"From what I have seen the same security needs to be in place as if it was Lingfield are playing Shamrock Rovers because some just go for the fight."
There is no sectarian songs sung at gaa matches, so to liken a gaa match to a linfield/silgo rovers soccer match which would be heavily policed and separated fans. One of the great joys within our association is the fact that opposing fans interact on a greater personal level than the majority of other team games, through-out my time following the county and club, I have always enjoyed the banter that goes on at the matches. Yes, in some isolated incidents it can spill over to more serious episodes and they will be more highlighted by the media because they need news that shocks there views, some little stats:
Roughtly 1600 senior/reseve games played in tyrone last year, with 1 game where violence was a feature, (Cmore/dromore). That leaves 99.999375% of the games where football was the winner.
Also, There was never any word or reports of a break-out of violence in the crowd, or maybe i missed that report. Yes, supporters came onto the field and the club involved will be most certainly punished by the letter of the law.

1100645 Ah tis tread has gone all personal: step back a small bit lads and take stock: with regard to Vince Cooper Crokes Chairman's comments and the Senior Club Semi against Cross, there was an incident the last time these clubs played and a crokes player was struck by a Cross supporter. I do however think that separating the crowds is a bit in the extreme. Ask any genuine and I mean any genuine supporter from any club/county and they will tell you there is nothing nicer than sitting next to another supporter from the opposition and discussing the game from different points of view. I remember in 1997 being at the AI Semi-final against Cavan sound skins in all fairness and drank many's a pint with them over the weekend, same in 2002 even though we lost the Armagh supporters were fair sound and I've often met some up there and down in Tralee/Killarney at league games and again all banter but still in all sound genuine supporters and couldn't speak highly enough of them.
There was actually a number of incidents at this game two of which affected me personally, a crokes fan spat in my mothers face (77 years old) and ran away. My car was vandalised and had the word "brit" scraped on it. The level of abuse that the crokes chairmans namesake directed towards Paul Hearty was a disgrace (comments about being british etc), just incase he reads this I will point out the following:
Cooper - name of English extraction. Hearty - name of Irish extraction.
So who should "go back to were they belong to..."

Seems many posters are hiding behind the 'anti-ulster bias' excuse. Very cowardly.
what punishment do people think is suitable if a teams subs/supporters invade the field of play and attack opposition players during and after the game?

1100656 Superglue, I was there on Sunday, saw that the mentor defended himself as can be seen in the video. Please watch the clip objectivly without the rose tinted.....
I have and in slow motion. First action is by the fella with the clip board when he pushes the Dromid player. What's your version?

The Road.... NB
Violence must be confronted GALWAY ADVERTISER, OCTOBER 16, 2008. Nobody likes any columnist to be overly dramatic, and when there are people losing their jobs hand over fist in manufacturing and construction, and the economic prospects for the country appear to be bleak, issues of sport can rightly be put on the back boiler.
However sometimes the nettle has to be grasped and important problems addressed. And serious violence in and after GAA games is one that cannot and should not be brushed under the carpet.
GBH or assault should be treated the same if it happens inside the wire of a GAA/soccer/rugby pitch as it is on a street.
Last Sunday morning in Pearse Stadium, An Spideal took on the Aran Islands in the Junior A championship replay.
The stakes were high and there was tension at the ground. The men from the mainland won a tight contest by two points and those in attendance thought that was that. Let's go home and tackle the roast.
However instead we had a massive brawl with some players and selectors taking some serious and vicious blows. One man was kicked in the ribs as he was on the ground after being struck in the face. Another player was set upon and beaten by more than one assailant.

I was between laughing and crying to be honest.
Some of the scéalta were good though.

The incident that Horsebox refers to where he says that a Crokes player was hit is factually incorrect and based on the words of the chairman who went full frontal after the game. One of the players was getting into it with a woman standing down from me and as he walked past him she patted him on the head and said something along the lines of hard luck, just not in those words. No player was struck apart from that to my knowledge and I was close to it everything.

You are wasting your time BigSacks quoting facts and figures; some are so blinded by their hatred of the North that they won't see the moat in their own eye.

ok this is gone plain mad!!!
For the record the Crokes chairman should know better!!
If they dont want to sit near the Cross fans, just dont sit near them!!! It wont be a sell out! And what he said IS a gross attack on a truly great club.
I stand by all my earlier points, but what the Crokes chair has come out with is utter crap and deserves little or no attention.

I think there'll be 1 released about what was the point when everybody turned against the Kerry supporters with comments like that way before that, will you go away instead of coming out with rubbish like that.
