Without trying to be smart, did you ever think ye just dont have what it takes?

How far do ye think ye can go? The optimism has been based on a couple of underage teams who were successful, you need a lot more than that to establish yourself as a top eight senior side.

I really think its bleak for Roscommon, cant see how youre going to get to where ye think your going to get.

Ye like to think your up there with Mayo and if not will be up with them soon, this is rubbish. Mayo since 2004 have competed in 11 all Ireland finals at different levels, two senior county, two at 21, three minor, three league (top flight) and one senior club. Now i take it o the chin two wins is a bad return from that, granted but my point is we are just about regarded as a second tier county with that fairly decent record, Roscommon are so far behind that type of thing its frightening from a ross point of view.

Everyone apart from Cathal Cregg were passengers yesterday. The corner that Galway are turning away from is that of being a sham team e.g. Mayo giving us a right hammering last year and a team with no direction, no spirit and no fight. A confident Galway hasnt been around for years so beware Tyrone. No All Ireland this year but you never know

We never deny that we are behind mayo and galway.
We as supporters just want to see our team improve each year and play to their best capabilities.(like every other county in ireland)
Roscommon did not do that yesterday.

Galway were fired up for that one, and with everyone expecting a close game, they really got stuck in. I suspect the Rossies poor performance was what caused the Galway lads to lose a bit of direction towards the end of the first half; they were probably just as shocked as the rest of us at how easy they were running through their men!

I don't think anyone foresaw that capitulation and while I'm obviously delighted from a Galway persepctive, I feel sorry for the Roscommon lads. They are better than that, and I hope they can pull it together for the qualifiers.

Sligo will be a whole different kettle of fish. We were a bit of an unknown quantity going into the Rossies game, but we've now shown our hand and there's no-one with as much insight into Galway football as Walsh, so I'm fully expecting him to figure out a game plan that will exploit our weaknesses. A win against Sligo is absolutely not a foregone conclusion and those who are already talking about a Connacht final in Pearse Stadium should calm down a wee bit.

Poor display from the Rossies. If they were playing us they'd be bursting men all around them would be kicking points from all angles. Yesterday they couldn't even hold on to the ball and some didnt seem half interested. Galway seem to be a nicely balanced team. I don't know if Sligo will be fit for them. What Sligo will show up? The one that went out tamely to us last year or the one that could come close to beating a great Kerry team. If Galway get by that, they have the advantage on Mayo as they will have only beaten London, I'm assuming they'll do a revenge job for last years scare as well.

Maroon13 - why should Tyrone beware of a confident Galway team. Think a confident..but more importantly consistent Galway team most teams would be wary of.

I was very surprised by Roscommon's poor performance yesterday considering they won Connacht a few years ago. As a previous poster mentioned they gave the ball away far to easily, some inexcusable shooting for Senior intercounty level or for any level for that matter and couldn't have been less interested than if it was a challenge game. They throw in the towel before half time. Galway were impressive though they wern't tested yesterday and a team to watch out for later in the championship.

I see the two Mayo WUMS 51longago,Paddy are out in force on this thread. Mayo played/won a Junior Connacht title yesterday while both were on here instead all excited because Roscommon lost another game grow up lads remember it's easy to kick someone when they are down.

As for the match very disappointed we are much better than what we showed yesterday. Management, players had a really bad the office but sometimes you have to take defeats like that to learn. We are still a young team Cregg,O'Gara,Shine,Carty,Domican are all 23 or under & with Compton,C.Shine,D Shine,Corcoran,Brogan etc to come in we will have brighter & better day ahead.

Surprised at yesterdays match. Fancied Roscommon to sneak-it and make further progress on the last couple of years, and under-age success. Galway's form against Kildare (who are genuine AI contenders in my book) seems to be genuine form.

I fancied Roscommon to pip Galway and then come unstuck against Sligo, who are still kind of gunning for them after the upset two years ago. Sligo when playing at their best were probably the top team in Connacht over recent years - but too capable of under-performing on the day and one Connacht title is a couple of short of what they should have won. I feel they have lost some of their running power, and while they may have had enough to beat Roscommon, its hard to see them beating Galway on that form. Still, they will give them plenty and Galway unlikely to be as good again or have as easy as time.

