What's great about Britain

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

No I do not take offence when someone tells me the occupied six are part of the UK. It is an undeniable fact that the six counties remain a colony of Britain. What is not a fact is that the six counties are part of Britain so I will go to some lengths to enlighten those ignorant posters that think otherwise.

The people of the 6 counties should tell both the uk and Ireland to head off and join the Caribbean!

Many southerners have had their head up their archies the past 15 years and have forgotten their Irish identity and culture; sure the 26 may as well be a satellite of Blighty with it's Fleet St. red tops, English football tops and TV programmes. Now it looks like a UK financial deal with confirm this. Pathetic!

Parcel of Rogues - You're on the ball there Pat.

" Cos we're bought and we're sold,
for English gold.
Such a parcel of rogues,
In a nay-hay-shun"

I remember Luke Kelly singing it years ago. How apt it turned out to be.

You know what's really sad, you lot on here have 3 times the amount of posts on this thread in comparison to What is great about Ireland. I know Ireland is not in great shape at present. But may be if you all stuck together and worked to try and get yourselves out of the mess you are in, you might just get yourselves back on your feet. Never mind Britain lads, when i go back in the Easter i want a country to go back to so SORT IT OUT............

Thats that rant over:)

Goodfella you mightn't think of yourself as British but we are of course

Thanks for enlightening me Pomeroy Plunkett, if you said it it must be correct. I forgot how you as an 'alleged' final year college student are all wise and can dictate to me what Nationality I am.

Manc to be fair it is a well written, thought provoking thread that people are instantly drawn to. Goodfella if you were born in Tyrone you're British, I don't need a degree to tell you that

"I know Tyrone wear white but it should really be black"

Actually you are correct. The only reason Tyrone chose White and red was because Derry wore Red and white for there first Ulster championship game in 1904 . They thought that they would be the opposite and chose White and red. They should really have chosen Black and Red but there you go.

Do Tyrone still have a team?

It certainly fits Ireland as well but the song is about Scotland.

Written by Searlas óg about Bonnie Prince Charlie. This one I used to think was Irish until I met a "Geordie" lad singing it in a folk club in Manchester.

The "new" version by one P.Pearse would refer to Ireland.

I think most people thought it was an Irish song Patrique due to the fact that it was 'as gaelige' , people tend to forget our fellow gaels across the water in Scotland share a common gaelic heritage with us.

Ps - Interesting you heard it sung in a folk club in Manchester as the city used to be quite a Jacobite stronghold back in the day!

Another well reasoned argument there lad, you'll be a great addition to the dole queue whenever you finish in school. Can you understand basic concepts such as the fact that people born in northern 'IRELAND' are in fact Irish? Likewise thay can also be British if they choose.

Other posters have rightly stated you do tend to say things just to provoke a reaction. You are either a sad individual who enjoys antagonising people an an anonymous web forum or are perhaps an imposter as other people believe.

At least you recognise the fact you're from N.I., it seems however you are unaware that this is part of the UK and so you are a British subject. We're Irish as well of course, the best of both :). Sadly I've got a graduate job already so it looks like like you'll be signing on to the British dole yourself mo chara

It's exactly what you wanted Pomeroy, it's the reason you are on these threads. You are doing your job well granted because there are still those who believe you are genuine.
