807069 only hurling - we're never going to have county finals back in Kenny Park! And for good reason. Nothing wrong with Salthill yesterday, great pitch, no wind, big crowd accomodated with no problem, unlike in Athenry! And it was easy to drive away, didn't get caught in traffic. Its where 1 out of every 3 people in Galway live, its the best stadium, why on earth would they go back to Kenny Park?
On another note, game yesterday wasn't up to much, ref blew everything up, and I think Loughrea will have too much in the replay. Although Alan Kerins can hardly be as poor in front of goal again (one glorious pass for a goal aside)
You are probably right that county finals won't go back to Kenny Park but that is due to politics. Apart from that, your post is total rubbish. Kenny Park accomodated a bigger crowd at the semi finals no problem and much better atmosphere when a ground is full. With the new motorway it is the easiest ground in the county to get to. With the possible exception of Mellows and Cashel (and even there I'm not sure) there is not a single senior hurling area that it is easier to get to pearse stadium from. 1 out ever 3 people in galway live in galway city but I guarentee you that less than 1 out of ever 100 hurling supporters would prefer going to pearse stadium. Wind, don't get me started, it's the windiest ground in Ireland and the fact that there was no wind there yesterday is a very rare exception. WRT the match, Calrinbridge should have won easily but sat back rather than driving on for last 20 minutes and must regret missing 2 glorious goal chances. Winner next day will be decided by the weather, good day, clarinbdidge win, cold windy day, loughrea win.
WRT the overall competition, watched Tipp final last night and have to say Thurles looked good.

"Got Raharney at 6-1 in the bookies. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you."
Sweet! Of course Raharney have been hammering top Offaly opposition at underage level for a few years now so expect this trend to continue. Some would have said they should be competing in the Intermediate championship instead like the Carlow champs do. Oulart will be another step up though. I'd say Davy Fitz will be back in Joristown for another session or two!

Must be easier to win inter county titles than club titles.
Thurles have NEVER EVER EVER won MUNSTER with all that talent.
And unlike inter county, to win the all Ireland clun you need to win Munster first.
Mind you, Antrim can hardly boast. We have only had 4 different clubs in the final, with a 5th coming very close.
I hear the Loughiel manager is trying to find out any knowledge on Thurles because there is not a lot to go on.
This new lad, Lar Corbett, is this his first year?

Come on will ya give the man credit.... I've had this debate with you before and not just on this forum!!! Lar corbett in the last few years has proved himself he was a bit inconsistant early in his career but has been one of tipp's most consistant player in the last few years..... he given top class accounts of himself in the last 2 all-ireland finals.... give the man the credit he deserves.

I was only using Killmallock as an example of an underdg that might come through. I think Sars will beat Killmallock. Not by 15 points though. On paper Thurles should have the best team in the country (Cahill, Maher, Corbett for starters, I'm not a big Pa Bourke fan but he's useful). However for all their talent they just don't seem to click. They were a wee bit fortunate to beat Toome and I thought the final was a poor game. Also they let slip a winning position at home to Newtownshandrum last year. If they get the blend right they could go far and I hope they do, but I think De La Salle will win Munster.

Fair play to Raharney yesterday, knew they would give a good account but didnt think theyd beat coolderry, well done, Its concievable to think their probably not the best team in Westmeath, Clonkill have prob better individual players but u cant beat heart and Raharney have that in huge amounts, You never know may give my Favourites for all-ireland oulart of wexford a right game of it now, lets hope so for the sake of hurling

The carlow champions wil compete in club senior this year as they senior in intercounty christy ring county clubs not allowed enter senior club championship rule only came in bout 2 years ago bit of a pity as clubs should be allowed decide if they want to compete in senior i recall mount leinster rangers ran ballyhale shamrocks close in leinster club senior bout 2 or 3 years ago ran them to couple ofpoints was toughest game ballyhale had on way to all ireland

Hang on. Westmeath played Christy Ring hurling this year (& won it) while Carlow played in the Leinster championship. Surely, according to what you're saying, Raharney should have to play Leinster Intermediate while the Carlow champs (St. Mullins, I think) would have to play senior???

keeper, I think the reason the Westmeath champions are in the senior grade is because Clonkill won the Intermediate? Not 100% on that but it would make sense.

The stadium is far better than Kenny Park, I think we'll all agree. If the wind and the location are your issue, I have played there many many times without a problem, as indeed I have when there has been a strong wind. I agree, sometimes it can be bad (I remember the first championship game there, against Roscommon, was crazy) However, it is not so bad that it is constant. It didn't affect one of the league games this year.
As for the location, its just a typical east Galway is where the hurling is post. If you are from Barna, which now has a huge hurling club, climbing through the ranks, from Clifden, from North Galway, etc, Pearse stadium is better. It can be a b*t*h to get out of, but people make too much of a big deal of it. I've had far worse times getting out of Thurles and Pairc Uí Chaoimh in the past. 1 in 100 is a bit rich, I know people have problems with it, particularly our Mayo friends, as its on the wrong side of the city for them, but everyone I know in Galway city thinks its great, whether they're from Killimordaly, Ballinderreen or Gort!
Don't get me wrong, Salthill is far from perfect, and I have done things differently, and I see your point. But its our county ground. Its the best ground in the county by a mile, and the best pitch, and its in the centre of population for the county. Its the place to have the big games, and not for politics, because its the better alternative.
Agree with you completely about the replay, although I think a lot will come down to the Kerin's. Ar aon nós a chara, Gaillimh Abú!

Hurlingdub your right westmeath clubs are playin in senior champ as Clonkill won All ireland intermediate about 4 years ago when they beat Tommy Larkins of Galway. Still have to say any club if thay want should be let play in senior championship.

Abhainn agree with most of your recent post. Stadium much better facilities than kenny Park agreed, not even a possible arguement. Athmosphere is much better in KP however.
I was retired long before Stadium was redeveloped so can't comment on it 1st hand but have seen too many matches ruined with wind there. I don't mind this so much in the winter but when it happens in the middle of summer as well!!
Location: are we serious about having leinster teams travel to play away games in Galway. If for example Dublin were to play Galway the leinster championship in perase stadium in the middle of summer, with 25-30,000 people there it would take a Dublin supporter 1.45 hours to get from dublin to the east side of the city (200km) and then another 1.45 hours to get to the Stadium (5-7km). We are not goin to build another county ground in galway so some solutions for intercounty matches need to be put in place, like a free park and ride from the racecourse. Gaillimh Abú! P.S. I didn't know Killimordaly, Ballinderreen and Gort were now part of Galway city????

I know that.
I was simply wondering that as Thurles Sarsfields have Lar and 20 other super duper players, how come they have never won the last ten club titles?
They haven't even won that many Tipp titles.

Ha! Agreed! As for Killimordaly etc, I meant I know lots of people from those type of hurling mad areas that are living in the city.
I agree with you about the park and ride etc., but do think that the problems are the same at a number of county grounds, but for some reason P Stadium comes in for a particular bashing - and I think its because to a large degree it took football out of Tuam and hurling out of Athenry/Ballinasloe.
Anyway, like I say, agree with you!
