Donegal - The next Tyrone ?

I loved that Tyrone side. Some great players led by an inspirational captain and a phenomenal manager.

Donegal arent at that level, We'll probably not reach that level but theres no harm trying to aspire to what that magnificent team accomplished. Theres alot to be said for Tyrones underage set up and the faith in their manager.

Win one All-Ireland and then comparisons to one of the geatest ever sides can begin.

Right now I'm sure Donegal (like most sides) would settle for being Armagh 2002 and win just one or even Down last year and make a final.

Donegal are no where near as good as Tyrone when they made there breakthrough in 2003. Tyrone had an exceptional work ethic that is mathced by donegal but individually tyrones players were vastly superior to donegals.

How many of the 2011 donegal team would get into the 2003 tyrone team?

Donegal have the potential to be a great team but potential means nothing unless you back it up with performances on a constant basis.

The general thought in Donegal is that we are just delighted to see our team progressing this year and bringing some pride back to our county jersey. That was a great Tyrone team and will go down in history as one of the best but Donegal are a long way off that yet.

Interesting to see people saying that Tyrone had brilliant individual performers in 2003 but that is looking back at it and knowing what they have done in the years since. In 2003 how many people would've rated some of that team as brilliant apart from Peter Canavan!! Remember Stephen O' Neill couldn't get a starting role in that final but he has been brilliant since.

The fact that Stephen O'Neill couldn't even get on the Tyrone starting 15 in 2003 proves how good a side that was.

I'd love to see Donegal winning Sam this year and becoming the force that they deserve to be.

You are easily influenced by media/pat spillane propaganda. A forward line of Dooher, McGuigan, Cavlan, McGinley, Canavan, Mulligan is as good as any forwardline about. Them boys where there on merit and I've yet to see any of them playing in defence. Tyrone racked up some massive scores that year.

Tyrones results in 2003 where:

Tyrone 0-12 Derry 1-9
Tyrone 0-17 Derry 1-5 (Replay)
Tyrone 1-17 Antrim 1-9
Tyrone 0-23 Down 1-5
Tyrone 1-21 Fermanagh 0-5
Tyrone 0-13 Kerry 0-6
Tyrone 0-12 Armagh 0-9

You do the maths...

the most impressive score you shown wasn't the highest. To beat Kerry by 13 to 6 in an All Ireland Semi-Final was where that All Ireland was won IMO.
