you how corks football support is holding up,the attendance at it could be very low.
yeah i think the gaelic grounds in limerick is the biggest waste of money the gaa have ever invested, half of limericks league matches dont even be played and they never get a crowd look at the two championship matches 2thousand and 4 thousand and it holds 50 thousand why they built it that big is beyond me as it raely gets used for big matches you surely could play an all ireland football quarter final there if the likes of kerry v mayo or cork v galway came up

Why build a 50k stadium in Cork, Thurles is in the centre of the province and gets loads of matches so a new stadium in Cork would rival that white elephant in Limerick (which I have never ever seen a game with even a decent crowd in) as the GAA's biggest waste of money in their history.
There will not be a bigger crowd at a game than the one yesterday and if it couldnt be a full house then there is no need for a bigger stadium.

You think the Gaelic Grounds is bad?

Try Pearse Stadium.

You generally try to built in population centres. Cork actually is near enough the centre of Munster, I think the geographical centre of Munster is somewhere around Mallow!! And in terms of population centre Cork is much more centrally located than Thurles. I suppose the point I am making is the Munster Council will have the make plans for the future, going forward something has to be done to the pairc anyway (money will be spend here regardless as its a h&s issue) so I reckon its makes sense to focus on developing Munsters main Stadium as the new one in Cork and not in Thurles spend the money on Cork as you will be able to draw bigger crowds here.
To me it makes sense to focus on Cork as the city needs the stadium anyway so do it right and make it centre for Munster GAA

I disagree Cork have fantastic support for the hurlers and if that was Clare,Limerick or Waterford playing Sunday I would have expected 30,000 as well as it is Cork hurling in Championship. That is what alot of Cork people gear up for the whole year.It also helps that Cork hurling supporters are in east Cork which is near to the pairc compared to west Cork which is the football supporters base.I think we will really find out what our support is like when we play Offaly in the qualifiers in Cork.I would expect 20,000+ for the game though. As for the Munster final it is big ask for people in Castlehaven, Bantry and Skibbereen all football strongholds to drive the trip to limerick which would be a 4 hour plus trip just to see Cork hammer Clare.

Wont be expecting too big a crowd tomorrow in clones. Very early throw in for a Saturday, plenty will be at work. Add to that the fact it's televised and is 2-3 hours away for most Donegal people. I dont expect more than 18-20,000 at the game. Which would be the largest crowd so far in Ulster but wont look like much in a ground like Clones. The Town end goal will have a few behind the barriers and the other end will be deserted.

What does Celtic Park in Derry hold? Perhaps that would have been a better choice than Clones as it would have been a lot easier to get to for both counties.

Actually the best place would have been Enniskillen but I dont think it would hold enough. Clones would be the next prefered option as the bulk of Donegal and Tyrone fans are within 75 mins of Clones. Both Omagh and Ballyshannon are about an hour away.

Its an awful time to have a match at on a Saturday. A 7pm throw-in would have suited a lot of people better. But, I still expect there to be a big crowd tomorrow for the game and I would say it will attract a lot of neutrals too. Lets be honest there's a lot of people in Ulster and around Ireland who see tomorrows game as the Ulster Final so expect a big attendance.

Very bad attendance in Croker today for a double header, only 14000 more than the hurling in pairc ui chaoimh last weekend. I thought the Dubs always lined the coffers of the gaa or so we are told by Dub supporters. Where were they today?

that was like an all ireland final for cork against tipp
just under 50k at croker today hardly what you call a bad crowd now is it
neither of last years all ireland hurling semi finals got that

It wasn't an all Ireland final though hill it was a Munster semi final. Yes it was a very bad attendance for 4 teams in Leinster semi finals. The Dubs like to talk about how ye always bring the largest support, well so far this year ye haven't and you cannot argue with that. Now I'm sure for the Leinster final ye will get 50 thousand plus and we will be lucky to get 40 thousand plus for the Munster hurling final however this will be down to the Munster council not accepting Waterfords request to move the game to Thurles which was crazy as both sides would have been very happy with this. As a result many Tipp and Waterford fans will now not travel to Cork for it.

we have brought the biggest support this year though.
we had 3 home league macthes that had an average of 33 thousand at them
we played mayo twice in castlebar and there was 10 thousand and 12 thousand at them games.
we have played two championship matches with 31 and half thousand and 48 thousand what other team has had more support this year?

the tipp double header that involved the kerry footballers had 22 thousand so cant see were your coming from
