Towns and Villages Nationwide with NO GAA teams

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

I was just wondering if there are any villages or even towns nationwide that don't have a GAA team in it or in the vicinity of it. I'd imagine in the North that would be fairly common in certain areas. In Wicklow I think Delgany would be pretty GAA free, though Eire Óg in Greystones is close. I can't imagine there is much GAA in Monkstown, Donnybrook or Blackrock, but are there actual teams there to choose from?

Killester in north Dublin has no club - but Raheny & Craobh Ciaran in Donneycarney are close enough.

Carrigkerry in Limerick has no GAA Club
Also the vast vasy majority of Limerick City has no represenative GAA club
Na Piarsaigh are from the Caherdavin, Clareview, Coonagh side
Pats are from the Rebogue, Dublin Road side.
Christians are from Southill, Galvone. Rathbane
Claughan are from....Claughan/Garryowen

Areas like Dooradoyle, Raheen, Corbally, SCR, NCR etc dont have any club. Lads from these areas would tend to play for nearby clubs like Mungret, St Nicholas Parteen etc

Are we talking parishes or Villages?

If its Parishes, I reckon we'd have a few but if it was actual villages then the number would shoot up.

In Kerry, parishes I know of:
Camp play with Annascaul. The team is 75% Camp born players so the Annascaul name is an insult to them
Castlemaine play with Milltown - but the club is called Milltown/Castlemaine.
Cloghane parish plays with Castlegregory
Barraduff with Rathmore

Foxrock did have an underage team they used to play in the Wicklow North East League in the 90s.

Liam,

The Seven Hogs and the locals from Aughausla would be proud Castlegregory men. Micheal O'Se, who won the All-Ireland club final with Vincents, is from there.

Not true Real Kerry Fan - there Foxrock/Cabinteely GAA Club and also there's Foxrock Geraldines who I think are mostly ladies football - open to correction.
The main Non-GAA areas in Dublin I think are Blackrock, Monkstown and Rathgar.
If you're living in Dublin 4 you can join Clann Na Gael (football) / Fontenoy (hurling), based in Sandymount.

Liam, with regard to Limerick City, Raheen and Dooradoyle is part of Mungret St Pauls; NCR and Ballinacurra would play with Ballinacurra Gaels; Corbally is Abbey Sarsfileds. While the latter two might not be strong at all levels, at least the areas are covered.

A few about my local area that wouldnt have any representation;

Bushmills - no team and the locals wouldnt want one lol
Portrush - although a few would play for Coleraine
Portstewart - players play for Coleraine and the Coleraine pitch is basically already in Portstewart
Ballymoney - had a team at a time, not sure if they still exist
Garvagh - no team in Garvagh but a few would play with Glenullin
Castlerock - any players would probably play for Coleraine

Loads of other little villages that wouldnt have or want a team.

1024630 Liam,

I always thought Carrigkerry were part of St. Kierans?

Strictly speaking they would be, but Kierans are really the Ardagh/Kilcolman and surrounding area Club. Carrig would really be a soccer village. Carrig Celtic have always had HUGE crowds by Desmond League standards!

I presume u mean SCR not NCR FF? They would play with Gaels due to proximity, but I am sure you will agree, Gaels are a Ballinacurra team and SCR would not come into it in reality.
Re Sarsfields, I will admit to knowinf nothing about them. Know a good few lads from Westbury/Shannon Banks and they would say St Nicholas would be the local team?

Any Dubs know what Club/Clubs cover the area from Clann na Gael/Fontenoy in Sandymount to Cuala in Dalkey.

Its a pretty large area with a big population from Blackrock to Dun Laoighaire?

Amn't aware of any clubs who claim this as their catchment area.
