Promoting the Championship

Noticed some TV ad on UTV of all places last night. Think the slogan is 'There's nothing like being there'. Only thing is, it only promoted the football, not a mention of hurling

I know snuf will prob be attacked but he is dead right. It's easy to point that the Dubs have the population and a major sponsor but they are so progressive in terms of promotion. The GAA marketing people themselves don't bother doing a thing when the Dubs are rolling out as they know Vodafone and the Hill16.ie crew will do it, and do it better.
Like I honestly do not know how the Marketing dept can justify a salary as nearly everything decent that's done is done by sponsors and on top of that outside PR agencies are hired by sponsors to do work on ads, etc.
Leinster rugby are very good at seizing a chance. Best example was a few years ago flights were cancelled and passengers were stranded in Dublin. Leinster were playin some Celtic Lge game that was nowhere near selling out so next thing Leo the Lion was sent off to the airport to give tickets to the stranded passengers.
The GAA need to be more opportunistic and not be having to go through five different sub-committees to jump on a chance like that.

Was it a GAA add or a football championship sponsor. Either way, advertising/promotion will need to be done close to the event to have any effect on attendances. is there any championship hurling on in ulster this weekend/ I would think that UTV's audience would tend to be more ulstwer based, TV 3 show most of the same programmes in the south

The media bias against the GAA has become more obvious over the last couple of years. They love rugby because it's the fashionable sport even though most weekends throughout the league if you add up attendances there was more people going to Gaelic games than rugby yet come Monday one rugby game would get more coverage then 20 odd Gaelic games. The first live game of the championship is on this Sunday and if we're not careful it could be used against us. The GAA should do everything possible to ensure Galway and Roscommon fans come out and the stadium is full. Even if means reducing ticket prices or offering more concessions like 5 euro entrance to the terraces behind the goals. It might mean taking a hit financially but a sold out stadium for the first game would be great advertisement.

The Championship is promoting other sports. It's not going to get interesting until the qualifiers. There isn't a big enough carrot to be too bothered by winning a provincial crown or not. That's not to take away that it is still a huge honour but it depends on teams ambitions.

That's ridiculous legendzxix, for the majority of counties winning the province is all we can dream off while the qualifiers just delays our exit with nothing we can realistically win. What your saying might be true in Kerry and a few other counties but for the vast majority the summer is about trying to win their province.

Cut the Prov field to 24 (L8, U8. M4, C4) and designate 8 others to the AI Championship 1st Rd (AIC1, formerly the Qualifiers)
The 24 play in 3 regions - they are, 2 Provs (Lein, Uls) and 1 Conference ("Munsacht, with 2 sets of 4-team prov SFs)
Opening Rd has more of a bang, especially Uls QFs.
Format unfolds quite well - 24+8; 12+16; 6+14; 3 byes+10; AI QFs etc.
Note - Phase 3 (6+14), incl the Conf Final betw M and C champs, as well as L and U Prov Finals.
Could you mkt this better?
