GAA Pitch Invasions can be safely carried out.

All-Ireland final day is perfect the way it is at present. Well, as long as they never let Janet Devlin sing at half-time again...

Until a Louth supporter punched a ref coming from the Cusack Stand....Pitch invasions were the norm.

The GAA responded to this by putting a barrier in front of hill 16.

Never made sense to me!

Have been on the pitch after every game i was at this year. It's only Croke park you are not allowed onto because of insurance claims if you trip or fall.

Sure haven't they stopped since... pitch invasions always started from the hill. Either way, I would consider the case for preventing them to have been made much better since. The Dublin players got time to soak up the moment, the McHughs famous moment after the whistle last year, Shefflin running around with the number 9 shirt facing forwards after making history. Sometimes supporters need to realise it ain't all about us...

Really? You ran onto the pitch at Mchale park? Sweet cikey, some people have no pride whatsoever.

Walked not ran. As former match steward i'm well use to going onto the field after games. Having a chat with some of the players, trainers etc is what our amateur sport is all about IMO.

I was one of those meath fans in the fabled last pitch invasion in croker.....to me it will be something that I will always treasure...I don't like this no pitch invasions it just doesn't seem right..it seems very soccerish like the dream of every young boy and girl is to lift liam or sam high infront of a sea of whatever colour their county is. there was a clip of I think eddie brennan being carried off after one of their all Irelands and saying how he was delighted and he saw his uncle in crowd and handed him the sliothar....to me that's what the gaa is all about

I said earlier I didn't remember posting on the above thread but it is all coming back to me now. Rather than going through it all again here's a post I wrote before...

We can all debate again about the rights and wrongs of health and safety but really one these days GAA supporters are going to have to get their heads around the fact that the players don't even want fans on the pitch. We all love to think we're in it together but the reality is the teams would rather have the time and space to celebrate in their own way. And best of luck to them, they deserve it. it's more about the players than any of us. And whoever wins on Sunday it's going to be one of the most memorable moments of the supporters' lives whether you get on the pitch or not!

Most importantly though losing teams deserve the right to exit the field gracefully and not getting pushed around or worse by opposition supporters. And that's not a modern phenomenon. It goes right back to 1982 when Charlie Nelligan got a box after the final whistle after the five in a row final and probably even further.

Should the barriers be taken down?link

I would have been all for going on the pitch after games until last year's All Ireland final. The fact that supporters stayed off allowed the players time to celebrate, do a lap of honour, involve their children & it gave us the magic moment of Martin & Mark McHugh celebrating together. Because we all stayed off the pitch we all got to enjoy the celebrations, we all had time to clap players on the back at homecomings etc etc.

Pitch ban is really only a Croke Park pitch ban. EVERY other gorunds lets fans out on the field after a game. You will see them out on the Pitch after the Munster Final Sunday.

No one will argue with what you say. Its the players day, winners and losers.

BUT the only barrier is in front of Hill 16, it is an affront to decency, it goes against everything the GAA stands for. It is just a sad reflection on the rest of the GAA's prejudice's, the one that says only the dubs jeer free-takers, that a Dublin pitch invasion is thuggery etc etc.

That barrier is a blight on the beautiful stadium that is Croke Park and it sadly is just a reflection of what the GAA head's think of Dublin fans. Ever since its presence I have noticed the attendance to drop off significantly. It looks even more obscene when the stadium is half-full.

the munster council have made a plea to supporters to stay off the pitch this weekend after the whistle as a limerick player was struck in the eye the last day after the tipp match by his own supporter celebrating and almost missed this sunday over an ulser he got from it.the reason they cannot keep them off down there is lack of man power.the stewards in croke park are hired security not just voluntary

yeah nobody wants to stand right down at the screen as when its sunny the sun creates a glare off the screen which is hard to see through and when it rains the screen gets wet causing it hard to see through, they dont think of this when putting it in place

_____________

When I heard that plea I thought... Fair enough ..

When I read on and saw that they wouldn't be drafting in more stewards I though , That plea will fall on deaf ears..

Its not the first time and it wont be the last that a plea is made for supporters not to go on the pitch... but while there is no barriers in grounds like thurles... people will continue to enter the field of play after the game

____________

Ultimately I agree with this ..

The players seem to prefer being able to celebrate on the pitch afterwards .. They are the most important ones here..

And whatever we say,It is safer if people don't go onto the pitch.. Wether its in Croke park or McHale park

i agree with doublehop its definatly safer and if players rather it then should be respected.
but to only put a barrier in front of the hill is madness.theres 13 thousand capacity at the terraces.
theres about 35-40 thousand capacity of the lower tiers in the stand a few hundred stewards is not going to stop them coming onto the pitch if they wanted
