the parish of kingscourt is divided between cavan, and possibly monagan though I may be wrong with that. I monaghan is only a short distance from the town. also Louth is only out the road a bit too. recently all the teams within a small radius were county champions. magheracloone in monaghan, mattock rangers in louth, kingscourt in cavan and kilmainhamwood in Meath.

surely Mr goldrick you meannt to say that it is divided between cavan and Meath (and possibly Monaghan).. yes I did.

Magheracloone (Monaghan) has a border with 3 counties, Cavan, Meath & Louth!

Enfield/Johnstownbridge on the Meath/Kildare border, basically the same town and geographically where it is situated was in the
heart of the commuter belt in to the city so we should see quite a number of players playing for both
Meath and Kildare from these 2 clubs in the next few years,Enfield go under the name of Na Fianna, and i think J.Bridge
are just called Johstownbridge,I remember Declan Kerrigan played for them i dont know if they have any players on the current team.
Jamie Queeney is on Meath Panel.

Charlestown is on the Mayo boarder with Bellaghy which is in sligo. I may be wrong but i think Tom Parsons is a Bellaghy man. Also Cong in South Mayo, a quarter of it is in Galway.

Blacklion, west Co Cavan, half of the town is in the south, then you cross a bridge and the first thing you see is a huge imposing RUC barracks.

To all our Cavan friends Blacklion does not cross into Fermanagh. The border is drawn along the river between upper and lower Lough McNean, but in Fermanagh it is a different village is called Belcoo. It is not the same village and not the same Parish.

Now in the north of the Fermanagh on the Donegal border the village of Pettigo is spilt in two. The Fermanagh side is mainly of the unionist persausion but I know of one or two people who went to school in Fermanagh and played GAA in schools here but played club football and county minors for Donegal.

Surely there's a good mile between Enfield & Johnstownbridge?
There's short run of 'countryside' between them. This hardly counts as a town split between two counties, does it?...

Many moons ago, I gave a lift to a young couple from Moneygall. After a while, I asked which county it was in and was told that, as we all know now, the village was in Offaly but the hurling pitch was in Tipperary. To my follow-up "Who do you cheer for?", the man replied, a little hesitantly, "Tipperary, I suppose". At this, a determined voice from the back seat piped up "There's no suppose about it."

Roslea parish straddles the Fermanagh Monaghan border with a separate GAA club on either side. I met a man who played for both clubs in the respective county minor finals on the same day and ended up on the winning side in both games. I don't think his name made it onto both teamsheets.

"As Auldfella said, the area around the town of Arva in County Cavan has to be the most unique in this regard. Not only do the three counties of Longford, Cavan and Leitrim converge on each-other here, but the three provinces of Leinster, Ulster and Connacht all join with each-other. Something no other part of Ireland can lay claim to. The Arva club in Cavan and the Dromard club in Longford are very close to each-other, however I dont think there is a Leitrim club in this tri-border area?!"

I think Aughavas or maybe Carrigallen would be the club on the Leitrim/Connaught side. The Dromards drink in Arva coz there's no pub in Dromard so the slagging is fair craic there by times!!

Of course of also in Co. Longford, in the north-east of the county Abbeylara borders Finea Co. Westmeath and Gowna Co. Cavan.

I think this thread is going off track a bit. Abbeylara and Finea may be in neighbouring parishes but the villages are miles apart.

There would be loads of similiar examples of that around the country.

I once had to post something out to a mate of mine who was from around there. I asked for the address and thought she was messing when she said "Leixlip, Co. Dublin"

Id say the craic is mighty. Arva a junior club with no history, and Dromard challenging for the Longford senior every year. Its true about Arva being the place where the three provinces meet, theres a signpost in the town displaying it.

Toome in South Antrim has more of a affinity with Derry particularly South Derry. Many Toome GAA people would rather play for Derry and don't feel any connection or emotion for Antrim.
