I am entitled to work in my own land and NO ONE will force me from it. A foreign country occupies the North but that doesn't mean I support them. They are here illegally NOT me. Micheal Collins worked in London for the Post Office for years before he came back to Ireland. Roger Casement worked in the British Diplomatic Service for decades and was knighted for his work. I could go on but would just make you sound more ridiculous than you already do.

Great Britain (commonly known as Britain) is an island[6] situated to the northwest of Continental Europe. It is the ninth largest island in the world, and the largest European island. With a population of about 60.0 million people in mid-2009,[4][7] it is the third most populated island on Earth. Great Britain is surrounded by over 1,000[8] smaller islands and islets. The island of Ireland lies to its west.

Especially for you Pomeroy the definition of great britain as given in wikipedia. I hope this enhances your education.
However there are many great things about Great britain. The Magna Carta, Their litery giants Shakespeare, Hardy Dickens etc. Their great explorers Drake, Cook, Frobisher etc. Their great scientists Newton Jenner etc, Their great engineers Watt Macadam etc. The lists are endless and I as a priviliged recipient of these things am greatful to great britain for them. I will not join Ulsterman in his equally correct summary of other less great things they have brought to this world.

Ulsterman's beliefs don't go so deep that he won't pick up the Queen's shilling, sums him up. Can't take that man seriously at all. Dell as a United fan are they not something British you like? Or are United, like Celtic, not actually British? Derryman apologies, it is of course the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, of which Derry is a county. So what in Derry do you feels add to the greatness of the UK?

Well for the sake of argument lets take it that its all the truth
I don't receive any money from this "evil Regime" so can rest easy
Its supporters are not the "ignore their brethern" people in the Republic its the people that take the Queens Shilling every week that supports it

I'm glad this hasn't descended into an anti british thread as the person who started it hoped for. Obviously there are so many ways to promote and bring up hate which prima facie seems to be neutral but in reality is trying to annoy people who are understandably sensitive.

I love alot of things about british people. They are genuinely warm to irish people and have contributed enormously to so many areas. They are generous, have a great sense of humour and are a clever bunch. Their island is beautiful especially scotland, the lake district and north wales. I'm also glad that despite the people who try to incite hatred, a resolution will come to the north of this island which has proved to be so decisive in the past.

I'm now glad that they inhabit the island next to me. It's a shame that they let themselves down for so long on the island of ireland and elsewhere in the world and continue to do so in iraq and other places

While I'm afraid poor old Britain is nowhere near as 'great' as it used to be, in fairness they are nothing like the neanderthals that half of this country would like us to believe. I know a lot of people would hate to admit this, but we have far more in common with our near neighbours than we have with any other country in the world, and I have always found British people very friendly and pro Irish. In relation to the original question, for a country of its size the UK is the undisputed world leader in music, bands etc. Most one of the greatest bands in the world have been British, you only have to look at The Beatles, the Stones, Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd,The Who, David Bowie,The Kinks,The Clash, Queen the list is endless, while our near neighbours may not be the world leaders that they once were in industry, they are master musicians.

i feel that both your posts are very sad and very narrowminded , i personally have always tried to be constructive in many posts in a honest debate , i have pointed out things that were good about england i was not bitter , but when someone attacks their policies which were in fact true , both of you come back with petty and arrogant posts that really do not warrant a reply , like the queeens shilling , so people are employed by a currencey of which is not their own , they aren not entitled to a voice our a reasoned ipinion , which of ulstermans was spot on , and pomeroy you seem honestly educated but remarks of the nature of calling derry part of the u.k is actually insulting and petty , derry is a county within the island of ireland and they are 31 other ones , so for gods sake grow up both of you . and stop looking for a reaction for the sake of it .

You don't receive ANY money from Britain? I think you better revise that, it's just been announced that Britain is contributing SEVEN BILLION pounds towards Ireland's bail out. Good man, I hope, if you are employed, that you will stick to your resolute principles and refuse your next wage and the ones after that because old Blighty will probably have funded it. Makes a mockery of partition does it not?

Ta Derry is a county in Northern Ireland so of course is part of the UK, it's also a county in Ireland of course. Sadly HurlinSpuds it seems what I had started as an innocent thread has been hijacked by the bar-stoolers already, spouting their usual rhetoric. It's the last thing I wanted, I thought it could be a place where we could discuss British music, literature etc.
