Connacht Championship 2012

"So, 51, if they can't hold finals, why would they have a home and away arrangement which extends to finals? Think about it from a Sligo (or Leitrim) perspective."

I'm not pointing out anything to do with the fairness of it or anything else but the facts on how it works, now lets leave it at that, it must be clear to everyone by now.

"mayo romp to victory lol"

But they won't & deep down you know it!

Again i'm not going to deny i think we will win Connacht , maybe not romp to victory as such but i do believe we will have far too much for both Leitrim and Sligo.

Sligo are not a bad side and yesterday evening they proved that, tbh i didn't think they had that kind of a performance in them but Galway fb line was beat far too easy.

If you want me to even put more on the line as in terms of predictions, i seriously think Mayo have a great chance of going far this year, maybe even put it up to one of the bigger names in a semi.

I'm not talking about fairness either, just telling you the reason why the final won't be in Castlebar, i.e. neutral venue for Sligo or Leitrim for all finals

I'll apologise if I'm wrong, I trust you'll do the same? Let's see.

2010 wasn't just bad in hindsight. We all knew about the problems in Mayo before championship. At this stage in 2010 we had been hammered out the gate in a league final, a defeat we were never going to recover from in time for championship. Again I stress that it wasn't just the football on the pitch that made 2010 the worst year I can remember in Mayo football. There were serious off-field issues that year.

And the margins of defeat don't matter in the slightest. I'd be more disappointed with a 1 point defeat to Longford than a big defeat to Galway or Derry any day. If you can't see that gaa_lover (the man from nowhere), there's not much point in this discussion.

No i don't. Sligo were focused on New york if they weren't they would have produced a performance like Galway did v New York in 2010.

Again, if you choose to believe this, that is your issue. Personally, Im not that foolish.

Killer, 2010 NFL final Cork 1-17 Mayo 0-12 2012 NFL final Cork 2-10 Mayo 0-11 not much of difference TBH & Master with that type of mindset don't ever get into GAA management.

Gaa_lover, will you stop using scorelines alone to judge a game. Bloody hell if you can't see that Mayo were completely played off the park in 2010 then there's no hope for you. We were never in the game. The 2012 final was a close game until Corks second goal.

fair play to silgo wat a performance if anyone said before the match silgo wu beat galway u wud have laughed but a real hard fought win from silgo an it will give the weaker counties a lift like ourselves as we prepare to take on kildare. we will have it hard to win or even get within 5 points of them but we all can have hope.

Sickened.

Fair play to Sligo. They came to Salthill and played us off the park. Best of luck to them in the rest of the championship.

Now we just have to regroup and have a right good go at the qualifiers. We haven't won a game outside of Connacht for a while and now is time to prove some people wrong. We can still make an impact in the championship. Up the Tribesmen!!!!!

And he's right not to.

Spoke to a member of Sligo County Board Executive yesterday about this.
The current arrangement was put in place sometime in the 1990s, when the GAA introduced rules regarding capacity for provincial finals.

Galway, Mayo and Roscommon have an agreement that finals between them are played on a home and away basis.
Sligo and Leitrim did not sign up to this agreement, and so any finals involving Sligo or Leitrim are played at a neutral venue. Hence, Sligo Galway in 2002 was played in Castlebar, and the next final meeting between the two (2007) was played in Hyde Park.

Not sure who to believe.. Kevin walsh made a comment in the media that if it was to be Mayo in the final then Sligo would be heading into the Lions den... which sounds like mchale park to me...

Are you serious? You're a liar or else your mate is a pure spoofer. The game will be in Castlebar.

51longago have you been under a rock or something? everyone knows only Mayo,Galway & ourselves get home or away Connacht finals. It has been agreed many moons ago that Leitrim,Sligo would get neutral finals.

Good man rossie, you have not an ounce of ammunition to throw at us about football so you see an opportunity here to attack over me gettin it wrong over the venue. Jesus wept.
Oh and you say everyone, yet most posters didn't know either way. Pundits, players and the Sligo management were under the impression it was going to be Castlebar if Mayo beat Leitrim.

Like i said on another post, i apologise for been so flippant about it, i was wrong and hold my hands up, i was full sure i was right.

Not the first or last time you will be wrong 51longago. You jump in with comments without thinking most of the time.

Fair play on being man enough to hold the hands up - there's plenty on here that wouldn't.

Just be careful in future about calling people liars....
