You must be creaming it galling that your mother country has come to your rescue.

Thanks for coming to our rescue. ta32 I already made a post on here one of the first actually. I promise to stop posting here if you manage to spell opinion correctly though. Imagine in the space of a few hours this thread is already more popular then the Irish version. Some people really are obsessed.

Of course it is in Britain's self interest tomato but the old excuse that you and your buddies use that 'you in the 6 counties are ALL Brits' and 'we in the 26 are the only Irish' has tonight been completely blasted out of the water. Tonight my friend and quite shamefully Ireland is the EU's bitch and Britain's cell mate being pounded mercilessly. It's not pleasant is it? Guess you might NOW have some experience of how Northern Nationalists have felt since partition.

This thread was about whats great about britain, so maybe the ultra-nationalists could start a separate thread about what they hate about britain...grrrrr

Back on thread - as others mentioned music, Isaac Newton, Brunel, Shakespeare, James Connolly, legal system, Darwin. they have given so much to the world along with the likes of the French, its remarkable.

Pomeroy plunket If you wish to start a thread re the Greatness of the UK feel free. However I can tell you that When a body has been attacked by a cancer and it is destroying that body from the inside out It would be very difficult for the owner of that body to describe the cancer as being great in a benign fashion. The owner of that body would describe it as a great malignancy. So from a Derry point of view I would describe the act of union as a great malignancy which since 1803 generation upon Generation of Irishmen have attempted to remove surgically. A great part of that malignancy has been removed surgically and we have now entered ino the stage of the treatment that is medical. Now like all cancers this will take some time and careful monitoring, and please God surgical intervention will not be required again.
However I am delighted to have been able to assist you in your education

Please clarify PP, are you referring to Great Britain or the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland where you and I reside? You may be getting the two slightly confused.

The GAA is for the most part a nationalist/republican organisation, alot of the HS users would be rightly proud to consider themselves as such. While there are indeed many great things about Britain, to come on here and start this thread was just an attempt to start another pointless thread of argument and counter argument. To call Derry part of Britain during the debate which ensued simply stirs emotions and tries to rise people, it is in fact wrong both politically and historically to call An Doire part of Britain. As I said, there are many ways to incite hatred. The people who criticise military activity can be as guilty of this as those who advocate it.

Someone else pointed out their contribution to literature, language, music and film. Greater than any other nation bar perhaps the US in terms of contemporary music.

Glad you can acknowledge British people are in general a very friendly bunch, which we are of course. No doubt in my mind Britain has produced the greatest music of all time

Pomeroy out of interest, do you consider yourself Irish, British or both?

No I dont think so anyway... she's British, a London girl and her bottom deserves to be mentioned on this thread... it truly is remarkable. Have you ever seen that Lynx add with all the girls on the beach... think of the blonde in the middle wearing the black pants... and you'd be nearly there!
