Can anyone better Brian Cody's 13 years as manager of Kilkenny? I know Mick O' could with different counties but trying to figure out is there anyone who has had the longevity of the giant from the Village. And who has the longest ever record in GAA history? There must be some lads from the old days who had a stretch longer than Brian. Puddersthecat (Kilkenny) - Posts: 1692 - 27/01/2011 14:15:21 854914 Link 0 |
Sean Boylan 23 years from 1982 to 2005, there's longevity for you along with 4 All Irelands, 8 Leinster titles, 3 National Leagues, Centenary Cup and a place in some of the most memorable matches in GAA history. I love Cody by the way and his record is immense and will grow further before he decides to stand down in my opinion, there a few more trophies left in that man. Although he wasnt manager of the senior team until 2003 mickey harte has been in charge of tyrone teams since the minors in 91 until 98, the the u21s from 98 until 02( i stand corrected) and now the seniors since 2003 until present, long may he continue. As with Mickey Harte, Art McRory started with Tyrone Minors in the early seventies before moving onto the senior team for eight years 1979-87. Then he came back again for a further four years 1992-96 and finally took up the reigns for the third time for a further three years 1999-2002. Tyrone owe much to this great man. I think the craziest thing about that is that Kilkenny have only played 54 chamionship matches in 13 years. That's mad considering the successs they've had. doublehop (Kildare) - Posts: 4172 - 27/01/2011 20:34:39 855350 Link 0 |
Jim Barry from Cork, about 78 years as manager, or so it seemed. patrique (Antrim) - Posts: 13709 - 27/01/2011 21:10:26 855408 Link 0 |

Surely Cody has been there for more than 13 years. I think he took over in 1999. I won't pretend to have all the stats but I'm sure he must have had more than 48 championship matches. I do know he had more than one drawn championship game. Offhand I can think of three - against Galway (2012), Dublin (2013) and Tipperary (2014) - and there may be more. I'm also sure that he lost more than five championship games. Tipp had three wins (2010, 2016 and 2019 finals), Galway had at least two wins (maybe more) while he has also tasted championship defeats against Dublin, Wexford, Waterford (twice), Limerick and Cork. That makes at least eleven defeats. Nevertheless, his record since 1999 has been amazing.

21 years? Took over in 98 i think? Getting closer to Boylans now and a much better record on terms of trophies. Two great managers. daytona11 (Kildare) - Posts: 4012 - 01/12/2020 21:04:46 2317465 Link 0 |
