In the aftermath of Manus Boyle appearing in the Donegal county final for Killybegs at the age of forty-four, what other great club stories do people know? The sort of stuff that doesn't always make the major headlines.

Another one of Donegal's 1992 panel Martin Shovlin will be lining out for Naomh Ultan in the Junior B final aged 50. At midfield too!

PLayed a Junior game recently in the south of westmeath, there was a father and son playing against us, the dad played at centre forward and the son at full forward. the dad ran the show, they gave us a right hammering. i heard after that the dad was 47, i went over to him in the carpark after the game to chat with him and he was smoking a fag!! Some going!

The ages of four lads on the Drumaness team that won the Down JFC title last Sunday is over 120, including the 42-year-old Man of the Match. They're actually on this short video clip saying you would need a calculator to add their ages up... link - you might also like the Belfast JFC winning manager on the same clip disputing a newspaper report that he is 58!

Cheers Ollie.

Speaking of club stories, was in the local few years ago talking GAA with a few heads and this question was put to me. A player once scored two points in a row during a club game without any other player on the field touching the ball. How did it happen? Some of you may have heard this one before but see who can come up with the answer.

I havent heard this before but I would hazard a guess that a midfielder kicked a point with the last kick of the first half. Collected the ball from the throw in at the start of the second half, ran the length of the pitch and stuck it over the bar.

in the Leitrim Senior county final last year, Brian Doyle was introduced as a sub at the sprightly age of 46, he scored a goal that looked to have won the game for his club Carrigallen only for Glencar/Manorhamilton to deny them with a late flurry of points.

There was a guy in our club who just couldn't accept that he was past it. He kept going to physios about stiffness in his back and legs and feelings of tiredness. In his last year he went to get a second opinion from a high profile physio in Dublinl. His ailment was that he had 'shlowed up a terror' and wanted to know what he should be doing to get some speed back. The Physio asked him to sit down and said '***** you're 48, maybe you should consider leaving it to the young lads'? The boy was absolutely disgusted and apparently stormed out out of the practice. He was at a wedding the weekend after and there was actual tears in his eyes when he was telling us all about the aul fashioned B**&% of a physio above in Dublin and what he had to say. There was lads sniggering into pints, beer coming out of noses and lads walking away in tears laughing. Great times.

We played Naas in a challenge match a few years ago and Johnny McDonald (former Kildare player from the 90's) came on as a sub. The first ball went out to him he makes an almighty leap to catch it, turns inside his marker upon landing, goes by two other lads and puts the ball straight over the bar. Then without blinking an eye he turned around to the bench and said "Nah lads, it still doesn't feel right" and went back off with the fella he subbed coming back on. Gas...

Anfearbeag - well done!

I was told it was done by Jack O'Shea playing for St. Marys against Valentia Island. How true or not I dont know but logical enough to explain.

Not sure where it was, think it might have been in Leitrim or somewhere, but 3 generations of one family (grandad, son and grandson) lined out on the one team in recent years.

Anyone know where that was?

Brendan Mc Gahon, Sean Mc Dermotts Louth lined out in the Louth JFC final last Sunday week at 43 years young.

Its said he has played adult football with one club for 28 years, since he was 15 years old.

Im told the next oldest player on the Mc Dermotts team last Sunday week was 28 (far from a gason) meaning he was born the year Brendan made his debut!

What a club servant, he lost the final incidentally, meaning hes never won a championship medal in such a long career.

Lost two IFC finals , a JFC final & a Leinster JFC final with Louth.

Stephen Melia was 44 by the way in 2006 & played with 3 clubs in his career. Incredible fella, played with Louth till he was 39 in 2001.

Interestingly, the year he won his SFC medal with Joes, his home club John Mitchells had a 25 year reunion for winning a league title in 1981.

He was on both teams, gives you an idea of the longevity of the guy.

Ive heard he played Junior B this year aged 49, fitness fanatic, a great bit of stuff.
