Hard Luck to Leitrim.
Mayo are favorites now to win Connacht.

Sure Mayo are street's ahead of Sligo, with part of Sligo inside your border and player's from Roscommon playing for them, Mayo should have won Sam with the pick they have.
The final's Mayo were part of are really easily forgetful and wouldn't rate with some of the great final's.
Having said that I'd support any Connacht team after Sligo are out but Mayo will always fall on their sWORDS .

Lol, thats some post, there old hand. Not to worry, i never act smart with people who clearly need a hug.

Was disappointed with the minors today, although we won, looked very suspect, can't see us beating a rampant roscommon (if they beat galway} .

Todays game was the biggest advertisement for a two tier championship, it didnt feel right and i'm not one to feel sorry for the opposition but i looked at a couple from Leitrim as we banged in the third, the look of total humiliation on their faces was not pretty. Its not right, if it were boxing, Leitrim would of been declared dead ten mins into the second half and only for a couple of overhit passes, mayo would of scored anothe r couple of goals.

Sligo will bring a different challenge , thats for sure but i still believe we will win pullin up by 5/6 points.

On another note i have a few quid to collect when i get back to dublin tmrw, backed mayo to win by 16 pts plus and had freeman to score at anytime, gutted i didnt put him to score first for over double the odds.

Barry Moran played mighty, ff line is a minefield to pick for the final, AF didnt set the world on fire, varley and conroy were lively when they came in. Andy was good but first twenty mins i thought he made a few mistakes.

Maigheo abu and croke park bound once again.

Yeah would have to feel sorry for Leitrim never nice to lose by that margin. They were doing ok untill Mayo got two goals against the run of play was one way traffic after that. Mayo like our minors haven't learnt much from the win. Fair play to Mayo they did what they had to do & were expected to do.

I'm hearing Hyde park is in the balance for the Connacht now. Last years slattery report cut the attendance & unless the cut is adjourned the Connacht final will be staged in a windy Salthill.

What are you getting yourself upset about? Mayo are the best county in Connacht by about 300 miles.

What words are these then? That mayo would beat leitrim well? We really pushed the boat out on that one alright, and how wrong we were! If you are complaining about counties talking themselves up then why not look closer to home? Arent sligo, 'on their day the best team in connacht'? Having nothing at all to back it up doenst seem to matter on that front...
The reality is anyone who was saying leitrim were going to make a game of it, obviously did not actually know too much about the current situation leitrim find themselves in. If it were me, I would not have the neck to be on here having another pop 5 minutes after being totally found out as a football spoofer.

Positives from yesterday were the performance of Barry Moran, Kevin McLoughlin and Lee Keegan... We took our scores well and probably could have scored 1 or 2 more goals... Negative was when Leitrim were funnelling players back in the 1st half we struggled to get through their defence.. Our delivery of ball into the FF line was not great..The blame here is shared between the player kicking poor ball in and also the forward not showng well enough.. We relyed on runs from deep from Vaughan, Keegan and others to make headway.. This will not work so easily V the big teams like Cork Dublin Donegal etc. as their first up tacklers will be physically stronger so we will have to let the ball in more... and the inability of some of our FF line to win their own ball would be a worry..

Mayo look like lightweights. Donegal look like heavyweights. Both teams can play good football, but if it were boxing, they'd be in different divisions. Reading Joe Brolly yesterday, he's predicting that every team in the country will be sucked into 'the black hole', that is Donegal 2012.

pope: I wouldn't be taking much heed of what Brolly says, granted he is not wrong that Donegal have a powerful team but his sensationalist tripe he comes out with it , is often off the mark, Tyrone will give them a fair crack next weekend.

I remember running up to the clubhouse(for a swift one) at half time in 2004 at castlebar Mayo v Galway, brolly was goin to town on Ciaran mac and the mort, called them all sorts, said they were milmaids who should be taken off if Mayo were to get near Galway, well lets just say the milkmaids left Brolly and Galway with egg on their face come the final whistle.

Ara brolly. He is a poor analyst at the best of times. Who have donegal beaten? A very average cavan team and a derry team that looked like they had been out on the batter the night before. If donegal were so good and had put in so much work then why werent they contesting even a semi-final in the league? Dont get me wrong, they are a good outfit, but this crap brolly is talking is a load of rubbish.

They will be less than 1/4 if the venue is McHale park.

Sorry pal, i didn't "already" know it wasn't McHale Park. A little birdie told me this morning that anywhere with standing has been greatly reduced by some safety report done after last years championship , now this would make McHale park the most suitable because of its state of the art concrete seating arrangements.

I'm not saying its going to be McHale park , i'm only tryin to guess the situation and tbh i can't see Sligo agreeing to Castlebar but on the other hand 18k for a CF say in the hyde with maybe Ross minors involved too, is a disaster .

The meeting last night of the connacht council was supposed to decide on the venue, now no decision was made so that also points to something imo as if it was just a simple hyde or salthill, surely it would of been decided last night, maybe trying to negotiate a deal for mchale park? Im only guessing here now.

51... Why would the Hyde only have 18K?

The Connacht Council are currently exploring the idea of McHale Park as the venue for the Connacht Final but they have yet to get agreement on this matter from both the Mayo and Sligo camps according to Midwest Radio

Something going on alright - Mayo's choice I believe (of neutral venue) - you'd expect to be Hyde Park. If problem with Roscommon, then the only option is Salthill. Of course the problem for all concerned Connacht / Mayo / Sligo here is attendance (due to distance) and of course Sligo probably being quite comfortable there, having won there already.

If there were a few readies involved for Sligo GAA to agree to McHale Park that would be something; but it wouldn't be worth it if Kevin Walsh and the team were not agreeable to it.

Interesting.

51longago, u could do with a break from this forum

Yes Mayo are deserved favourites going into the game but Sligo love being underdogs and will fight for everything. I'd like to see what Horan will do tactically on stopping ball getting to Marren & kelly. Does he man mark or put in a sweeper and leave Brehany to roam?

Also apparently also hearing hyde will not be staging final so will be Pearce unless somehow Mayo board convince Sligo to go to Castlebar but with Sligo's recent terrible record in Castlebar, can't see that happening

I wud love to see it in Galway and it really isn't that far to travel

_____________

The Slattery Report last year reduced Hyde park to 18k.

Latest is Sligo being offered 50% of the gate in McHale Park - they may accept that? Mchale park would be the easier option for supporters but I guess its up to the Sligo team. Thet are no strangers to Mchale park and I am sure would love to beat us in our own backyard.

Money makes the the world go round of course Sligo will accept that offer.
