GAA Pitch Invasions can be safely carried out.

I can't imagine too may Limerick fans thinking they better stay in the stands if they end the famine on Sunday. Croke Park is different alright as you have bascially a ring of men shoulder to shoulder around the perimeter with netting. The fact they managed to keep Dublin and Donegal off the croke park pitch probably means a pitch invasion of Croke Park is highly unlikely to be repeated....unless someone decides to do a Fr.Neil Horan on it.

Fantastic scenes, barriers and bans are just for the thugs of Dublin though.

i have to say i think its a disgrace lsitening to the rte panel praising the pitch invasions at a time when the gaa were calling all week for supporters to stay off the field after a limerick player got a serious eye injury after the win against tipp from supporters on the pitch.you have players doing a campaign asking supporters to stay off the pitch as they would rather celebrate the win and soak it up and then loughnane and co applaude the limerick crowd for doing it.
You cannot have one rule for croke park and one for the other grounds surely if the excuse is its too dangerous in croke park because of the large volume of supporters its equally as dangerous in the gaelic grounds with 40 thousand with very little emergency exits

How can you stop a pitch invasion putting up fences? to expensive a Garde for every spectator can't see that either, dig a mote cheaper than fencing or see it as it is a celebration of making history .

Well they could extend the Hill 16 barrier right around the ground all in the interests of balance and fairness of course.

well if they claim pitch invasions come from the terraces first its not rocket science to put the same screen up in grounds where provincial finals are being played such as thurles, gaelic grounds, clones or castlebar

Let me paint a different picture. Time almost up, teams level, with BOTH sets of supporters queuing up on the sidelines like we saw in the Gaelic grounds yesterday. Ref makes a controversial call, awarding a point to one of the teams, major incident ensues. Now I agree that yesterday in the Gaelic grounds was a joyous occasion, and I was on the field afterwards myself...BUT...there's a fine line between what happened yesterday and what happened in the Louth Meath game a few years ago, or the infamous Offaly "sit-in" after Jimmy Cooney's timekeeping error. what happened yesterday can only safely happen when one team is so far ahead that the result is not in doubt.

How can you have one rule for Croke Park and a separate one for everywhere else?

In my opinion Limerick should be cautioned either by fining or by smaller allocation of tickets for the semi-final or whatever. Otherwise it shows the inconsistency of the organisation. Every other county respected the decision to cease pitch invasions.

Here's what Christy Cooney said three years ago while president of the GAA: "What we're saying is that pitch invasions will not be tolerated in any situation". So if that's what they're saying, how can they turn around and all of a sudden tolerate them.

By the way Sean Cavanagh, Tyrone footballer, after the 2008 final said this: "Hand on heart it is quite scary. At that stage your legs are tired, your body is tired and all you want to do is go and lie somewhere or even just take a minute to yourself"

What about the losing Cork players and the referee and his team? Limerick fans didn't give much consideration to them. The referee looked to sprint towards the exit at the end. Surely a referee should be allowed leave the pitch with a bit of dignity.

the worst thing is hearing the fools on rte praising the pitch invasion and coming out with crap like its great to meet your neighbours and chat on the pitch after!!!
i never heard such talk in all my life you can talk to your neighbour in your front garden any day of the week!!!!
the gaa has been trying to stamp it out of the game and then rte promotes it

If the Limerick supporters had stayed off and politely applauded that would have made the occasion so much more memorable.

Not.

As one of the people who was on the field last sunday with my three children it was mighty and a day they will never forget for the rest of their lives!!...all this compliance in society these days is a load of codswallop...making mountains out of molehills..tried to make fusspots out of everyone...your local publican cant make a sandwich for you, your local bank wont cash your wage check etc....and the GAA employing a couple of hundred ex lithuian & lativan ex army men along with a few gym monkeys from Dublin to manhandle a over excited Donegal or Tipperary man after an All Irelanfd final victory is shameful....people from all counties will remember the tremendous scenes after Limerick winning the 2013 Munster hurling title !