Roscommon - are better than that, just didn't get going.

Mayo will easily dispose of Leitrim or London (who must fancy finally getting a scalp in Connacht). Galway v Mayo......on the day I expect.

Roscommon were atrocious yesterday how they recover from that latest set back is anyone guess. For Galway job done & they only have to win two homes game to win the Connacht title now! easier said than done but they are more than capable.

Yesterday was the worst day of my lifetime as a follower of the Rossies.I dont say that lightly because we have had some stinkers in the past 35 years.I had to leave after 45 minutes yesterday.I could'nt watch anymore. As I was walkin the short walk back to town I took a quick glance back at the Hyde and felt a lump in me throat.Has it ever been this demoralising I thought?
Castlebar 09 we thought was the nadir, but that was in a venue we are used to gettin a pastin. This was the Hyde. This was Galway.A largely unproven Galway team.We felt we had their measure.Could'nt have been more wrong.Im not accepting that Management and Players just had a bad day at the office.I've been hearing mutterings that the Players reckon the Management have no idea at this level.Heard this just before the game again from a reliable source. It certainly looked that way on the field and with the calls made on the line all day.
On the other hand players unable to perform the basic skills of the game such as tryin to pick the ball up,catchin a clean ball overhead uncontested and hand-passin 5 metres can have little complaint with Management.
Where do we go from here?Well it's May 21.All other counties can look forward to the C'ship with a degree of optimism. Our year is already over. Before it even began. You would think we are used to this, but it does'nt make it any easier. We'll hoo-ray the Minors if they have a good year then sit back and wait for them to make the seamless transition to Senior where they can get their fair share of heartbreak,hard-ship and whiipings at the hands of Mayo and Galway. With the notable exceptions of a few, same as it ever was.
As Johnnie Logan sang,What's Another Year?

Very honest genuine post, all rivalry to one side, i feel your pain.

I remember as a oung lad back in 93 getting the most horrible humiliation off cork in a semi final, it was a feeling of total devastation because of the manner of the loss. Hearing the sunday game song comin on in Harrys on the way home, the tears nearly began to flow as everyone around me was writing mayos obituary, @ thats it now we're finished, there will be no trips to croker for twenty yrs" grown men were saying this.

My point is we were back in 96-99 three yrs after contesting all ireland finals with arguably our best teams since 51.

Its not in my nature to be sympathetic to Roscommon but i will be honest here because of your genuine post, the primrose and blue are far from buried, they will be a team in the next 2-3 years. ( newton is not the man though, not assertive enough personality)

i think roscommons problem may mirror our own in carlow, to many young players with not enough older more experienced players, the danger is that if you take too many beating like yesterday it will leave scars that won't heal, i have always liked roscommon, they play an attractive brand of football maybe lack that ruthless streak though

What has happened to Donie Shine?? He seems to be only a shadow of what he was 2 years ago. I think Cregg is the only class forward Roscommon possess at the moment and this is worrying

It's called having a bad game happens to every player. Shine scored 8 points in the Connacht final vs Mayo last July & also played well vs Tyrone in Croke park. He's only 23 the best is yet to come from him.

Kilbride is another class forward but was well marked by probably the best full back in connacht. So much was expected Darren McDermott but also gave a poor showing on Sunday while Cregg,O'Gara both impressed.

In the next game Des Newton has the opportunity to select U-21s Donie Smith,Compton & C. Shine that alone will improve us.

I have my doubts about Donie Smith and his ability to step up to senior intercounty football, yet.

Won't know until he's given a chance. Was on the bench last Sunday & couldn't be worse than John Rogers.

its the big one on Sunday, Leitrim and London, not really heard too much from either camp. If London can produce the type of performance they did against Mayo last year I think they can do it. Problem is whenever they are tipped to finally win a game in Connacht its normally against Leitrim and Leitrim come over and win handily. With the quality of players that have been coming over the last couple of years I think it is time for them to finally do it.

I have a feeling this will be a tough one for London Rosineri. I'd love to see them make a breakthrough and beat Leitrim, but honestly i think Leitrim have too much for them.

Going to be a great weekend for football though. Hopefully the weather holds up and hopefully it's a momentous day for London and they can get the win.
