If Bertie Aherne said that then i would take it with a pinch of salt !! And for the record i do not wear celtic jersays or own one or support them ... So get your proof before typing ok .

I believe that the facts came from the mole that MI5 have in the leadership of Sinn Fein/IRA. It is in the cables that the guardian published. It was not pursued at the time due to the delicate stage that the peace process was at.

So even if you are right Paddy it was believed by those in authority that the greater good should prevail.Smart decision indeed.

If only we could devise a political system whereby people who own properties etc have more than one vote, wrecking my head here to think of an historical precedent where this has happened .................!

Again, I'm surprised at you. There is no evidence, I repeat no evidence that this is or was the case. If there was evidence of this then surely the PSNI, who had a wonderful conviction rate of northern Catholics for 30 odd years could have at least convicted somebody!! It doesn't matter if they are guilty or not as internment and the advent of DIPLOCK courts proved. I heard on the grapevine that the GPA had misappropriated funds. Now, I have no evidence to prove that, nor has the person who told me, but they swore blind that it was true and could prove it. Needless to say this was a sycophantic rant by someone who despised the GPA, and I am intelligent enough to KNOW this. Bertie Ahern did not like Sinn Fein and made no secret of that fact, however lets bear in mind that it was their actions that helped put Bertie in the previously esteemed position he was in before his financial greed was identified. As far as I am aware, in any democratic society you are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a group of your peers (unless the state can't afford the truth to come out). As far as I am aware, Mssrs Adams and McGuinness have never even been asked by police about any knowledge they may or may not have of this incident. Indeed the police have retracted their assumption that it was indeed carried out by the PIRA as they have no bloody evidence, yet the gombeen idiots who voted in a group of bent, corrupt and greedy set of actual crooks not once, not twice, but 3 times are well and able to come on here and spout what can only be considered as libelous rubbish about two men without the slightest shred of evidence. Indeed by God, I've read such contemptuous rubbish on these boards over the past number of weeks and months in relation to Sinn Fein, that I do sometimes wonder why we would even want to unite with the Southern half of this country. The place has been ripped off right under the peoples eyes, a gangland scene not out of place in the 1920's in Boston or Chicago and a sense of victimhood that you claim the Northerners have that would put you to shame.
