Not sure of any of those "best club players" are fit for monaghan XV bar martin corey and eamonn ward both clontibret, just looking down the posts and there are some pretty average players mentioned, generally none of these players have made it due to 1: Not being good enough 2: Refuse to give required commitment, however, i must say that the current monaghan panel has some pretty average players 22-30.

Jonathan Douglas. He never actually made it to senior club football but ask anyone that has played with or against him. He was leathel. Without a doubt in my mind, monaghan would have a number of all Irelands titles if he was still playing gaa.

i remember Douglas playing for Monaghan minors in Ulster Minor Football Championship in Celtic Park 1998 aginast Derry, he was an average enough player at that time, stars on show for monaghan that day where gary mc quaid, paul askin (tyholland) and declan mc entee (monaghan haprs), to be honest i dont think douglas would have made it any further than a county minor and i was on the panel that year................

peterthegreat,
if you were on the panel in 1998 you will know that Douglas was starting that day and he was only 15 years old.
so to say that a player playing championship minor football at 15 wouldnt ever make the senior panel is a bit far fetched!!

Douglas was mid-field that day and had a fine game...however the debate is about players of 00's....that was 1998 and he went on to Blackburn shortly after that. so that should put the debate to rest!

For your information J Douglas was born in Sept 1981 so in 1998 he would have been 16 going on 17, so to say he was 15 is wrong. Just wanted to clarify this.

jackstevens1981,

after i posted i remembered he would have actually been 16 as he was born in 81.
but just "for your information", he was actually born in november!
but my original point was that you can hardly say a player wouldnt be fit for senior football when he is playing midfield at 16 in the minor championship!

Ok, you can call me bias but I actually played with Douglas in underage football. There is no argument on this matter as far as im concerned. For example, u16 div1 final 1998 clones v magheracloon. Douglas scored 2-8, tommy freeman scored 2 points??????

PVT - Iv checked this and the final score for Clones that day was 3-6. So Douglas could not have scored 2-8. I also know he missed a peno that day - Shane Duffy saved it. And a guy called Christy Gardner played Douglas off the field that day anyway....
