Mick was born in Carrick-on-Suir in 1943 and as the river forms part of the Tipperary Waterford border in the town, Mick was brought up in the Carrickbeg parish where the local club participates in the Waterford Championship. And he won a Waterford Minor Championship medal in 1959. He went for a trial with Decies Minors the following year but wasn't selected on the county team. If he had been selected would the course of Decies hurling have changed? Mick's father was a founder member of the Carrick Davins club and had played football for the Premier County. It was always on the cards that his son's loyalty would be to the blue and gold.
Article from HS magazine in 1996.

Interesting that he retired at the age of 31 because he didn't want to go training two nights a week.

Anyway if he was the best centre back of all time then he would of been on the team of the millenium, a team that was picked by "hurling experts". John Keane from Waterford was centre back and therefore should be considered the best.

Thurles you are to Hurling threads what Ballboy was to the Non Gaa Forum. Padraic Maher is a great player but in my opinion is not as good as JJ or Tommy Walsh.

Good enough for Tipp but not for Waterford it seems

explain

I said in my last prediction that either Cork or Dublin or Galway would beat Kilkenny

none of those teams have beaten Tipperary and thats a fact

I am trying to follow your logic Thurlesblues. However, I need your help in understanding something. If you could tell me which of the following statements you feel are incorrect.

Kilkenny have beaten Tipp 4 times out of the last 5 (the only games that are relevant given that no current players would have been part of other games involving the sides).

However, Tipp are better than Kilkenny because Tipp traditionally have won more head-to-head encounters between the sides in All-Ireland finals.

Tipperary have beaten Cork 4 times out of the last 5 in championship games (just to keep the numbers the same).

However, Cork have won more head-to-heads in Munster finals.

If you argue that that Tipperary are better than Kilkenny and the only argument you have for that is a spurious historical one, the surely you must then concede by your arguments that Cork are currently better than Tipperary.

Of course, nobody would suggest that at present because they are not. I am simply posing the question in effort to take you seriously?

Don't waste your breath. We've all been there and done it.

Thurlas is just upset that Kilkenny have won more All Irelands in the last 6 years than Tipp have won in the last 50. It's not Kilkenny's fault that Tipp were not good enough to get to the final. All of their wins in the last ten years have come against Munster teams that Tipp were not able to beat. Going by the old days Tipp wouldn't of even won the 2010 all ireland because the back door didn't exist. They would of been out in the first round after been hammered by Cork.
He's also getting very excited about the league, I wouldn't pay any attention to league form, Kilkenny have only lost one championship game in 5 years.
