GAA ar TG4

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I am aware of numerous sites that you can pay a subscription to obtain an Irish IP, I can use my companies Dublin office's proxy and have done for games shown when I've had to work weekends. I have had a subscription to premier sports up until October and haven't had cause to try and watch any of the games since. However in the past when I have tried the various available "free" proxies the majority of them haven't worked.

However this all detracts from the statement made, in promotion of the sport globally should the GAA not allow the games to be free to air outside the island of Ireland.

I was able to watch Ath Cliáth v Cil Dara last Saturday on TG4. It was nice to see a live match Stateside since most live matches are blocked. Even though I prefer live matches I enjoy TG4 still for the taped matches. Doire v Tír Eoghain is on now. Last fall TG4 broadcast tape the semis and final for the women's football too. I could not watch any of them on RTE so I am grateful for TG4. Cro raibh máit agát!

'Culture fascists' - interesting terminology, as that's what I think when I see 'journalists' berating the Irish language and anything else that might have the slightest nationalist tinge to it. My Irish isn't great but it's enough to follow the matches that TG4 show. Fair play to them for their GAA coverage and I'd agree with Ulsterman - they show documentaries which it's hard to imagine would ever appear on RTE.

There was another great weekend of GAA action on TG4 at the weekend. It started with Seó Spóirt on Friday followed by over four hours of football from 2 o clock on Sunday. Was I the only one watrching it?

A lot of coverage, is Tv coverage killing the attendences at games

I wouldn't have thought so dhourse. Only a small amount of games were televised at the weekend, yet the attendances seemed to have been down nearly everywhere. I believe that there are a lot of event junkies in Ireland that only come out when their teams are winning or doing well.

Also I'd blame the recession for the lower atendances, obviously!

I'm sure there are a lot of factors, but I would think TV is one of them. Met 3 lads in letterkenny on their way to game yesterday, but decided to watch it in the pub instead. I would also reckon that petrol/diesel price is another factor for travelling supporters.

Whoever decided to show Tipp and Waterford instead of Kilkenny and Dublin at the weekend should be sacked. Everyone knew Waterford hadn't a hope of beating Tipp, Dublin always give Kilkenny plenty of it in the league too, it makes no sense at all. All I'm hearing from people who were at the game was that it was unbelievable.

What are the live and deferred games for this weekend?

Cork v Kilkenny would have to be one of them... anyone know for sure?

What the hell were they doing no showing the cats v the dubs. My two favourite hurling teams and the best in the country against the fourth best. These games are always exciting as well and now most of us will never get to see that great match they just played.

A poster above makes a good point about televising games, Meath v Derry wasn't televised yet there was a terrible crowdbut Kildare and Meath was and there was a huge crowd at it. Surely the GAA could do with the extra TV revenue.

The following link makes for interesting reading. It shows the amount of people a bhíonn ag breathnú ar GAA Beo.

http://www.tg4.ie/en/production/tg4-viewing.html

It seems between 100,000 and 200,000 are regularily watching their coverage which amounts to between 10 and 20% of total viewership. Céard a cheapann sibh faoi sin?
