Aiden Walsh & Ciaran Sheehan of present Cork Football squad are as good at Hurling (if not better) as Football. Babs Keating of Tipp was also an outstanding footballer but Tipp Football was weak when he was in his prime. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 20/04/2012 14:36:26 1156645 Link 0 |
Eamon Cregan played both for Limerick. Was on a Limerick football team which beat Cork in 65 champioship? Southsham (Limerick) - Posts: 752 - 20/04/2012 15:03:14 1156660 Link 0 |
Its a pity he failed to acknowledge his trainer Canon Bertie Troy, the man who trained Cork to 3-in-a-row. Canon Troy did exceptional work to develop the Cork team from underage level to a triple All-Ireland winning team. I thought it left a lot to be desired. If im not mistaken i think the only national medal that Jimmy Barry Murphy is missing is an All Ireland U21 Football medal. Otherwise he would have a complete set. richiej (UK) - Posts: 1430 - 20/04/2012 16:45:22 1156739 Link 0 |
The greatest dual player is Brian Murphy of Nemo Rangers. He won minor, u-21 and senior in both codes, along with colleges medals, Railway Cup medals and Munster and AI club football medals. Not surprising, I suppose, that no one should remember him as he played an unfussy but efficient role at corner back in both codes, nothing spectacular, but absolutely safe and dependable. JBM was our guest speaker last year at our dinner dance. What a gent, he was telling me his son plays soccer over here for Rochdale. Jimmy was a very good soccer player himself too. The man was gifted and 1 of life's true gentleman, if only there were more like him around..... Got to have been the best!!!! Mancirish (UK) - Posts: 2200 - 20/04/2012 18:30:02 1156798 Link 0 |

One thing doh I didn't like about the new show they just do the interviews in studios, I use to like when they showed them around there club or farm or work or with the family etc anyone agree? clondalkindub (Dublin) - Posts: 9926 - 20/04/2012 20:14:28 1156860 Link 0 |

Lar Foley has to be up there Dublins greatest dual player in my opinion. He won 12 Dublin Championships in football 4 in Hurling for St.Vincents. Won 5 Leinster titles and 2 All Irelands in football and 1 Leinster in Hurling losing the final in 1961 to in my opinion the greatest tipp team of modern era by one score. A true gentleman aswel. If the club championship was in existance in the 1960's he would have won far more. dubshurling7 (Dublin) - Posts: 1017 - 20/04/2012 21:07:23 1156879 Link 0 |
