he was apparently hiding in a big pipe buried in the ground. He had enough supplies to stay there for years. They started broadcasting Westlife interviews and songs into the pipe by megaphone. Nobody could stick that. Ghadaffi knew it was death or Westlife and chose the former. Cavan_Slasher (Cavan) - Posts: 10253 - 21/10/2011 09:57:55 1055859 Link 0 |

Gadaffi did indeed have a lot of blood on his hands, but the West knew that and welcomed him back into the fold, with Tony Blair looking for photo opportunties in his tent. Whatever he did it was still pitiful to see the scenes of his death on the telly and anyone who can rejoice in that has a serious problem. Also the tabloid headlines this morning were disgusting, a la Irish Sun "Mad Dog put down". By the way I did not nor would not buy any of those rags but just saw the Headlines as I was buying The Irish Times this am. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 21/10/2011 17:42:32 1056336 Link 0 |
Anyone watched the videos of his torture on YouTube? Pretty sick, but that's what he deserved I guess. killer_88_ (Mayo) - Posts: 2040 - 21/10/2011 18:08:05 1056372 Link 0 |

it's funny how enemies of the west are MAD. I always thought some of those leaders who sent their troops into Iraq were just a little unstable. And some leaders in this country wouldn't be far behind them for letting war planes stop on this island for duty free. thistle_harps (UK) - Posts: 879 - 21/10/2011 20:06:39 1056444 Link 0 |

it is always tempting to in any conflict to potray your adversary as being savage or unstable but however never with constructive results only destructive. That destructiveness is now very visible in our papers televisions and computers derryman (Derry) - Posts: 3246 - 21/10/2011 20:27:54 1056468 Link 0 |
Those scenes of the Colonel's death made for very uncomfortable viewing, it speaks volumes of 'our' media and politicians that most of them glorified and indeed rejoiced in the lynching of a 70 year old. I've read endlessly of the tyrant that was Gadaffi, all very general. Where are the specific details of the crimes he committed ? The dates and the places, I've yet to actually see any evidence of this brutality towards his people. artisan (Down) - Posts: 1794 - 23/10/2011 12:01:46 1057081 Link 0 |

the west new way to fighting wars is to support one side give them air support , weapons , military training and media backing , us in the west have a lot to be ashamed off hipster (Dublin) - Posts: 2509 - 23/10/2011 14:23:30 1057176 Link 0 |
I would not be an apologist for Gaddafi, but the Western powers are hypocrites, this war was never about protecting civilians. They saw an opportunity to remove a stone in their shoe and replace him with a Government that might show its gratitude through expanded trade opportunities. There is a dictator slaughtering his people in Syria at the moment but no one is doing anything about it. The manner of Gaddafi's death is a major setback for peace in the region, this is a tribal society and when push comes to shove, tribal allegiances could triumph over National allegiances. Gaddafi did a lot of good things for Libya but his eventual undoing was because he favoured his own people and his own regions. Benghazi in particular was neglected and there was a simmering resentment always under the surface. Emboldened by the Tunisian revolution they decided to have a go, they would not have succeeded except France and England saw their opportunity and weighed in on the side of the rebels. The jury is now out, its too early to say what will happen but for those presently rejoicing at Gaddafi's demise I would urge caution. corkcelt (Cork) - Posts: 4388 - 23/10/2011 14:40:32 1057191 Link 0 |

Yew Tree, can you tell me specifically some of the horrendous acts Gadaffi is supposed to have committed against his people? Sergeant_Slash (Cavan) - Posts: 2182 - 23/10/2011 15:30:23 1057215 Link 0 |
The usual apologists out in force making excuses for a man who slaughtered countless Libyans over a number of decades. Disgusting but it's what we expect from these people pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 23/10/2011 15:31:44 1057217 Link 0 |
The UN and Hague have to now show consistancy; those who murdered Ghadaffi and his sons MUST be brought before the International Human Rights Courts. Then again Britain and Israel get away with state sanctioned murder and killing people within their own borders all the time so we'll be subjected to more Western hypocrisy.
