Climbed Croagh Patrick yesterday and their were lots of Mayo people chatting about the game on the way up and down. From what i could gather they didnt give them a chance. They must have saying a pray for them. I though they were gone after ten minutes but they showed great spirit to turn it around. Hope they can keep it going it would be some year to win it after the start in London.

Congratulations Mayo on a fantastic win, great hunger and will to win shown. Hope you show the same v Kerry because on yesterday's evidence the Kerry defense can certainly be got at. I thought mortimer and moran were excellent for you. Congratulations again and all the best for the semi!

Great day in Croker yesterday. I'm not a betting man, but was standing in a bookies on Sat morning thinking of putting twenty on Mayo by 3+... sadly didn't in the end... a real missed opportunity! I knew the boys would be up for it and that they'd have the football. Only got comfortable when the gap went to 4 though... have seen too many sucker punches in the past and Cork never gave up. They'll be back... like ourselves they've have a fair number of young players and the backbone of their team averages mid-twenties. Kerry looked class in the first match and did what they had to, though the amount of slack marking by Limerick was shocking at times - for nearly every Kerry kickout they had a free man. Limerick needed to work a lot harder, but apart from a few seemed to lack faith. They need to move up the divisions in the league to really improve. Was very impressed with Bryan Sheehan. I always saw him as a freetaker first and a footballer after that, but midfield is where he belongs - he's a very able fetcher and turned up all over the pitch, showing great mobility. Looking forward to 3 weeks time... the Kingdom will still be hot favs, but the key is still midfield. With a fair share of ball we can hold our own. I feel the key game for us this season was the Dublin league match... Mayo lost that day in the end, but the comeback from such a disasterous start really showed the players what they could do and has increased their self-belief. Always enjoy the league matches with the Dubs... they always try to play fast open football, same as Kerry, Galway, the Rossies and Meath. Tyrone can and sometimes do, but don't always choose to... the Dubs will have their work cut out next week, but there won't be much in it. Thanks again to Cork... ye were deserving champions last year

Some of our fans are complete clowns!!

After London all you could hear was Joyce and co. will kill our defence. They didn't.

After the Galway game their focus was on what Shine and Kilbride would do to our full back line. They didn't do much, Kilbride particularly quiet.

Then after we kept them quiet, they said Donncha O'Connor and Paul Kerrigan will destroy our full back line. They didn't.

Straight after yesterdays victory they were raving about what the O'Sullivan's and Gooch and Donaghy and saying they will destroy us. Maybe they will, but maybe we have the most underrated full back line in the country!!!!!

My advice to Mayo people is enjoy the victory for now and we can think about Kerry next week!!!!!

UP MAYO!!

completely agree with ya. Some of our fans are idiots.

on the eve of the match i had an argument with some fella and his mates who was saying that the Rossies would wipe the floor with us. Iaked him why he tought that and to say his footballing knowledge was bad would be an understatement.
i asked him and his friends if they were going to the game and the repply from all of them was pretty much 'why would we go to see those losers for'.
Was delighted with that because those fools (and others like them) should stay well away from mayo game as they don't have a clue.

I'd follow Mayo over a cliff if thats the direction they are heading in.
Now its all bonus territory...all-ireland semi against the favorites after winning a quarter final against the then favorities..
Go on Mayo.

What I thought was great yesterday was the fact that the Mayo fans up there were the "hardcore". There were no bandwagoners spouting crap, we were all there in it together supporting our lads. There may only have been 22,000 or so in Croker yesterday but the atmosphere in the Cusack was fantastic. What a day!

What I thought was very impressive was the restrained reaction of team and Management. There attitude seemed to be a lot done more to do. If ye are to make the big breakthrough ye do have to stop that "Bonus Territory" mindset. Ye are All Ireland Semi-Finalists on merit, if Cork were playing Kerry in the semis, we would be fancying ourselves. Ye beat us fair & square, if ye repeat that performance ye can also beat Kerry. Remember what Down did to them last year. I would absolutely love to see Mayo win Sam, but ye need to believe ye can and will win it.

Not long home from a hectic weekend in the big smoke. The hangover was not there this morning as the events from the day before sunk in. What a performance our players but in yesterday. I said last week that anything could happen on the day. After a disaster opening quarter they dug deep (as they have done in EVERY game this year) and put cork under pressure. Moran, Mortimer, Kevin Mac, Higgins, Dillion....I could go on were all fantastic.

I was speaking with 2 mayo players last night and was encouraged by their "grounded" views on the game. One player said they always felt they could beat cork but that they are not happy with just getting to a semi. I think fans get too caught up in what the so called experts in the media have been saying this year with their lazy commentary on the mayo team.

Great to see all the well wishers on here and all the people in dublin last night. There were only 22,000 in croker yesterday but the lower hogan had an electric feel to it with mayo fans chanting and cheering all through the game.

Can we beat kerry? Thats for another day.

UP MAYO!

Mayo haven't a chance in hell of beating Cork. It's the worst draw this Mayo team could of got, it will do awful damage to the mindset of this young team as we will not get within 20 points of them. It is
scary thinking of this, the players are aware of this too, it's really bad all round for Mayo.

Empty seats at 4pm? Imagine how many will be left at 4.50 pm when Cork are winning by 25 pts. Oh good jesus this is going to be some nightmare.

Cork 2/11 to beat Mayo, i swear if i had big money, i would cripple paddy power, That is just easy money, there is nothing surer.

Well not a hope in hell do we have, this will be one almighty hiding. A light weight boxer can't beat the heavy weight champion of the world. This is an impossible task for Mayo but all will not be lost for the west this weekend because the Ross will beat Tyrone.

Never in my life was i as proud to be a Mayo man as yesterday. Absolute class, guts and great football, what more can ya ask for. Mayo despite what people say have given some great memories down the years but this was the sweetest for me and most Mayo people.

Well all the above is typical of a lot of people in mayo from one extreme to another. "despite what people might say…" you have a very short time memory of what people like yourself said don't ya

What a result for the boys of Mayo.

Such results are the beauty of the competition.

The Kerry game is far from certain, everyone said Cork would drub ye & they didn't.

Good luck to you

Well done to Mayo. Definitely deserved to win and I really really hope ye can go on from this. It is , after all, only a quarter final. From our perspective, it is ferociously disappointing but as Counihan said, you can not turn players on and off, after a great start, Mayo upped the anti and took us one and we had no reply yesterday. And as Counihan also said, in this game there are a lot more bad days than good days so no point in kicking lads when they are down as most of the time you are down yourself. Fair play to the dignified manor in which Mayo people conducted themselves on and off the field, during and after the game. You are a credit to your county. Well done again.

bennybunny - The cork fans I meet were very gracious in defeat. They all wished Mayo well. Cork looked a tried team in the second half. Alot of milage built up. I am sure ye will be back in the hunt next year. Too many good players for cork to vanish off the rader. I think its the first time ye are not in a semi final in 5 years is it? That alot of football played.

folks this isnt really a big shock- people were niavely basing their opinion of mayo on two games played in the worst weather possible and mayo a small light team- it was immpossible to judge them. but as i am always right i said i will save jusdegment until a dry day- and we have found out all we want to know. mayo have excellent play makers in dillon and moran. we have an excellent free taker, we have a midfield that wouldnt fear anything left in the championship and we have the meanest defence in the country- 4 points in total in second half football against galway, roscommon and cork- that tell you all you need to know- whats best about this mayo team is they are 100% honest to god footballers and even the most bitter people have seriously trouble having a go at this team....
