Finally this is done and dusted and we can focus properly on the match itself.

As egotistic as it may be to quote yourself:

County: Wexford

1023929 It's the highest profile final for a long time so the GAA is obviously going to consider its options carefully for this and draw as much attention as possible, even bad press is good press as the media moguls like to say. Connolly's card will probably be rescinded even though it shouldn't be, by an organisation that just does what it wants.

Hate to say I told you so......

A disgrace.

Referee undermined and an obvious striking offence going unpunished. Not to mention the retaliation that is in itself an offence worthy of dismissal.

Shame on the GAA yet again.

Good to see the Kerry Folk are in agreement with this decision
its the right call and I am delighted for Dermo
only thing wrong is Boyle should get the 4 week ban instead for diving

Now, Bring on the match.

(calm down gigoer, calm down!!!!)

Clear striking action to the face and yet the card is overturned. Its unbelievable.

I've nothing against Connolly and its good for him personally to be able to play but its a farcical decision by the GAA. Not only do they contradict themselves after the Brian Farrell appeal earlier, in this instance the result more or less shifts all of the blame on to the officials when they in fact got the decision right. What message does this send out now?

Once more they have thrown away the rulebook and bowed to media pressure.

FAO Squareball from Donegal."So Dublin players can strike out now and get away with it? Although Marty Boyle did dive, he would not have done so if Connolly did not strike out at him.
Ridiculous decision!
He will not have a good game against Kerry anyway - he is only good when he is given space... ie against Tyrone. He was poor against both Tyrone and Donegal. "

Nobody I have spoken to is arguiing that he DIDNT HIT anyone, you seem to be totally hung up on he hit a donegal fella. Not arguing there, but what your failing to see is that it was the fact the ref never asked him for his name is the real reason he got off. In fact he could have clattered as many as he wanted and once the ref didnt ask for his name, he was always gonna get off. Let go of the fact he wasnt done for punching and get your county to proposed a motion to tidy up all these loopholes. All the best for next year by the way.

I expect that the GAA will come out and publicly apologise to Meath and Brian Farrell for not rescinding his red card from earlier in the year for an infinitely less serious incident. While i do think the red was slightly harsh (although he did stupidly raise his hands), the least you would expect is a little consistency from game to game. Unfortunately it seems that certain teams will be punished more than others for similar offences.

like in the case with michael murphy, common sense has prevailed!! however, on the down side of things it has highlighted the inconsistency on the gaa that these 2 red cards were overturned yet brian farrells red card was not!!

Glenquagmire,

On the subject of the rule book, it is a shambles I agree but the mere presence of 3 separate disciplinary bodies with the organisation is a complete joke. There should be one hearing and then one appeal to the same board instead of it being heard by 3 disciplinary bodies and then the actual courts of law if the county board don't like the decision.

The GAA need to sort this out. Re-write the rule book, change it when loopholes are found and stop this rubbish from happening every time there's a red card given in a high profile game.

A totally joke, bring yer mind back a couple of years to a kerry v cork national game, kerry and cork had both a player send off, and even done kerry could prove their playerwas innocient , they just wouldn't listen to the appeal, favouritism by the gaa,

Always felt he would get the green light to play - at the time felt he was very unlucky to be sent off. Glad for his sake.

Michael Murphy did not strike his opponent, it was a shoulder barge. There is no similarity.

This is the correct decision and I'm glad he isn't missing the final

Rules bent again by the GAA - disgraceful.

While I am personally delighted for Connolly as he was hard done by in the first place I cannot see how the GAA can bend & break their own rules when it suits them. A clear striking action = automatic red card = 4 week suspension minimum!
As one poster already put it had this been a Kerry player (e.g. Paul Galvin) the suspension would probably have been doubled. No level playing pitch methinks when it comes to some of the GAA's decision making.
Decision won't make a difference really as Tomás Ó Sé won't give him a sniff of the ball in the AIF.

Was a soft Red but it was only overturned because it was the Dubs ...I think everything is being done to make sure they win Sam this year!

How many times have we seen Paul Galvin suspended? You do the crime you do the time, simple as. The red card was harsh yes, however for consistency he should have been missed the final. It sets down a precedent where players will think they can get away with it.

No matter how badly the thing is done there should be consistency and he should have been banned. Typical of the GAA, if Paul Galvin had reacted to the elbow he was given into the face and red carded would his red card be lifted, i think we know the answer there....

That's cuckoo. You can't have the same body hearing an appeal on a case they've already judged. And everybody has a right to go to a court of law but they waive that right if they appeal to the DRA.

The current disciplinary system works well IMO. One body, the CCCC, decides the proposed suspension without a hearing at their usual meeting, then if the player disagrees he can have a hearing with the second body, the CHC. Then if he loses that he goes to teh DRA but waives his right to go the courts at a later stage. So it's a maximum of two hearings.

There's little wrong with the rule book or the disciplinary system that couldn't be sorted with a few tweaks.

And anyway apparently Connolly produced new video evidence so it was nothing procedural and it wasn't a loophole that got him off.

Liam, what's wrong with you?

I'm perfectly calm and quite smug in my correctness as a matter of fact

So now we have a new precedent set by this judgement. If you're sent off for striking someone (regardless of whether its an open fist, a closed fist, a slap with the back of the hand etc) and the person you hit exaggerates the severity of the contact then you can now expect to get your red card overturned. Dangerous ground I think. Also, we're always preached to by the GAA about respecting referees and their decisions yet they obviously disregard their own officials in this case.
