Did any one see Fearaibh Fionntrá last night? It was a great programme. It was about football in Ceann Trá (wets of Ciarraí) and about the 22 All Irelands won by people from Ceann Trá. There were good interviews from Paidí, Marc, Tomás, Feargal and Dara Ó Sé as well as contributions from Tom Long and other footballers from that part of the country. It was a lovely programme. -------------------------------------------------------- Watched it with the mot!....Her pointing out all sorts of Corca Dhuibhne 'head the balls'!!

It seems between 100,000 and 200,000 are regularily watching their coverage which amounts to between 10 and 20% of total viewership. Céard a cheapann sibh faoi sin?
Not huge considering the costs and the advertising rates those figures would generate. without the taxpayers subsidy I doubt if they could afford anything like the sort of coverage they give at present.

What planet are you on dhorse. For a minority language television station that is huge. Regarding the taxpayer subsidory I'm not sure RTÉ could do half the job it does without it either. TV3 doesn't get the tax payer subsidory and clearly doesn't.

All very true, but it doesn't take from the clear reality of what I said.. people watched the match to see the match not listen to a minority language... i doubt if the numbers would have been higher on any channel. You're spot on Re RTE, half it's revenue comes from Tax, though I'm not sure what that has got to do with the populaity Off peak season GAA games

It's a disgrace that TG4 changed their plans to show the two A.I. U.21 Football Finals next Saturday because a certain county are replaying a relegation League game. Makes no sense at all and sends out the message that the U.21 is not as important as a relegation league match !! Shame on them !!

cavan slasher The only reason you are complaining is that you dont like Hurling and want to see it stopped completly, furthermore there was a tremendous amount of entertainment in the Galway V Dublin game, so I suppose thats why it has been chosen ahead of a football game. By the way I watched the eforts of your U 21 team in Croke Park last year against Galway. Enough said

Try and think before you post. Did we not easily dispose of your U 21's already ? So where does that put your lot ? Enough said !!

My guess is that most people who want to see the Cavan V Roscommon match will be at it due to proximity to the venue. You'll get the deferred coverage in the pub after, Slasher. The Galway V Dublin match probably has a wider appeal.

TV3 point - provide a good service is what i said. I think TV3 GAA coverage is cat basically.
Poster and opinions - you were giving your opinion on the viewing statistics I revealed and not on the thread topic. Read the original thread if you dont believe me.
Agitated - not in the least!! I'm just rebuting (I think thats the word I'm looking for) one of your points.
Regarding the reasons people are watching TG4's coverage, you mention that people watch the coverage for the popularity of the games not because its a minority language. Well that goes without saying. There could be Turkish, Russian or even French viewers but that doesn't take away from my point. That viewership of up to 168,000 is very good for a minority language television station. We have a Welsh TV station that shows exclusive World Cup and Heineken Cup rugby but their viewing fifures would compare with TG4's never mind the viewing figures of the French television station. I'm only comparing TG4 to our other mnority language stations to get my point accross.

to cavanshasher just got your post. I did know your u21 football beat our u21s, but that didnt bother me then and much less now. Anyhow our u21 footballers won the All Ireland football a few years ago But you neglected to mention the main reason of my original text and that was why you are so peeved at the live coverage been switched to Hurling on Sunday. The true Gaels in Cavan are the Hurling people in Cavan, they support Hurling and football , without even having a seat on the football dominated "County" Board. They are working away at Hurling in Cavan depsite the abysmal treatment they are getting

it would just have been nice for a county like cavan that never gets much coverage on the tv to have their game shown live. (would have been good for all the cavan supporters who cannot get to the game because they are living abroad or can't travel due to work etc. lets face it dublin and galway get alot more coverage anyway.

i am going to reply to myself here... if people are living abroad then they wouldn't see it anyway but now they can as it is being shown on tg4.tv. assuming its not blocked abroad.

afraid the games are blocked abroad. Once more the GAA neglecting those who have left the country. (I am led to believe it is the GAA who block the online coverage being shown abroad). With all the people who have left the country recently I think more should be done so they can follow their teams. I am lucky in the my local has an Irish Sky Box, so we get to see all the games. Can see why teh GAA can't have their own online GAA channel and maybe charge £5 a month for people to subscribe.

I won't disagree with you on that at all. It was just the tone of your original post. If they make plans they should keep to them. My main point was that if Galway were playing Wexford do you think they would have changed it ? Not a chance imo !!

Cavanslasher.
Yeah point taken, you are probably correct. But from another angle , Dublin Hurling has made great strides in recent years and it would be great to see them continue and really make their mark. Dont forget its Dublin Hurling we are talking about, not Dublin Football, as the Hurlers never seemed to get the same exposure as the football

Unlike yourself I am loathe to point out anybody's linguistic capabilities. You might wish to get on to Culann regarding the above quote, I reposted it with question marks as i had no idea what he intended to say, I'm sure it was a failure with my comprehension.
I will do my best to bring my English up to your standards in time. I will stick with for the time being as my Spanish and Italian are just slightly better than my Irish, but hopefully improving.
In the meantime if you are signing up for english classes yourself, give me a shout:::::::: Tom1916 County: Armagh Posts: 1368
941279 is paddy bradley not the leading scorer
provide the statistical facts to prove it applefeen and I will gladly agree.
Also even if someone overtook Oisin that is because he has retired, tha fact remains that while he was playing he was the top scorer in ulster football history.
THERE IS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT WITHIN ALL OF US

Economically for TG4 it makes a lot more sense to air both their games live from one venue.

I think we have been around the block before on this one. I have no gripe with TG4 other than it provide value for money as should all services provided with yours and mine Taxes. I watch a lot of it, especially their translated documentaries, they're great for the cowboys also even though I'm part native American, but sure the war is over. My main point is that the numbers watching GAA on TV other than the showpiece summer games tend to rebut the clamour by some GAA fans for more of it to be shown, it would seem that they neither want to go to games or watch it on TV, but seem to expect it to be available regardless of the economics of the situation
P.S. I have no issue with your or anybody elses spelling/grammar/punctuation/syntax other than when I can't get what their point is. Others do, but then again .....People in glasshouses.......
