Dell there are over 48 Senior Rugby clubs in Ireland. There are 32 Counties in Ireland and 2 outside of Ireland. paddyogall (Mayo) - Posts: 5110 - 20/01/2011 18:54:18 850536 Link 0 |
If rugby is so much bigger than every other sport in ireland why do certain posters feel the need to highlight it, and point it out to the rest of us? I think the GAA speaks for itself as the heart of every Irish community yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11540 - 20/01/2011 19:05:55 850545 Link 0 |

The fact is more people watch Celtic than watch Mangners League, and more people watch Celtic than watch a load of posh fellas rolling around in the mud. HorseOutside (UK) - Posts: 398 - 20/01/2011 19:54:53 850599 Link 0 |

The only good thing about rugby games in Dublin involving ireland is that men from north and south stad proud under the tricolour and belt out our national anthem, even if they are yuppies. CheFinny (UK) - Posts: 1358 - 20/01/2011 20:47:12 850676 Link 0 |

Close this thread please, what a sad bunch. If either side were putting forward a constructive argument I wouldn't mind but absolute tosh from a number of people. And anyone who wants their country to get hammered in any sport doesn't deserve an opinion. jonny1951 (Mayo) - Posts: 1431 - 21/01/2011 09:17:08 850811 Link 0 |
I like watching rugby and seeing Ireland do well but to suggest that it's "the heartbeat of the nation" is over-stepping the mark. Despite it becoming more mainstream and popular in the last decade or more it's still an exclusive sport in certain parts of the country. I know it's a territorial/tactical game at times but I still cant get my head around the applause players get for punting the ball downfield and into touch. Ah well - maybe that's just me, I've never actually bothered to make the effort to fully understand the rules and tactics. I hope we do well in the World Cup though - any bit of success by our sportsmen and women is welcome in these depressing times. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9734 - 21/01/2011 11:29:09 850909 Link 0 |

brendtheredhand- you hit the nail on the head, the people dissing rugby are suffering from a class inferiority problem which is something they must come to terms with, if you hate someone simply because of their accent, postcode or the fact that they had a private education it genuinely is a sad reflection of someones mental health. I beleiev the problem is that these people dont look down on you the problem is you hate looking up at them and that is a problem you will have to deal with as it is simply blind hatred and there is enough of that on this island over trivial item such as religion liathroidboy (Mayo) - Posts: 4921 - 21/01/2011 11:58:44 850940 Link 0 |
