For once Lifford Gael we're in agreement. I enjoy Brolly most of the time, he's as biased as they come towards Ulster and he's never one for the inane cliche. But to hear him denigrate Donegal football in its entirety the other day was laughable. He did the same about Meath football on a couple of occasions. Only for O'Rourke is a gentleman he could have got a slap. It would be hard to imagine Geraghty sitting there chuckling along.

You'd think Derry were the master craftsmen of Gaelic football. Granted they were understrength in the league, but Donegal went up to Celtic Park and gave them a sound stomping that night. 2-18 is good scoring at any level of competetion. How I would enjoy it if Fermanagh could pull a result out of the bag against them as hard as it is to see.

In coachin Under age football there is the standard regulation , one solo , one bounce. Antrim senior players should honestly stick to that themselves. The amount of aimless solos , and runnin into traffic was astounding. They would be better served crafting one solo , one bounce maximum and then off load to someone runnin in front. Head up and look to get a pass away instead of bullin around the pitch like no hopers.

A disappointing spectacle for the neutral but there will be plenty of poor games this year that will avoid a similar media glare and the level of sniping criticism that Donegal and Antrim have had to endure over the last 48 hours. The conditions were dreadful with the game dengenerating into the kind of slug-fest you expect in the early rounds of the National League. Last summer I saw Cork play Wexford in similar conditions and it was a horrible game, finishing 0-13 to 0-05. In such conditions you just want to get in, get the result and move on because good football is near impossible. If Donegal and Antrim are unable to improve when playing in better conditions then they deserve all the criticism coming their way but last Sunday it would have been difficult for any side to play an open and expansive game of football.

I believe Donegal can and will play better than what they showed last Sunday. McGuinness is astute enough to know his tactics will need to evolve the further Donegal progress and start to come up against stronger opposition and even more so if they make to the last eight stage at Croke Park. They remain a work-in-progress but a Division 2 title and an opening win in Ulster represents a solid start under new management. To be honest Antrim look poor and it is hard to see venturing too far although a lot of teams would still want to avoid them in the early rounds of the qualifiers.

Donegal - Antrim game was very disappointing and I think it reflects poorly on Donegal when they didnt have the confidence in themselves to play a few more men up front. Having said that its been a few years since they won in Ulster and they were probably pretty desperate to win at whatever the cost. I think as the year progresses we'll see them play with a bit more style and i'd be confident they'll make the quarters at least. Antrim have regressed from 2009 and will likely bow out of the qualifiers at an early stage.

As for the winners of the Ulster championship, well firstly I think standards have slipped in the last few years. Tyrone for instance in the past 2 seasons have looked imperious in Ulster but pretty ordinary when they've went to Croke Park. I think Tyrone will grind out 3 in a row but they wont win Sam. Dublin or Cork for me.

I was there.

It was AWFUL. Donegal were AWFUL, so what does that say about Antrim?

Totally dreadful stuff, worse even than Down V Tyrone last year.

Chris McKaigue would have been some addition to Derry on Sunday judging by the way he has developed at Sydney Swans. See for yourself, and Mark Murphy is definitely still county standard but playing Down Under - link

Fabulous match so far. Knew it would be, two really talented sides.

Also, the commentary on BBC is MILES ahead of the stuff that'll be on RTE. Whoever that commentator is he's much better than any of the RTE lads, and in Peter Canavan there is a real great alongside him, which RTE don't have a single one of since O'Rourke stopped going to the matches and stays in the studio.
