Midfield, no question. Requires great stamina as you have to cover more ground than any player, you are a vital buffer for HB line, you are a vital link player from keeper to attack, you are expected to chip in with scores, you are the most likely target for kick/puck outs so a lot of responsibility, chances are you are going to have some 6'4" brick wall marking you for 70mins trying to make mince meat of you and of course this is the most difficult position to hold down as there are only two places available in that outfield position. Would have said midfield a couple of years ago, now not so sure with teams bypassing it more often. every position now is as important as the next. AthCliath (Dublin) - Posts: 4347 - 04/04/2012 21:08:40 1143990 Link 0 |

Last night I watched our club play in a game where the opposition dominated midfield in the first half winning nearly every ball and went in with an 8 point lead at the break. Our management changed the midfield pairing for the second half and our two boys started taking control which turned the game around for us and but for a spurned opportunity in the final minute we would have won the game. As it happens it ended up a draw but it does back up the arguement that midfield is probably the most important position on the field in regards to affecting the course of the game.
