It would make sense & be an extra incentive to win the competition.

Will the winner of Kerry & Wicklow be joining the provincial & McCarthy championships next year?

the standard of hurling in this competition is a big insult to the great man from Cork!

I think the great man who appreciate that the sport is not dying and that counties are trying their best (albeit not at the standard of counties like great hurling counties like Tipp or KK or Cork ;)

If Kerry win, I don't they should enter. If they were to win, if they were to join the McCarthy qualifiers they've have an idea on the standard, the gap and as to whether they should join. The risk for the winner if they don't join though is that they can't be sure they'll win the Christy Ring next year.

Whoever wins the final should make sure they join the Liam McCarthy next year. After the shocking standard served up by my own county and Westmeath yesterday, Kerry or Wicklow would more than likely have bet either side yesterday.

Entering a prelim round as we have this year is a good place to start. Qualifiers are next up, but 1 of Laois, Carlow, Prob Westmeath, Antrim or Offaly will have to play more than likely Cork in qualifiers! That will be cruel on whoever gets that draw.

Ye had a bad result yesterday but overall ye have made fantastic progress. Keep your heads up and give the qualifiers a good go.

I know Sponger, we made great progress up to last year. But unfortunately its on the way down now already. We lost about 7 of our 1st team, and a co with only 6 senior clubs can't take that. Plus the hunger and drive we had last couple of years just seems to have gone this year. All around us yesterday commented that we played it as if it was a challenge match. Westmeath were far hungrier, 1st to everything. They are a very poor side, but we somehow managed to be worse, and it's very worrying.

The Premlinary rounds might be ok in Leinster but it would not be the case for Kerry in Munster. The league showed the gap between Kerry and Limerick/Clare.

ianog im just after commenting on how abysmal the quality is. Why then would I bother going to any of the matches? Think about it!

Theres a few players in Division 2 who would grace many top tier teams.

How would you know if you've never been to any of the games? I suppose you must be busy watching Galway win all them All Irelands....

I don't know how you can talk about the poor Christy Ring standard if you haven't been to any games. I know you are not watching the games on TV because they are not. Carlow vs. Westmeath got about 60 seconds coverage on the Sunday Game.... Down vs. Kerry was no spectacle, but you had two teams going at it for 70+ minutes - with a flashes of brilliance at times.

Good luck to both Kerry & Wicklow in the final.

Christy Ring would be proud of the small pockets in these counties flying the flag.

Winning the christy ring is more about progression than anything else. Kerry know they have no business in the munster championship yet but 2 ring finals in a row, sustained division 2 hurling as well as our recent success at underage level mean hurling is going in the right direction in this county. Kerry's main problem at the moment is throwing big leads away but hopefully we can put a good 70 mins together for the final.

Womenourlimits players like Leighton Glynn, Jonathan O'Neill, Andy O'Brien and Don Hyland in his prime would have done justice to ANY top hurling county. How dare you with your ignorance insult these players and many more from other counties who play Christy Ring Standard... Who are you anyway???

Very true all fantastic hurlers in there day still are leighton been a phenenomal talent in both codes i think if anyone has ever been to a christy ring cup match you would agree that these are played a very very good standrard with all the teams more than capable of beating each other on any day leading to a fantastic competition for all teams involved and to go one step further id even say that the carlow vs westmeath christy ring cup final in 2008 was one of the best games of hurling ever played or at least in the top 20 i no some people wont agree but for those who were there that day would have seen an exhibition of hurling by two outstanding teams

Wicklowman and Itscholar ye're both wrong. These players ye have mentioned are pathetic and would struggle to make a junior club team in Kilkenny. Also, to say the Westmeath Carlow match in 2008 was one of the best games ever is laughable. I couldnt believe the number of mistakes made in this game and the standard of defending was dreadfull. These two factors combined resulted in a high scoring game but the quality was shocking!

Lads, lads, leave "womenourlimits" to themselves, silly comments dont deserve or merit a response. We all know the quality thats in the Christy Ring. We also know be it the Rackard or Ring cups, counties have to strive to improve and hope for one day to be able to compete with the big boys, the day they stop believing will be the day the first nail is hammered in the coffin of the GAA
