Another red card for Derry

Final score Wicklow 3-16 Derry 2-11. Derry had 2 players sent off in the last few minutes. This had no impact on the game. The game was as good as over at half-time when the score was 3-11 to 1-1 to Wicklow. The wind was a massive factor in the game. So pencil Wicklow in for a semi-final slot.

Christy Ring Full Times: Derry 2-11 Wicklow 3-16, Mayo 2-10 Kildare 1-20, Kerry 1-20 Meath 1-17

Kerry and Wicklow are both semi-finalists and will NOT meet. Meath, Kildare, Derry and I'm presuming Down (beat Armagh!!) will go into the hat as quarter-finalists. Mayo and Armagh go out as I predicted. (Don't have the Down-Armagh result to hand.)

Down 1-19 Armagh 0-6. I don't know if the GAA are going to let Derry and Down meet again in the Christy Ring Quarter Finals. Meath and Derry are on one side of the draw. Down and Kildare are on the other. Presuming the GAA don't allow Derry and Down to meet again the Quarter Final pairings would be Meath v Down and Derry v Kildare. If that was to happen I'd predict a Kildare win against Derry and a very narrow victory for Down over Meath. That would leave Kerry, Wicklow, Down and Kildare in the semis - could be very interesting.

Well done to Kerry. Hat's off to Wicklow as well. They are following our line of success from last season.
I don't think Down and Derry can meet each other again before the final. Can anyone clarify that?
It's hard to call a favourite to win. From a Kerry point of view I'd see Down and Wicklow being our biggest threats.

It may not look it, but my own meath have improved massively since last year, losing by three points to kerry is quite the achievement considering kerry beat them 3-30 to 3-10 last year, with meath scoring those goals at the end making the score look marginally better. They won the kehoe cup earlier this year but then collapsed horrifically for the first three rounds of the league. They are very unlikely to win the CR, but Meath are more of a threat than most think.

I was at that final in Arklow, Meath did play well.

Very impressed with the progress of Leinster teams in recent years. Carlow & Westmeath have both triumped in the Ring and Wicklow are flying and now probably my tip for this years competition. Meath & Kildare are not bad either. Down didn't look mighty impressive against Armagh today at all - so the outlook for us it not too hot. The Kingdom are coasting along nicely taking care of business. It's hard to look past a Kerry vs. Wicklow final.

Wicklow - enjoy the little wins that your getting in the CR because when you come to Ennis for the league next year you better be ready - We don't go easy on CR teams in the League.

CR is a great competition. Delighted to see our neighbours in the Garden County get to the semis and agree that it has all the appearances of being a Kerry/Wicklow final but a lot to play for yet.

CoraFinne87,

Why make comments like this -

A lot of good games this weekend in the CRC. Wicklow are a very good side but will be fully tested by Derry. Home field advantage should pull them over the line, but expect another close encounter. Kerry must see themselves as favorites to win the Ring this year - should take care of Meath at home handy enough.

Down will be relieved to have drawn Armagh so that they can regroup. A trip to Castlebar or Newbridge would have been tough after the crushing defeat to Derry at home last weekend. Down to win easy enough. As Wicklow realised last weekend Mayo are no push over at home, Also Kerry found that Kildare are no push over either. With the game in McHale, Mayo by a point or so. A lot of parity it the league this year which is great for the competition

If you are going to follow them up with childish comments like this

''Wicklow - enjoy the little wins that your getting in the CR because when you come to Ennis for the league next year you better be ready - We don't go easy on CR teams in the League.''

Look it's not our fault Clare didn't win last night and are stuck in Division 2 - yes with Wicklow - because we EARNED our promotion and deserve to be in Division 2. Why single Wicklow out?? Is that what everyone in Ennis was saying coming out of Cusack Park last night?? Imagine having to play the likes of Wicklow. Well suck it up. Yes you will trounce us we know that - but we have a right to be there. 2 wins in Division 2 and we'll stay there

The Christy Ring is very interesting this year. I thought with the likes of Carlow & Westmeath advancing to the higher tier that the CR would be a lot weaker this year, but Wicklow & Meath etc.. have really stepped up to the plate and fair play to them.

Yesterday's game between Wicklow vs. Derry & Kerry vs. Meath should have been played in Portalaois or Tullamore. All four teams played on the road in the first round, so it was unfair to ask Derry & Meath to go on the road again and vice versas with Wicklow & Kerry going to Derry or Meath. What reward did Derry & Meath get for winning on the road in round one? Also, Down vs. Armagh should have been played at Casement not Ballycran.

At this stage it's hard to look past a Wicklow/Kerry final. If Down can get past the quater final and get thier injuries cleared up they may have a shot, but yesterday's performance against Armagh was very Lethargic. A performance like that wouldn't stand a chance in Augrim or Tralee.

There is a huge gulf in class between division two and divsion one. I would say that its very likely the same teams will come up and go down between both divisions for a good few years to come.

Of course Wicklow have no chance against Clare, but we will put it up to a few teams in the division, and we have the players to do so.

Meath vs Down and Kildare vs Derry is the draw.

I'd say Hinphey was a big loss to Derry (as was Higgins undoubtedly for Mayo). Will he be back for the Kildare match?

I think Down punched above their weight for a long time but only having 3 senior clubs feeding into the county panel means they surely lack strength in depth.
