artisan. at it again , cannot form your own opinions on different subjects on different times , show the lack of tact , and being led blind by a so called republican party , that would be a start , anytime young man , feel free to add of the times and tribulations of dan breen , and men like liam mellows . thats the subject ?
If Dan were alive now he could be flying planes into buildings in the cause of freedom.
And would we still hail him as a freedom fighter or call him terrorist and hope the USA and Britain hunted him down and shot him like a dog?

Flying planes into buildings ? No.
However I think it would be safe to assume he would almost definitely be supporting the brave Afghan rebels fighting imperialist forces in their own homeland.
HTAEM. only joking dan breen was a member of the I.R.B, then joined the irish volunteers in 1914 , later on after the easter rising and the elections of 1919 , he joined a group of men lead by sean treacy and notably the first shots of the war of indapendence were fired at soloheadbheg in county tipperary which resulted in two R.I.C members being killed , he then joined in several ambushes and attacks within the tipperary brigade which eventually leading a 10,00 pound bounty on his head , he was also very vocal against the treaty and joined ant-treaty forces in his response of the treaty that pursued , he eventually became member of the dail as a T.D in 1927 ,.
Oh right cheers for that ta32, think I'll stay out of this debate though incase I make a fool of myself!
Dan Breen was a real patriot, a man who fought for Ireland. If only we had his like today...it's sad but our country is falling apart because we've fallen away from our heritage. Just reading the Rangers fans on here attacking Celtic...is this wot Dan Breen died for?
Oh great, that Celtic guy is back. What was his name the last time? Lisbon Lions or something? He was on the forum last spring or summer, then disappeared.
I wouls say the 1918 election was a mandate for war. consider the following: Yes, SF only won 47% of the vote, that's still a pretty big margin and certainly a majority when one considers that the next biggest party, the irish unionists, got 25% The parliamentarians came in a lame third at 6% which was an obvious statement by the electorate that home rule was no longer enough. Now consider it in terms of seats. SF won a whopping 70% of the seats available. Unionists got 21% Home rulers were again left in their wake.
I would say that this was a clear endorsement by the people of SF's policies, their most important one being the establishment of a republic by whatever means necessary. I would say that because democracy was ignored and forcibly denied by the occupying powers, SF were not only right to but had a duty to achieve a republic by force. Similarly the GFA has given a democratic mandate to achieve a united ireland, this time by constitutional and democratic means.
