70,000 in Croker, 30,000 in Clones, 25,000 in Killarney. They're great crowds & it's good to see.

There was 35,000 at Clones for the Ulster Final, 20,000 of which were from Donegal. We will have big support in Croker on Sunday.

38,000 was a very good crowd yesterday. There was a good atmosphere & banter in Thurles.

I'd expext 15,000 to travel from donegal, similar number from Kildare, perhaps closer to the 20 mark and around 5k each from Cork and Kerry.

You will be lucky to see 5 thousand from Cork on Sunday I would say. With about 20,000 in Thurles yesterday and an All-Ireland hurling semi-final to come against Galway in a few weeks, there won't be many make the journey. If, and it is a big if, Cork and Kerry meet in the All-Ireland semi-final I hope the GAA have the common sense to make it an all ticket affair in either Killarney, Cork (they may decide to toss for it) or Limerick.

I'd say there'll be a massive crowd on both Saturday and Sunday , you wont have those pathetic scenes witnessed at Croke park last year for the Limerick/Kerry and Mayo/Cork games thats for sure

There's 500K people in Cork, pretty poor support really

One way of looking at it I suppose, though it is quite cursory and you have not put much thought into it. There are approx 250 GAA clubs in Cork. Let us say, the average membership is 100 people (the larger clubs may have up to 500 but there are dual clubs that double count etc so let us say about 100). Now if we multiply those numbers we get an active GAA community of about 25,000 (the number might be distorted slightly by many young children not paying membership but these are dependents and unlikely to be able to head off to Croker on their own). If approximately 20,000 went to Thurles yesterday, I would say that was excellent support (considering that there were a few championship games in Cork yesterday-including my own club, hence I and many others did not make the journey).

Saying that there is 500k in Cork and we can only muster 5,000 for an All-Ireland quarter final is not much of a statement either. You can pontificate all you want, but most people in Cork are either not interested or have only a passing interest in GAA and would never even consider attending an All-Ireland football quarter final. If we were to get the final, then 50,000 will be looking for tickets. If we don't get there then most of those extra people won't be crying. They will just wait until the next big sporting event like a Heineken Cup semi-final or the likes.

The GAA know all this so instead of burying their heads in the sand, common-sense should prevail and anything but an All-Ireland final between Cork and Kerry should be played at a Munster venue. A bigger crowd in a smaller stadium makes a better atmosphere. I am sure most Kerry people will agree. Anyway, we are not there yet. Kildare and Donegal victories at the weekend (but likely) will be at Croke Park and will bring a large crowd.

I actually thought given the proximity of the 4 competing counties yesterday, the crowd would have been bigger. It looked more on the telly anyway. How much was it in yesterday?

Our minors play Roscommon Sunday in Croker at 12pm. Would it not have made more sense to have the Kerry game first at 2pm?

you mentioned 5000. the population is 5000k+, sorry if you dont think it's much of a statement in your opinion

You can pontificate all you want.

The fact that you disagree with doesn't quite negate my point to pontification.

Expecting 5 thousand from a county with a population that size is a poor average compared to some other counties, regardless of whatever terms you apply to it.
nothing personal

That's what I was thinking. It would make much more sense.

the kilkenny turnout was shocking by the looks of it. i'd much rather be from a county like cork or tipp than kilkenny. must be fairly boring going to their games and not an ounce of excitement out of the county unless it's an all ireland final. surely they'll turn out for the semi against their rivals tipp.

talking about pooe support dhorse, if meath were as badly supported as laois there would have been around 4,000 at our match. can't understand how so few people turnout out considering how good laois's chances of winning were.

Were expecting 17,000 for Kildare i guess a few decided to stay at home. Poor turn outs for the other games indeed.
