Great Britain (commonly known as Britain) is an island[6] situated to the northwest of Continental Europe. It is the ninth largest island in the world, and the largest European island. With a population of about 60.0 million people in mid-2009,[4][7] it is the third most populated island on Earth. Great Britain is surrounded by over 1,000[8] smaller islands and islets. The island of Ireland lies to its west. derryman (Derry) - Posts: 3246 - 21/11/2010 20:52:00 820351 Link 0 |

Ulsterman's beliefs don't go so deep that he won't pick up the Queen's shilling, sums him up. Can't take that man seriously at all. Dell as a United fan are they not something British you like? Or are United, like Celtic, not actually British? Derryman apologies, it is of course the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of which Derry is a county. So what in Derry do you feels add to the greatness of the UK? pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 21/11/2010 21:07:18 820372 Link 0 |

I'm glad this hasn't descended into an anti british thread as the person who started it hoped for. Obviously there are so many ways to promote and bring up hate which prima facie seems to be neutral but in reality is trying to annoy people who are understandably sensitive. hurlinspuds (Cork) - Posts: 1494 - 21/11/2010 21:16:01 820378 Link 0 |
While I'm afraid poor old Britain is nowhere near as 'great' as it used to be, in fairness they are nothing like the neanderthals that half of this country would like us to believe. I know a lot of people would hate to admit this, but we have far more in common with our near neighbours than we have with any other country in the world, and I have always found British people very friendly and pro Irish. In relation to the original question, for a country of its size the UK is the undisputed world leader in music, bands etc. Most one of the greatest bands in the world have been British, you only have to look at The Beatles, the Stones, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd,The Who, David Bowie,The Kinks,The Clash, Queen the list is endless, while our near neighbours may not be the world leaders that they once were in industry, they are master musicians. gilly0512 (Galway) - Posts: 1176 - 21/11/2010 21:25:56 820382 Link 0 |

Ta Derry is a county in Northern Ireland so of course is part of the UK, it's also a county in Ireland of course. Sadly HurlinSpuds it seems what I had started as an innocent thread has been hijacked by the bar-stoolers already, spouting their usual rhetoric. It's the last thing I wanted, I thought it could be a place where we could discuss British music, literature etc. pplocal (Tyrone) - Posts: 5878 - 21/11/2010 21:38:48 820395 Link 0 |

It's exactly what you wanted Pomeroy, it's the reason you are on these threads. You are doing your job well granted because there are still those who believe you are genuine. Ulsterman (Antrim) - Posts: 9816 - 21/11/2010 21:41:45 820399 Link 0 |
